The rumor is that's exactly what we're doing. Something in the 4 year $40m range.

You don't know that the trade was ultimately bad for the organization. Pick 34 and a conditional mid-rounder do not have the value that emotional Draft fans think they do.
Also, it's quite possible the Chiefs would have drafted a QB worse than Smith, had they not traded for him.

And it's quite possible they could have drafted a QB much, much better than Smith. Someone younger with a lot more upside.

You don't trade two premium picks for a QB and only rent him for two years.

Thank you for taking Dorsey before the Packers decided to make him Ted Thompson's successor.

He would have been fine there in GB. They clearly have a QB for the next 10+ years, so he likely wouldn't have made such a dumbshit trade like this.

Maybe the chiefs surprise everyone and still take a QB first overall, and Alex Smith is just a drunken bet that they lost?

Would be a pretty epic troll attempt by Reid and Dorsey if they still went QB #1. It isn't going to happen, but that would be hilarious.

You're still only harping on a single game, and that is ******* HILARIOUS to me. Congrats, he played well against one of the worst defenses to ever step on a field.. he's totally worth what we gave up for him now! Thank god all our games next year are against the Saints.

This is not a new story for Chiefs fans. This is literally the history of our franchise, so excuse us if we can't get excited about another retread mediocre QB who will be spinning his wheels.
|
You missed out on a chance to draft...
McNair and Kerry Collins.
Never produced like top 5 pick Franchise QB but were both in a Super Bowl cause the NFL is a team game.
Tony Banks
Jim Druckenmiller
Needed to go 3-13 not 13-3 to have a shot at Manning or Leaf.
Tim Couch, Donovan McNabb, Akili Smith, Daunte Culpepper, Cade McNown
Chad Pennington
Michael Vick
David Carr, Joey Harrington
Carson Palmer, Byron Leftwich, let Kyle Boller slide by when trading a pick
Eli Manning, Philip Rivers, Ben Roethlisberger
Alex Smith passed on Rodgers and Campbell
Vince Young, Matt Leinart, Jay Cutler
JaMarcus Russell and Quinn 1 pick before Bowe, darn the luck
Matt Ryan
Matthew Stafford
Sam Bradford
Cam Newton, Jake Locker, Blaine Gabbert, Christian Ponder
Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, Ryan Tannehill
Doesn't seem like not sucking enough has been the biggest problem the past 20 years. Unless that sucking is concentrated to one of the few fortunate years to have a top pick.

They were middle of the pack in 2011, but nice try.

Yeah, the Chiefs were getting an emerging 26 year old QB that just won 11 games and threw for 3700 yards behind a bad line AND a high end OLB for just one pick....

4 years 40 million is hilariously bad.
I'm sorry Chief fans.

10 mill a year for a starting QB is cheap...
Also, it could be a contract that the Chiefs could get out of easily.

See, if they gave up a 3rd for Smith and gave him a cap friendly deal I wouldn't mind.
Bc then they could have drafted a qb in round 2, he would be dirt cheap for 4 years while Smith is your caretaker backup plan, and you still wouldn't have a lot of money dedicated to qb.
That wouldve been a good move. Give Smith like 3 years 20 million with a 2nd round qb making like 1 mill a year, you'd be fine.
And giving up a 3rd for Smith would have been good value.
But giving up a 2nd and a conditional pick then turning around and giving him 40 million is such a terrible move. So so bad.

10 million a year for a good qb is cheap. 10 mill a year for a mediocre one is not cheap.

The Chiefs franchise ladies and gentlemen. Irrelevant since the late 60s and for the foreseeable future!
Does any other teams fanbase want to adopt someone who is loyal to a fault? :(

Fans always expect to get unrealistically favorable trades. Unfortunately for the Chiefs, they have to do business in the actual NFL.

Name a good QB, not playing under his rookie copntract, that can be had for 10 mill a year. Again, not realistic.

Nah, I like his rule.
Blaine Gabbert is a starting QB. 10 mil per year is cheap for a starting QB. Therefore, the Jags should sign Gabbert to 5 years / 50 mil. That's fun to think about.
