It is an opinion, and no where did I state they shouldn't have paid Flacco. It was the market rate and I think he is getting overpaid greatly and that it will turn out to hurt the Ravens.

In this FA period there are younger options at that price. Plus they have touchdown Tommy Streeter they are developing so maybe they see him progressing nicely and don't think they need Boldin?

Btw I don't know if anyone cares but it looks all but certain the Colts will sign OG Louis Vasquez. I'm excited. We haven't had even a solid guard since Polian stupidly cut Ryan Lilja after the 09 SB loss.

I care. He seems to be a stellar signing for the Colts.

Dont remember how good/bad he was in 2011, but according to PFF he was by far the Lions best o-lineman last season. He was apparently very good in pass pro, which surprised me.
If he isnt breaking the bank with his demands, he could be a very solid upgrade at RT for the Colts IMO.

He actually would fit a typical Colts lineman. I'm alright with letting Levitre go. He is not even as good as Brandon Moore is who will come way cheaper than him. Good luck paying a Guard whos never made a pro bowl or all pro team 7-8 mill a year.

For the Colts that is exactly what they need. I don't want the see the best QB prospect in a decade get tee'd off on 10ish times a game like he was last season.

He was great last year, and I doubt he'll mail it in. He isn't that lazy, he just has issues sometimes mentally which he basically fixed. He won't be as expensive as Winston, so it'll help. Trade up for Warmack, sign Gosder and Louis Vasquez, and roll in the success. Well, you need a center too but not everything can be fixed.

Ravens | Teammate thinks Anquan Boldin should refuse pay cut
Sun, 10 Mar 2013 10:32:39 -0700
Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco said he believes WR Anquan Boldin should refuse a pay cut if he believes he should get his full salary because he was an important player for the team in their championship run. "Without him, we don't win the Super Bowl. He's a huge part of this team and someone I want to see back," Flacco said. "Obviously, when you're a player of his caliber, you believe you're worth a number and that's what you should get. He's going to stick to his guns, and that's the way it should be."

If Flacco thinks that maybe he should have left the Ravens a bit more leeway with his contract.

Flaaco just shut up already. You're not worth what you got paid and Boldin is 32 years old and on the obvious decline. You should be praying that they cut him and get you a younger target like Mike Wallace. Could you imagine that offense with Smith and Wallace on the outsides and Jones in the slot? Who do you cover? EVEN AS decoys running go routes or clear outs they'd create huge holes for Pitta and Rice.
If Bmore is smart, they'll cut him and let him test FA so he can see what the market is for an old declining WR.

I don't know why people keep saying this.
Flacco's cap number is less than Boldin's and doesn't get big until Boldin's contract is done with. The Ravens are not in a terrible place, cap-wise, right now. Flacco's contract has basically zero effect on Baltimore's 2013 season; it accounts for 5.5% of the salary cap. His giant signing bonus allowed for his cap number to be easily manageable for the next three years.
One of the best, most intelligent GMs in football has three seasons to replace expensive, aging members of his team with cheap, young players...and by that time the contract will be in a place where can just extend Flacco again to lower his cap number, anyway. The structure of that contract is a work of art.

It's not brilliantly designed. It places the burden towards the later years of the contract. The problem with extending him after the initial low years is that you need to provide an absurd amount of guarantees to convince him to agree to an extension. They can't outright cut him in the 28 and 31 million cap hit years or else they risk $25 and $15 million in dead money respectively, and they're going to have to do something to get that number down, because the team can't afford to have those kinds of cap hits on their books.
The Pats needed to guarantee Brady a ton of money just to get him to agree to lower his cap number from the $22 million he was going to make. It was a huge burden that they couldn't handle. So essentially they guaranteed him 15 millionish for the rest of his career. The Ravens are going to have to do the same with Flacco except they're going to have to take an even bigger guaranteed cap hit for a guy who isn't nearly as good.
Every contract that large needs to be paid at some point. I bet the Jets thought they were geniuses by paying Holmes $1.5 million in the first year of his contract, but now they have a 10+ million cap hit for a #2 receiver that they can't cut.

Dunta Robinson got 3 years/$15m from the Chiefs, $4m guaranteed in 2012, and backloaded apparently. Can cut him if he doesn't play up to potential, but maybe the rumors of him moving to FS are true. Maybe they're looking for another CB in FA.

Not too surprising. He has to be lusting after a championship, and considering how close he got this year and the fact he obviously hasn't grown too old to play, it makes a bit of sense. Although personally I obviously hoped he remained retired.

He isn't really anything more than average anymore, but hey whatever gives the Falcons the feeling of a boost.

He's a slow ************ who gets targeted a lot and can't block at all at this point in his career. He's still good at catching what's thrown to him, but that's about it really.

The Seahawks and Niners must have slow defenses to allow him to scores touchdowns in the playoffs.

Hey, he doesn't get any yards after the catch and doesn't block. I don't see you disputing this. I said he catches most of what is thrown to him and doesn't drop a lot of balls which is nice, but it's not like he's Gronk here.
