Some thoughts:

-Alex Smith seems like such a bad fit for Andy Reid's system.

-If Alex Smith is your savior, you might aw well have just hung on to Kyle Orton while he was around. Why not sign Matt Moore to a small 3 year contract if that's all you were after? At least his upside is higher.

-What's the move now? Joeckel? Milliner? Tyler Bray in the third as the long-term super-high-upside developmental guy? I liked it a lot more when it was Geno Smith + best CB available in the second.

-Now we've got this coming from Raiderland:
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...in-geno-smith/

-The guys who are going to be available at 34 make me salivate. I have a huge boner for that area this year.

-The Niners have roughly 900 draft picks in the next two drafts. This is how dynasties begin.

-So sorry, Vidae. So, so sorry.

All of those things very clearly are more than a single pick. If you can't see that then I'm not the one in fairytale land.
Yes, but I just share an optimism towards Smith that you do not, obviously. You also have a high hope for those two draft choices.

Here are the 2nd and 3rd round picks for the Chiefs over the last decade...

2008 and 2012 were tremendous...

Brandon Flowers
Jamaal Charles

Rodney Husdon
Justin Houston
Allen Bailey

But the others have made very little impact (aside from Pollard)

Eddie Freeman
Kawika Mitchell
Julian Battle
Junior Siavii
Kris Wilson
Keyaron Fox
Dustin Colquitt
Bernard Pollard
Brodie Croyle
Turk McBride
Tank Taylor
Alex Magee
Dexter McCluster
Javier Arenas
Jon Asamoah
Tony Moeaki

If Smith performs well, I think it can be a decent trade off for the Eddie Freeman/Brodie Croyle's of the world.

Of course you can look at it as sacrificing a Jamaal Charles and Justin Houston for a terrible QB.

I'm just more optimistic towards what Smith can do for the Chiefs.

We shall see.

Dustin Colquitt is one of the best punters in the league. Jon Asamoah is a future star at RG. Tony Moeaki is all the way solid (when healthy). I guess I'll give you the rest as I'm too tired to argue this anymore.

I'll be here at the end of the 2013 season, with the Chiefs missing the playoffs, and Alex Smith either being awful or having missed a good chunk of the season due to injury.

Then we can really talk and see how great this trade was.

That's my point. Maybe you'll be here in 2013 with Alex Smith playing quite well, and the Chiefs making the playoffs.

You have two options. Be positive, or be negative. Because regardless, the trade has been done.

I didn't realize it was already March 12th, and I didn't realize we already knew the EXACT compensation here. Interesting.

Or maybe you can just see the future?

Gonna have to face the music sooner or later. If it wasn't going happen there probably would have been a ton of refuted or inconsistent reports.

Well you're the one crying about how it's two picks, etc, etc, and how terrible a trade it is. I came in here to support your team and try to give some positive thought and you still attack, attack without any memory of context or what you'd been saying.

I apologize for trying to help you have a better outlook.

Enjoy your misery until the trade doesn't happen on March 12th then.

There is nothing anyone will be able to say that makes this trade worth it. The only people arguing that it was a good trade for the Chiefs are homer 49er fans, Brodeur, and J-Mike.

Excuse me if I don't automatically buy in here.

As well as your team's new coach, GM, and owner. It is what it is. Try to be positive. Maybe you'll be surprised.

If i was a Chiefs i would be pissed too.

But you never know. Reid is no slouch when it comes to QB's. I think Smith is too limited to be a long-term guy, but Reid is a coach who can maximize Smith's talents- like Harbaugh did.

I think the Chiefs will get the Alex of the 2011-2012 seasons and not 2006 or 2010, whether thats good enough or not remains to be seen. I know even this year Alex caused a ton of debate on 49er boards across the net. He'd have some brilliant games like his performance against the Packers, Bills, or Cardinals, and then he'd stink up the joint against the Giants, Seahawks, and Jets.

Hopefully for your sake you get more good Alex than bad Alex.

It saves you from stupidly making a mistake by drafting Geno Smith first overall, so there is a benefit.

Ya, now we can take the overhyped Joeckel or Floyd instead. That sounds a lot better to me.

Now they get to draft... A player that doesn't make them better. Again, would rather have Geno.

Its basically a very late 1st round pick. This is why people should be careful of jumping down peoples throats when they suggest something. I wonder if they offered the same deal to Philly. You'd think Andy would rather have Foles. That is a very valuable pick to deal. He isn't signed long term. Its a very bold move by Reid. Off season is off to a great start.

At least it isn't the worst QB trade that came out of your division.

Wait.. you're going to tell a Chiefs fan how to feel about WASTING a pick on a guy that flat out sucks? The Chiefs? Who haven't won a playoff game in 20 seasons because they have gone through re-tread after re-tread? Give me a break. Fat Andy came here to do 2 things.. Eat up all the BBQ and win a superbowl. He isn't going to do either by allowing Oklahoma Joes to stay in business and trading for Alex Smith.

After sleeping on it, I like this trade even less. If I were a KC fan, I'd be pretty upset.

You have two options. Be positive, or be negative. Because regardless, the trade has been done.
Chiefs aren't making the playoffs with Alex Smith. It shouldn't be about "just making the playoffs." They should try and win a superbowl, acquiring Alex Smith is not a Superbowl winning move. It is a "safe" move for Fat Andy.
