Davis is definitely a top 15 pass catching TE and a surprisingly average to dare i say above average blocker. The problem is that he's always hurt, and another positive drug test away from a year long suspension. I prefer Logan Paulsen despite his physical limitations because he's a far better blocker and more reliable hands to Davis who has lots of crucial drops. Fred is definitely a very good 2nd rate version of Vernon Davis when healthy.

Why would you move him inside? He had 6 sacks as a rookie. Could be a great strong side DE in a 4-3. What Ellis was with the Jets when they had him and Abraham as bookend De's.

With the Ravens signing Dumervil that makes for a very good unit still

McPhee, Jones, Canty, Spears, Cody and Ngata on the D Line

Dumervil, Suggs and Upshaw as OLB's

Webb, Smith and Graham at the CB's

This D has some big time holes, but you can say they have by far the deepest DT unit in the league. Two OLB that could put up 15 sacks each and CB's that when healthy can play some good ball.

Derek Wolfe is a ****** pass rusher. He had 25 total pressures on 530 pass snaps. That's abysmal. The reason such a high percentage of them turned into sacks is that QBs were busy running from Miller and Dumervil right into him. He was 14th in run stop percentage, though...so that's pretty good. He's 300 lbs, he can't beat tackles to get to the QB, he was drafted as a DT...there is nothing about Wolfe that makes him look like a 4-3 end.

Derek Wolfe showed significant potential as a pass rusher coming out of the draft, and has only had 1 season in the pros. A sack is still much more impactful than a rather innocuous "pressure". Does he need to get better? Of course he does, but lets not write off a guy who played rotational snaps his rookie season, and one who seemed to get better as the season went along.

I think Denver should switch to a 3-4. What's holding them back? Their 2 best front 7 players (Von and Wolfe) are better in a 34 front. So might as well switch now, it's not like the other 5 guys in the front 7 are any good and would force you to keep the 43.

wolfe is a mediocre DT. he gets washed out by guards, he doesn't get any push, and he's worthless against the run. he generally held the edge pretty well at DE, so while he wasn't making a big impact on the passing game, it didn't matter. that's what von is there for.
That's assuming your defense is static. It changes every year. There's no guarantee that this year's defense will replicate the success of last year. Look at it from a personnel standpoint: Your 2 best players in your front 7 are better suited for an odd front, and the other 5 aren't really so critical to your defense that they can't be upgraded or adjust to the slight change in scheme.

I refer to this as a slight change not a major one bc you guys run a lot of odd front concepts anyway. You attack gaps like a 34 1 gap defense that disguises its shell in a 43 front anyway. But you still use some 43 concepts as well. Going to a Wade Phillips style 34 front would streamline your front 7 in my eyes.

The kid has some talent thats for sure but he just doesn't seem to get it.

He has 14 traffic charges in Loudoun County, 13 in Fairfax County, and one each in the cities of Falls Church and Fairfax, Virginia.

Suggs says Dumervil is the first dominant pass rusher he has been paired with in his career.

Paul Kruger dies a little inside.

again: we're talking about one of the best olbs in the league. and a so far, average-with-potential-de. you don't flip your defense because one might be fractionally better, and the other might sort of vaguely fit. i also don't really see how wolfe is any better in a 34, but whatever.
A 1 gap odd front is really not that much different from what you're already doing. The only difference would be putting Von in a more aggressive role at the LOS, and moving Wolfe btw the RG and RT vs having him over the RT's shoulder.

The rest of the front 7 wouldn't be effected. They play the same gaps. It just would allow you to draft a SAM who can rush or drop, which you need anyway, and use Von in a more aggressive role without having to rush 5 in the base front while doing it.

Does anyone even buy Kruger as a #1 pass rusher? Good, maybe great complimentary player, but definitely not a top 15 pass rusher.

Definitely not as a #1, but I can definitely see why Cleveland valued him so high. They are building a pretty tough defense there.

Yeah, I hope they draft someone else to help with the rush.

Kruger screams Ray Edwards.

Maybe the Browns should pick up Edwards as well.

I was just trying to think of that guy's name. Yes. Ray Edwards. That's exactly who I think Kruger is. Solid addition to the team, but I do think others in the league will outperform him for the same money or less.

It's the right move. I've soured on Romo after this past year but ultimately it's the right move. You gotta ride the Romo train a little longer before you jump off it.
