To much of a risk with the type of contract he is going to want coming off an ACL, plus the fact that you have to give up draft picks. Pass.
Sign Goldson and Sean Smith for the same price and pick a corner in the draft.

Apparently the Bucs won't give No. 13 and that's the only holdup.

The new Jets GM is playing hardball rather than giving in and taking the 2nd +.

I think while they don't have much leverage, they will have multiple suitors, which means they can afford to decline that offer right now.

But they definitely don't want to keep him for too long.

The problem with the Bucs is that they really can't give them much more than the 2nd.

Another team needs to jump in this thing. Maybe Cincy does something crazy. But it's hard to see them dealing with the AFC. I guess San Fran is still lurking, and they should give up their late first. Maybe KC? Maybe Jacksonville? Maybe Cleveland?

The Jets have to pay Revis a $1 million bonus if he's on their roster on Saturday, so if a trade is going to happen, it'll happen by then.

If I'm Mark Dominik, I'm telling Idzik that he can either take a 2nd rounder this year and next or get bent. I'm not going to give him anymore more than that... And if they want to let Revis rot on their roster for a year and watch him walk next offseason with no compensation, that's fine. We'll probably have plenty of cap room then.

Yup that's probably what has happened. And the Jets might actually be willing to take that offer. But why not wait until Friday and drum up the interest?

Now that teams know what Tampa is offering it's their cue to up that and offer something sweeter. If no one does, the Jets will probably take Tampa's offer. If someone does, the Jets will have that deal as their No. 1 priority. They can call Tampa and try to up their deal.

But they need that 2nd team to give a better offer than Tampa. Or the perception that that team exists. Otherwise it's going to be the 2 2nds.

Here's the thing, though... Dominik isn't stupid enough to paint himself into a corner. The Bucs NEED at least one cornerback in the worst way and he knows that if the FA market at the position dries up, he loses his leverage.

If the Jets are going to continue to screw around, the Bucs should just look to sign one of the cornerbacks on the FA market and take their picks into the draft looking for another one.

There hasn't been a lot of interest for the other CBs in general. It makes me believe people are trying to figure out ways to make a play at Revis (even if it's a pipe dream), or at least waiting until that is sorted out. Maybe if Sean Smith signs somewhere, then I would panic a little. If I were the Jets, I would shoot for a 2nd this year and a 1st next year (no escalator). Because of the lower value on future picks, I think that's perfectly reasonable. But, I do believe there's two or so other teams that will be surfacing in the next couple of days.

They are offering 2014 1st Rnd pick if they dont want the 2013 2nd Rnd pick.

The Jets GM needs to take that and run IMO.

The first part of this post isn't true at all. You don't deal a player like Revis because of a $1 million dollar deadline. Idzik said he'll work on this through the draft and beyond to find the value he think is fair but he isn't going to be pressured into a lesser deal because of a mil.

Yeah, I agree wholeheartedly. I think they'd prefer to do it by then, but what they get in return for Revis has to be the most important thing. The bigger issue for the Jets is if teams start signing corners. Right now they've been lucky that the market has been pretty much at a standstill as far as that goes.

Bucs are the only seriously interested team. I don't expect the Bucs to wait after Saturday, they need corners and can't afford to miss out in free agency. Maybe they cave and give up a first, but we definitely will know a lot sooner then the draft.

Where did you hear they're the only interested team?

Also, I feel like the Revis camp took a big hit when Sean Smith signed for the deal he did. That was far lower than I was expecting, and every CB deal so far has been for remarkably cheap. At this point, I wouldn't even rule out him re-signing with the Jets haha.

It'll be interesting to see what Revis signs for. If it's somewhere around 12, 13 million a year I'll be relatively upset because to me that'll mean it got personal and Woody just demanded that they move him regardless. If they're giving Cromartie 10.75 million a year they should be able to pay Revis a couple million more.

What makes you say that?

Woody Johnson's comments regarding his reluctance to give Revis another contract have already been made public, so that's a pretty bold prediction.

Imagine if this whole trading Revis discussion is all just a master plan by the maniacal Woody Johnson to get people to talk about the Jets this offseason then he turns around and signs him to an extension?

At this point, is it really that crazy of an idea anymore when we're talking Jets?

"We don't have the cap room to give mediocre free agents huge contracts this year and we already have Tim Tebow...let's pretend to put Revis on the trading block so the media still talks about us."

I could see it.

Wish we could have a new owner. On the bright side, the leaks out of the organization seem to have cut down a bit now that Idzik is in control and they haven't done anything too stupid yet (besides telling everyone they wanted to trade Revis, of course - but I think that was just before Idzik was hired).

Wonder what the FA corner market is going to mean for the Revis situation. Guys are not getting paid a lot, could make it difficult for anyone to extend him since they may be far off trying to meet his demands. Curious to see if he just elects to wait out this year and hit open FA after this season in hopes that the market for corners is better. Would make things very hard on the Jets.

Yep. One way or another it's something to get espn off the Tebow subject. However he'll be next after Revis is dealt.

I don't think Revis is trade-able, he's asking for QB money which is why the Jets want to dump him and I don't think any team will pay him accordingly in the new cap era of the NFL, where the cap $$$'s is flat, at least for the next couple of years.

Teams realize that the Jets don't want to pay him and will likely lose him eventually to FA. With the money he is demanding, the best he can hope for is a 1 season rental and only teams close to a Super Bowl run will be willing to rent for 1 season at the price he is asking.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out but I seriously doubt any team will give up more than a 4th rounder for him considering they know the Jets don't want to pay him.

I will bet you whatever Revis gets in his next contract that he commands more than a 4th rounder on the block.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reported Wednesday that Revis would get an average annual salary between $12 million and $13 million from the Buccaneers in a long-term contract. Sources told Mehta that Revis would agree to a contract "without much trouble."

Well that would seem to be less than what we were all talking about, but maybe the guaranteed would be a lot, or it's for several years. We're cash strapped, so we probably couldn't even do that much, but I would be a little bit more upset if that was how much he signed on for.

...However, I will say that if dealings between the Bucs and Revis are mutually believed to be without trouble, that's a bargaining chip lost for Tampa Bay. Sure, the knee thing is a huge deal, but considering where modern medicine is at, the precedence set by Adrian Peterson (as inhuman as he may be), and just the general track record of football players coming back from ligament injuries in recent years, it would then seem the only thing to be in their favor would be how much money he would command. With that out of the way, the Jets would appear to be in a good place with these negotiations.

The Bucs could hang on to the fact that no one else is making a play and if we let him play out his contract, he could leave and we wouldn't get any compensation (beyond the likely 3rd rounder). However, the cap will more than likely rise next year, our books are going to clear up a significant amount, and we would be in the position to offer him as much money as he could ever want (if that's what we'd like to do). Added to that, if they don't trade for him now, there's no guarantee they would get him, and it'd be much more likely that he would attempt to go to a top contender (which they could be...).

I think it's painfully obvious the 49ers are still lurking in this.

They haven't signed Aso yet and the report was that the team was still 'considering it.' Wtf? If he's willing to sign there, why would the team STILL be mulling it over?

I bet they are either trying to go over numbers to fit Revis in or really considering renting him for a year and then maybe re-upping after the season.

"Without Much Troube" = He'll be happy for a year, maybe 2. Then hold out for more money.

Tell me what Cap-Room the Niners have to re-sign Revis for a big deal and then Kaepernick after next season?
