The Ravens made the right choice by not overpaying their own guys, but they also got extremely lucky that a player like Dumervil was available

And what Im saying is even if they did had the cap space, I doubt they would still be Ravens because I don't see Ozzie giving them the kind of money they received on the open market. Maybe Reed and Boldin would have been brought back, but I always felt like Ellerbe and Kruger were not real priorities for them.

Everybody got lucky that Dumervil was available, it wasn't like he got picked up off of waivers. He was a free agent, and Ozzie did what he had to do with his cap to free up enough money to land him. It's not just sheer luck. I highly doubt Dumervil would be there if they kept Reed, Pollard, Boldin, etc.

The contracts of Elvis Dumerville, Chris Canty, Marcus Spears, and Michael Huff combined, are less than what Paul Kruger got from Cleveland :)

Going to be really weird seeing him in a non Giants uni.

Another thing about the Raven's D is they are getting Ladarius Webb back.

Even with if we had space, the Ravens wouldn't overpay for Kruger and Ellerbe. Right player, right price. They got overpaid for a 3rd down passrusher and a replaceable ILB. Ravens made no attempt to resign Kruger because we had no shot at matching the money he would get in the open market. We wanted Ellerbe but not for $35 mil. ILB is one of the easier positions to replace, especially for a team that has a good history with late picks and UDFA LBs. Kruger was good but we have Upshaw already and he is still cheap. Even if we were flush with cash we would over pay for those 2

Getting Dumerville was pure luck but he is a guy who is actually worth the money. He is a proven top level pass rusher. He was even cheaper and better structured than Kruger.

The only guy who was a cap casualty was Boldin. Everyone else was a proactive move to keep our cap in order for the future.

ACL is sketchy though.. people love Webb around here, if healthy he is an asante samuel type player sometimes.

An Asante Samuel who can play man-to-man coverage and tackle at least. This is Webb's second ACL injury (one for each knee) so that is a concern but with the way he came back from the last one as well as how most players are recovering from them now days I'm not too worried.

Well yeah I imagine he will be ok when he returns, otherwise Jimmy Smith!

They could use maybe another CB, idk who else is out there but I am sure they do not have much space left.

Say what you want about the players, it's still devastating to lose your two biggest leaders.

People often mistake leadership for being a veteran, and that's not the case. Tons of veterans aren't leaders

I'm pretty happy with our CB depth actually. I wouldn't hate another vet CB but I'd be more than happy with our guys we have now.

Just getting Webb, Suggs, & Ngata healthier will be huge.

mightytitan I hear ya, this will be a different defense it may take them a little while to get it together, but at the same time they are a defense that plugs em in and goes.

I think they'll be fine. But they've never had to plug their two leaders in, the last leader time they really had to replace a real leader was Rod Woodson

See that Darrius Heyward-Bey thinks the Lions look "appealing." I'll say. Matthew Stafford throwing deep bombs to Heyward-Bey as a secondary option is a match made in heaven. Can you imagine teams trying to defend Calvin Johnson while having to worry about having a stray bullet shoot down the sideline every few plays? His whole M.O. as a prospect was that he could get under it waaay downfield, and Matthew Stafford's arm gives him the longest distance in the league to pull away from some team's second or third best defensive back. It's perfect. If he goes there, the Lions are going to ruin some secondaries.

He's not really that much of a deep threat. He's like a faster, less-talented Brandon Marshall right now. Good catch-and-run guy with underrated hands and poor routes. With his speed he should get open more, especially deep. Not all of that is on the **** QBs he's had throwing the ball. At least that is my impression. Oakland fans can correct me.

I think he'll sign with Indy though. He spent 2 days here and like a few hours in Detroit. Indy has more cap space. It's a better spot for him to rehab his career IMO. I think the "Detroit is so appealing" comments are last-minute attempts to bump up the Colts' offer. I expect to hear the announcement tomorrow that the Colts will sign him.

He'll get Stafford picked off because he's not a very good deep ball receiver. He lets the DBs get under him (or over) and pick the passes off. He's a short yardage guy that runs with the ball. Not one that goes up and catches it.

I agree. So Stafford doesn't end up throwing every pass to his college butt buddy again this season.

It sucks when you have a WR that is 6'5 and worthless.

Stafford just needs a field stretcher that will make the defenses think twice about triple covering Mega on the other side. Titus was supposed to be that guy but as we all know he was a dumbass. Nasty Nate will catch anything thrown his way but he doesn't get the same separation he used to when he was younger so he doesn't really scare any defenses.

I think DHB would be a good signing for a 1 year deal. Throw him out there and see what he can do opposite of Mega. Hit some of those home run throws that Stafford loves when he sees man to man coverage. DHB doesn't need to outjump or fight for the ball like he did with Palmer throws. All he has to do is get past his man coverage and Staff has the arm to lead him down the field.

Everyone got on Staffords balls last year but I never saw more dropped passes down the field or in the redzone in my life.

We did have a lot of drops last year.. but Stafford also developed this strange obsession with throwing goofy sidearm passes, and he also throws off his back foot a little too much.

He definitely became obsessed with it to the point where everytime he wanted to do a "touch" pass, it was coming out sidearm. At the same time, when he would do a sidearm pass that worked perfect for a 1st down, it looked badass lol.

Throwing off his back foot was definitely the worst of his mechanics last season.

Stafford's problem was not making progressions, and mechanics. He fell in love with Calvin too much. He needs to do a better job of making his progressions. And someone needs to really coach up his mechanics and pocket presence.

He has all the ability and talent in the world, and I think he'll clean it up, but he has work to do.
