Chris Weinke (who was the #1 QB in HS back before color television) also went to that HS did he not?

Yes he did. I forgot about him, but he was before the year 2000.

I'm going to say Bowers because he was getting sucked off by scouts so much
Jadaveon Clowney was a superior recruit to all those. But damn, South Carolina is a hotbed for extremely talented defensive ends(LSU's Sam Montgomery also from here).

For Wisconsin

John Clay and Josh Oglesby, both in 2007

Travis Beckum, who I thought was going to be a great Linebacker for Wisconsin, but they turned him into a Tight End, which they already had, Graham and Kendricks

You don't get too many blue chippers here in Wisconsin

I'd say in order:

Reggie Williams
Kasen Williams
Taylor Mays
Jake Locker (best if you count baseball)
David DeCastro
Stephen Shilling

Let me add Jonathon Stewart before someone takes me to task.

According to the people on scout.com the best player they ever scouted in UGA was LB Tray Blackman who went to Auburn for a few years.

Might as well throw Herschel Walker in there, he was good enough to cover all the decades.

Oklahoma

Probably Ryan Broyles, he was a 4* coming out (went to my HS). There's also Alex Ross from Jenks, OK who was the #12 RB out of last years class. Committed to OU.

Yes, and no. He went to school at Carl Albert but then transferred to a school in Lincoln during his senior year. So originally yes, but he didn't graduate from a school in Oklahoma. I guess he played his ball in Oklahoma but didn't actually finish up.

I forgot all about him though, I was just thinking local in Norman.

Austin Haywood was another big name coming out of South Moore High School in Moore, Oklahoma. He became very lazy from what I heard from people I know who play(ed) football at OU/have parents in the AD department and eventually quit and transferred to a local CC to just do school. Had some potential for a TE, but didn't do anything with it. One of the best just "pure athletes" coming out of HS, he was in my graduating class and I watched him play basketball too against my school. Very good at basketball as well.

Probably would put Beckum's Oak Creek teammate Raymond Henderson on there too. Didn't do anything in college but was a pretty decent DE recruit. Also Rhyan Anderson and Brian Calhoun from earlier years from Oak Creek as well.

Looking at Rivals it had Justin Ostrowski as a 5 star DE (#2 positional, #22 national) from Portage in the class of 2003 who ended up going to UW, but I couldn't remember him at all. After a little research, looks like he had to quit football before his JR year due to knee injuries. Tyler Donovan and Joe Thomas were 4 stars that year, as well.

A lot of the "big time" recruits from the state have been disappointments (other than Thomas, Beckum, and Calhoun to a lesser extent), but a decent number of guys that end up being quality players by the end of their careers.

Technically he does not count because he's from Staten Island,NY

Percy Harvin-Landstown HS-Virginia Beach,VA
Percy has been the biggest thing to come out of VA on the HS level since Ronald Curry.
Pretty soon it might be Da'Shawn Hand. Number one player in 2014 class.

No way he passes Percy Harvin, and I think he already lost his #1 overall rating on at least one site.

Looking back at Rivals Florida rankings and realizing a TON of five stars from the state have disappointed (this is my homestate too, not being a hater). Torrey Davis, James Wilson, Marcus Forston, Matt Patchan, Ray Ray Armstrong, Jacobbi McDaniel, Fred Rouse, Demetrice Morley are just a few since 2005 that I feel didn't live up to their five star status in college.

In terms of the best player to come out of the state? In the Rivals.com era I would have to say it has to be Trent Richardson in my opinion. There are few other players that I recall when they were coming out it being a huge deal. Here they are.

2006 - CJ Spiller, RB, Lake Butler, Clemson
A player whose recruitment I didn't follow but went back and read about was CJ Spiller. All the big schools were in on this guy, USC, Florida, Clemson, Florida State. How he ever got out of the state of Florida is something I will never understand. Him choosing Clemson over Florida and FSU has to be one of the biggest recruiting surprises ever.

2007 - Noel Devine, RB, North Fort Myers, WVU
Devine was the first player that I can remember watching his highlight tape on YouTube, and to this day I am still amazed by it. He really was perfect for Rich Rodriguez's offense at West Virginia, unfortunately he only got to play for one year under Rodriguez. I thought there was no way he would be at WVU for all four years.

2008 - Patrick Johnson (Peterson), CB, Pompano Beach, LSU
I remember there was so much hype around him when he was in high school and his recruitment was very fun to follow. Specifically I remember him going to the famous USC Rising Stars camp in the summer of 2007 and putting on a show. His display there was so impressive he moved up to the number three overall ranking in the next edition of the Rivals 100.

2009 - Andre Debose, WR, Seminole, Sanford, Florida
Like Devine I first learned about Debose because someone posted his highlights on YouTube and they began circulating the internet. I remember him being so damn fast. He'd be surrounded by defenders and you'd say "there's no way he's getting out of that" and sure enough he would go into the fifth gear and run right past them. It's a shame how injuries have hurt him while he was at Florida. He really was the perfect person to succeed Percy Harvin at Florida. He still has a year left and I'm pulling for him.
