The 34th overall draft pick for an average game manager QB eight years later is a steal and yes, im happy as thats a lot higher than I expected but all im saying is that im not all smiles until its official. When it becomes official, then I'll be a happy 49ers fan. Until then, im just taking all these rumors and speculation that seem to change every day for exactly what they are right now, rumors and speculation.

Wow. Just got home from a long day at work and heard the news. The Alex Smith era is officially over. Who would have thought we'd end up here when all was said and done? That's a heck of a haul to get back for him, though.
The future is bright.

I'm happy dont get me wrong, if this trade ends up being official but it makes no sense for KC. There wasn't a market for Alex so it wasn't like another team was driving up the price. And a 2nd and a conditional pick which sounds like a 3rd rounder for Alex? The same QB who drew virtually no intrest as a FA last year? It makes NO SENSE other than Andy Reid just really wanted Alex. And even if that was the case, it would have served them better just to wait and let us show our hand when it came time to Alex's salary deadline. This just seems waaaaaaay too good be true.
And hopefully, Josh Johnson is one of the first calls we make when free agency starts.

as far as QBs go, I wouldn't mind signing a vet in the FA for cheap. I also wanna draft a guy who has the tools to run the our offense(read option, pistol formations, etc)

If Aso is released from Philly I would bet he is the guy Baalke goes for. It would fit the MO of the Niner off-seasons under him. Let Sean Smith and DRC sign huge deals, and wait and sign ASO to a three year deal or something of that nature. He also would be a great fit for the defense.

I don't think we go after Revis. Such a big money pay day next year. We better stick to drafting players with as many picks as we got right now. Depth over big name players.

Depth over big name players for the deepest team in the NFL? Really? I bet the Niners actually use between seven to eight of their picks this year to draft somebody this year.

Most likely we will trade approx two of our picks to pick up extra picks next year (probably 1 of our 3's and 1 of our 4's for a 2014 2nd and 3rd respectively). Some of our other picks will be used to move up in certain rounds. I can't wait.
With our first 5 picks we need to draft:
CB
DL
WR
DL
S
Not necessarily in that order. Then, later, we need to draft:
OT
C
CB (again)
LB
QB
That's 10 picks

Well, the 49ers did try to go hard after Johnathan Joesph a couple of years back. They lost out on him to Houston though. I think they're just very careful about making their splashes.

Good riddance, Alex. I wish you all the worst in any future endeavors, and hope you fail miserably in Kansas City.
So long, team leach.
Enjoy the millions you stole from the Yorks.

So, in other words...draft 10-15 players and cut half of them before the season starts.

More like trading picks for future drafts as well as using picks to trade up in targeted rounds.

Yeah. Parlay into a top pick next season. Who knows. If Baalke finds the right trade partner this draft, the 49ers could come away with this guy in 2014...
FAPP!!!

Do you really want a rookie kicker in the Super Bowl next year? I vote veteran FA here...

Didn't turn out too bad for the Ravens. I want the best player. If that's a rookie, so be it. If its vet, that's coo as well. Only FA kicker likely to see the market and who is worth a damn is Nugent and Hanson. And both are gonna command a decent contract. Bironas will probably be tagged, Dawson is decent yet old. And not any kicker can kick effectively in Candlestick. I don't want to sign a vet just to say we have a vet kicker. Seems more cap savvy to go with a hand-picked rookie on a modest rookie deal and see if he can hack it. A rookie can't be any worst than Akers was last season.
