it worked out for Kiesel and Aaron Smith. Maybe he's the next one. I haven't given up on Heyward yet though...don't think he's been given an opportunity yet.

I agree totally. Hood has been terrible. I think Heyward, given the opportunity, could produce.

I've only seen the 5 so far for Pittsburgh. Jets and Texans are cleaning house of Western PA products (Shanahan, Rontez Miles, Ray Graham, etc)

Northwestern defensive end Brian Arnfelt
Northern Illinois linebacker Alan Baxter
San Diego State guard Nik Embernate
Utah wide receiver Reggie Dunn
Penn State offensive tackle Mike Farrell
Notre Dame offensive tackle Mike Golic, Jr.
Louisiana-Lafayette defensive end Cordian Hagans
UAB guard Chris Hubbard
Florida defensive tackle Omar Hunter
Hawaii long snapper Luke Ingram
West Virginia center Joe Madsen
USC running back Curtis McNeal
Baylor center Ivory Wade
Michigan State defensive tackle Anthony Rashad White
West Virginia wide receiver J.D. Woods

Definitely went for some more trench depth. Really like Madsen, Anthony Rashad White, Hunter and Embernate.

Madsen, Embernate, Dunn, and Ingram are the only guys to realistically have the best shot at the roster. I like JD Woods, but I don't think he passes anyone on the depth chart.

just watched a lot of film on Shamarko Thomas.
On a lot of his hits he's propelling guys a few yards!
Launches them! I'm excited about him being groomed by Troy n Ryan!
I don't know much about the late round picks, but I'd say it overall was an excellent draft! Bummed about no Simon or Mauti, though.

The clips I've seen of him look good. I hate trading next years third for it though when were picking Jones 5 picks later. I'd have much rather traded up those spots then give up next years 3.

I like the positions we hit with this class. I like Jones. Not so high on Bell, mostly cause of what OSU did to him.

I think they can straighten Landry out. Several pundits have said it was a mess in OK last year. His junior year tape looks pretty good.

really surprised with that landry jones pick.. i dont hate it as i think jones is a heckuva player and will develop into a decent pro i just didn't think we'd go qb so early

lacy's injury problems are the reason we didn't bite on him which is understandable

i'm eh with the bell and wheaton picks...

the way this draft fell i would have rather had franklin in the 4th than bell in the 2nd

and if we were taking another small receiver i would have rather had bailey over wheaton

love thomas tho

Wheaton is a physical little guy, he kinda reminds me of holmes (a lot of antonio brown and mike wallace comparisons going on out there)..i wish we would have gotten bigger at WR, but hes a great pick.

I hate the bell pick

another thing that was really surprising to me..

so when we neglected ILB on the first 2 days my thoughts were - okay so theyre pretty sure spence is good to go this season since we've got nothing there

we draft an ilb in the 6th, looks like a great special teams guy - ala sly - so im cool with it then butler says he wold be shocked if spence plays this year and may never play football again

THEN HOW THE EFF DO YOU PASS ON ARTHUR BROWN IN THE 2ND ROUND AND LET HIM GO TO THE RAVENS WHERE HE WILL **** ON US FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS

in all seriousness that sucks for spence that his knee may be career threatening

Holmes was no slouch in the physicality department, he wasnt throwing blindside blocks on LBs but he put his little body to use.

Anyway, i meant in skill set. Heres my write up about the pick, maybe it will clarify a bit

Quote:
Markus Wheaton - Outlook and expectations

While i would have preferred to get bigger at WR, they addressed a need with an excellent value pick. Hes going to be twice the player Patton will be so he was the right selection. His ability to run slants and take them to the house maxed with his ability to stretch the field, get separation from defenders using his hands at the line and crisp route running reminds me of Santonio Holmes. Wheaton, like holmes is very fast but not really a "deep threat" like nate washington was and like wallace is. Hes quite strong for a player his size, he wont have trouble with the jam quite as much as brown and sanders. His best quality is how feisty he is and his ability to play physical and fight for the ball. Remember Ward matching up with guys like Finnegan, Woodson, Harris, and those guys that jam you at the line...i cant wait to see Wheaton use his physicality at the line and his speed and route running to separate and get down the field. Again, he is a player to be excited about and he is a much better player in the 3rd round than Sanders or Willie Reid was. After further review, I completely see what the steelers see in him, he will very likely work the slot as a rookie but hes not a slot WR, hes got some serious outside potential.

Stat prediction

40 catches, 700 yards, 5 TDs

This stat is thinking they do what they did with wallace and holmes as young players...they get the ball down field to them, not necessarily down the sideline, but down the middle of the field which gave both holmes and wallace YPC average over 20 yards which lead the league both times....17-18 yards per catch is not out of the question for Wheaton....hopefully he can unseat cotchery as the #3 sooner rather than later. Hes not Mike Wallace, a lot of people are making that comparison (and did at the combine as well) but hes significantly better as a prospect than both wallace and brown were (neither were exactly world beaters in college). Im really excited
