Revis on the Trade Block
They making mad moves
Quote:
Two sources tell Yahoo Sports the 49ers are "poised to make a run" at Darrelle Revis after stockpiling 15 picks in the 2013 draft.
The Niners only have 12 picks right now, but will get three more via the compensatory process. Per Yahoo's Jason Cole, the 49ers have considered pursuing Revis and not extending his contract, forcing Revis to play out 2013 at $6 million via bonuses and salary. Cole suggests Atlanta could make a Revis run, as well. If San Francisco acquired Revis, it'd likely surrender one of its two top-34 picks, or perhaps even both. Jets GM John Idzik should be on the phone with 49ers GM Trent Baalke. Idzik needs roster-building pieces, and Baalke has them.

Saw that coming. It's a calculated risk that can pay off. The 49ers need DBs. Revis is obviously a beast and could take them to the next level.
Just stay away from Cruz with all those picks and I'll be alright.

Revis will help but they're still going to need another pass rusher.

I think finding another pass rusher will be considerably easier than finding a Revis.

What is considered a good game offensively if they do acquire Revis?
Getting across midfield twice in a half?

If they go after Revis, do they have the cap to re-sign Goldson?

I don't know if it's a cap issue one way or the other. I think Baalke knows what he's willing to pay Goldson and if he wants more, he can walk.

Like the talent, dislike the possibility of this being a one year rental. He's going to want a giant contract. We have to pay Kaepernick, Aldon, iupati, Anthony Davis, and Crabtree, can we afford them all+revis? That's my worry.

Revis will make a half dozen other guys look like Goldson, i do this in a heartbeat if i'm the 9ers.

Great point. What is the max you give up as the 49ers for Revis?

Seeing as how the last two years they played in the NFCCG and the Super Bowl, i have no issue giving the Jets that late first plus a late 2nd or 3rd.

Would you do #31 and #34?

Could be great for both teams. Revis would put the Niners over the top and the Jets are in rebuilding mode, getting picks is what they need to be doing.

Probably, but i think the Jets could take something less than that #34 pick (obviously that's aside from the first rounder).

If the Jets are willing to trade him, the Niners are their best available partners, they can put together a nice package and also throw in rogers to help in the short term at corner.
If the 49ers can somehow keep Goldson and bring in Revis (at 6 million this year, its probably possible), they have the opportunity to be one of the best defenses ever. They are already an incredible group with their current squad, but bring in the best corner in the game and it just takes this D to a new level. The idea of Revis and Culliver starting at corner with is pretty scary. Whittner and Goldson can attack the line and play the middle all day, and the front 7 is the best in the league . and then Id honestly like to see them bring in a young DB with some deep speed as well. And on offense a guy who can work the slot and play deep, Tavon Austin would be an amazing addition if they can make a move for him.
But in the long term, I cant see how the 49ers are gonna keep all this talent around unless guys sign at discount rates. They have a lot of guys locked up long term, but still a lot that need extensions.

I don't see why they would give up Carlos Rogers in this deal, unless it was needed. There was a "fantasy trade" I read on Twitter, it was something like Revis for the #31, a 3rd, and next years SF 2nd and it seemed reasonable to those guys. I don't know if the Jets would do that, but that's not a terrible trade.
As for drafting someone, taking an Xavier Rhodes maybe? But if they trade for Revis I think they'd move elsewhere than CB, maybe BPA as far as a pass rusher? I don't know really, but it couldn't hurt to get to the QB even as good as the front 7 already is. Possibly if they let DG walk, take Elam from Florida, or a David Amerson? That 4.38 40 looked pretty nice along with his height.

Every team needs a little luck to win a Super Bowl. The 49ers could make their own luck by getting Revis. They could parlay their mediocre backup QB+ a few spare picks to get the best CB of the generation for a team that already has the most talented overall roster in the sport. Well played.

As a Jets fan it would be extremely hard to watch probably the most talented player in our franchise history leave in his prime. However, with all of the question marks surrounding this Revis situation and the Jets being in "rebuilding" mode this seems like the move to make for both teams. I think SF's 1st rounder and their late 2nd or 3rd rounder this year with a conditional pick next year would be pretty fair considering we're trading Revis at about 80 cents on the dollar.

Well, let's wait and see what they actually get for Alex Smith first. If I were the 49ers, even for a one-year rental, this could pay Deion-Sanders-to-the-Niners-esque dividends, so I'd be willing to pay a fairly hefty price. Considering what everyone else in the league can give, I'd be very shocked if they gave up #31 & #34 (if they do get it). That would seem like a lot (and something that, if I were the Jets, would jump on). I think a more reasonable (but likely still better offer than most would supply) trade would be Revis for their 1st, late 2nd, and 4th.
Sadly, from the Jets' perspective, I think there's a very good chance that if we kept Revis, he'll just end up walking after this season. As long as they're not getting shafted, I wouldn't let pride/media and fan criticism get in the way of shipping him out.

If this happens, the pressure is on Ted Thompson in Green Bay to bring back Jennings and/or make a splash elsewhere this offseason. Right? Green Bay would have to make considerable moves to compete with SF w/Revis.
I don't know SF's cap but why not, as mentioned, parlay Alex Smith into Revis?

I think that would partly rely on Justin Smith returning to form. He's 34 when the season starts. If he returns to form, yes it would be a great move. If not, it would still be a good move but you still have to wonder how you are getting to the QB. You saw the drop off after Smith tore his arm up.

They just better not give up there 31st and 34 pick that would be dumb as heck. We need a Pass rusher to start then a CB. Maybe a second next year I'd be ok with it. If they give up any picks this year its a 3rd I hope..
