RaiderNation's March Madness 1st Round Mock Draft 3/20
This is only my 2nd published mock draft, still just 1 round for now. I'm predicting Arizona/Buffalo will try to trade up for Geno Smith if Jacksonvile passes on him but all signs point to the Jaguars targeting him at #2. Questions and comments are welcomed...
1 Kansas City Chiefs- Luke Joeckel OT Texas A&M*
KC won't be able to trade down and moving Albert to RT and Joeckel at LT will vastly improve the oline play.
2 Jacksonville Jaguars- Geno Smith QB West Virginia
Despite being only a top 25 prospect, Geno Smith will go to a team in the top 8, and right now the Jaguars look to be the favorite.
3 Oakland Raiders- Dion Jordan DE/OLB Oregon
With the recent additions to the DT position, expect Oakland to finally find a pass rusher like Jordan who can play DE and OLB in the multiple scheme look.
4 Philadelphia Eagles- Star Lotulelei NT Utah
The Eagles could go for Fisher, but if they opt to try to really move to the 3-4 scheme Lotulelei will be a very nice addition to play some NT and DE.
5 Detroit Lions- Eric Fisher OT Michigan State
Backus recently retired and keeping Stafford healthy is a must so keeping Fisher in state will be an ideal addition.
6 Cleveland Browns- Chance Warmack OG Alabama
Cleveland has added a lot of talent to the defensive side of the ball, and adding a potential All-Pro OG like Warmack could dramatically improve the offensive.
7 Arizona Cardinals- Matt Barkley QB USC
On draft day I don't see Arizona staying at 7, and trading down some to add their "franchise" would be the best idea.
8 Buffalo Bills- Cordarrlle Patterson WR Tennessee*
The Bills could try to trade up for Geno Smith, but if opt to stay at 8 look for them to add another WR opposite Stevie Johnson like Patterson.
9 New York Jets- Jarvis Jones OLB Georiga*
Rex Ryan needs to find a pass rusher on the edge to make his defense work, and despite Jones reported medical condition a team will take a chance in the top 10 on him.
10 Tennessee Titans- Sharrif Floyd DT Florida*
I'm not as high on Floyd as others, but the Titans could really use a UT like him inside to generate more pressure on the QB.
11 San Diego Chargers- Lane Johnson OT Oklahoma
Johnson's stock has climbed a lot since the combine and getting a blindside protector for Rivers should be the top priority for San Diego on draft day.
12 Miami Dolphins- Dee Milliner CB Alabama*
Milliner slides all the way 12 and give the Dolphins a quality replacement for Sean Smith at CB.
13 Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Bjoern Werner DE/OLB Florida State*
Tampa needs to replace Bennett at DE and Werner could easily get playing time at a rookie for this young talented dline.
14 Carolina Panthers- Shelden Richardson DT Missouri*
The Panthers finally solve their DT issue after multiple picks being used on the position recently by adding Richardson inside here.
15 New Orleans Saints- Barkevious Mingo DE/OLB LSU*
With Rex Ryan as the new DC, expect the Saints to add some 3-4 pieces like Mingo who could be a great situational pass rusher as a rookie.
16 St. Louis Rams- Kenny Vaccaro FS/SS Texas
The Rams had a very solid F/A period, and now get to add some help in the secondary with Vaccaro here.
17 Pittsburgh Steelers- Ezekiel Ansah DE/OLB BYU
Harrison was released and finding his replacement should be a high priority, and Ansah has great potential and value here at 17.
18 Dallas Cowboys- DJ Fluker OT/OG Alabama*
Jerry Jones loves his big mauling olinemen, and Fluker is just that and could play RT or OG for the Cowboys.
19 New York Giants- Manti Te'o ILB Notre Dame
ILB seems to have been a need for a while for the Giants, and Te'o could solve that issue despite his recent fat-fish incident.
20 Chicago Bears- Jonathan Hankins DT Ohio State*
Chicago added a starting LT and TE in F/A, so adding talent on defense like Hankins could be the best move for them at 20.
21 Cincinnati Bengals- Arthur Brown OLB Kansas State
Adding Brown to play WLB could give the Bengals a very solid LB crew for the next few years in a division that you need it in.
22 St. Louis Rams(f/WAS)- Jonathan Cooper OG UNC
St. Louis now add's a quality OG to help the oline rebuilding process with Cooper to go along with Jake Long who was added in F/A.
23 Minnesota Vikings- Justin Hunter WR Tennessee*
Greg Jennings replaces Harvin as the top target, but still adding a big threat at #2 for Ponder could really make this offense explode.
24 Indianapolis Colts- Damontre Moore DE/OLB Texas A&M*
Freeney is gone and not having a young pass rusher for the 3-4 defense make me think a prospect like Moore will be the selection here.
25 Minnesota Vikings(f/SEA)- Xavier Rhodes CB Florida State*
The CB position needs upgrading in Minnesota and Rhodes is has very solid value here to help this team.
26 Green Bay Packers- Eddie Lacy RB Alabama*
Not landing Steven Jackson hurts the Packers chances next season, but Lacy isnt a bad consolation prize and will be the top RB for them for the future as well.
27 Houston Texans- Tavon Austin WR West Virginia
The Texans are desperate for a play maker other than Foster and Johnson, and Austin could be exactly what they are looking for as a slot WR.
28 Denver Broncos- Desmond Trufant CB Washington
Despite adding DRC in F/A I still see Denver adding some secondary help and Trufant could see time as a nickel CB as well.
29 New England Patriots- DeAndre Hopkins WR Clemson*
Welker and Lloyd aren't on the team anymore and getting some youth at WR like Hopkins could be the idea of the Patriots draft this year.
30 Atlanta Falcons- Sam Montgomery DE LSU*
With no replacement for John Abraham added yet, expect Atlanta to look for a DE and Montgomery is the best DE on the board here.
31 San Francisco 49ers- Jonathan Banks CB Mississippi
I'm still a believer that the 49ers will either trade for Revis or add Asomugha, but even if ones of those happen still expect them to look to add another cover guy.
32 Baltimore Ravens- Kevin Minter ILB LSU*
The Ray Lewis era has ened in Baltimore, and adding his replacement should be a top need especially after Ellerbe left to Miami.
"Just Win Baby"- Al Davis
