Thankfully, it is looking unlikely that Brandon Marshall's wife is going to be all stabby this offseason.

Wow, this is so ridiculously dumb. I heard this on the radio a couple days ago and after a couple days I have decided I'm even more against it.

I mean, really, a running back has to have the ability to protect his body and the football.

Another ridiculous idea proposed by the NFL that will slowly come to pass just like the 18 game schedule.

I'd rather the game not exist than have an extremely watered down version of it, which is the direction the NFL is heading towards.

I can deal with the 18 game schedule if it comes in conjunction with revocable IR. I can't stand this proposed rule.

I don't think ticket prices will drop. I think it would be in conjunction with shortening preseason, so it would be a tradeoff for season ticket holders who have to pay full price for preseason tickets anyway. This would mean they get a better value for 1 of their tickets.

An active player is considering coming out.

Quote:
Based on interviews over the past several weeks with current and former players, I'm told that a current *** NFL player is strongly considering coming out publicly within the next few months -- and after doing so, the player would attempt to continue his career.

I'm told this player feels the time is now for someone to take this step -- despite homophobic remarks from San Francisco 49ers defensive back Chris Culliver and the controversy arising recently at the Indianapolis Scouting combine, when prospects were asked questions about their sexuality.

This player's true concern, I'm told, is not the reaction inside an NFL locker room but outside of it. The player fears he will suffer serious harm from homophobic fans, and that is the only thing preventing him from coming out. My sources will not say who this alleged player is.

There has never been an active openly *** player in a major American team sport, but the information I've gathered on the player in question comes from several current and former players.

If you aren't a pro bowler I don't see why an NFL player would come out. I'd bet some of the biggest homophobes in the NFL are the owners and coaches, the men directly responsible for a player making a team and getting a paycheck.

You better be one of the absolute best at your position, or I think you're going to find yourself out of a job soon.

It really depends on the market. If a player came out in New England he'd increase his job security. It would be a PR coup for the owner, and he'd instantly become one of the most popular players.

I'd rather the game not exist than have an extremely watered down version of it, which is the direction the NFL is heading towards.
Unfortunately, the simple fact is the NFL is facing a multitude of legal suits over head injuries and these rules are the result of necessity not the betterment of the game, except as far as injuries go.
Apparently, the lawyers are telling the NFL that they must be seen as doing what they can to prevent injury or we might indeed not have a NFL in the future.

Regarding Rudy Cool players, the NFL is probably the closest thing to a true meritocracy that the world has ever seen.

Even the 1960's, there were semi-openly *** players:

Quote:
Lombardi's unprejudiced attitude was not confined to his players' race or ethnicity. Lombardi was aware of tight end Jerry Smith's homosexuality, and upon arriving in Washington, told Smith in confidence that it would never be an issue as long as he was coaching the Redskins. Smith flourished, becoming an integral part of Lombardi's offense, and was voted a First Team All-Pro for the first time in his career, which was also Lombardi's only season as Redskin head coach. Lombardi invited other *** players to training camp, and Lombardi would privately hope they would prove they could earn a spot on the team. At the Washington Redskins training camp in 1969, Ray McDonald was a *** player, with sub-par skills, who was trying to make the Redskin roster again, but this time with Lombardi as the Redskins' new head coach. Lombardi told running back coach, George Dickson, 'I want you to get on McDonald and work on him and work on him - and if I hear one of you people make reference to his manhood, you'll be out of here before your ass hits the ground.'
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vince_L...judiced_nature

The big issue would be the media circus. Having a publicly openly *** player would be like Tebow-mania times 10,000.

I agree that it wouldn't make much of a difference in that player getting work. NFL teams care too much about winning to let a players sexuality get in the way of signing him.

Because of the media it was always going to be hard for the first *** player to come out. It would be good though, once the first player is out the way it would be less of a big deal the next time.

Increased job security? Yes.
PR coup for owner? Probably.
Instantly one of the most popular players? No.

I don't know you guys, there's been several players rumored to be *** coming out of college that ended up being undrafted.

Sure, the NFL could get sued for cutting a homosexual if he's already on the team, but they can get out of that many ways just as they have for discriminating based on age.

Discriminating based on age? That would be completely different to discriminating someone based on their sexuality.

I don't even know how age discrimination can be a thing in the NFL.

Age discrimination is not very possible in the NFL. There is a threshold of 40 to be eligible to age discrimination. Most players retire long before 40.
