But with all the draft prep and such, I can't imagine most players in that situation are exactly knocking it out of the park academically. I would assume most players in that situation end up taking a quarter/semester off anyway. And what about players on the roster bubble? A few missed weeks of off-season work could have a major impact on a player fighting for a spot.

Anyone think that TERRELL MANNING could be the biggest surprise on the Packers this year?

We are all more than capable of finding a player's name in a sentence.

Is Franklin even taking classes this quarter, though? Or did he take the quarter off to prepare for the draft?

It seems like some players in the past have had to sit out camps even though they weren't taking classes.

I know Manning had trouble adjusting to the NFL, especially the mental aspect of the game. If he can have that ironed out to the point where's he's not thinking so much on the field, then he'll be able to contribute this year.

LB Nate Palmer and OT David Bakhtiari have signed their rookie contracts

edit: RB Johnathan Franklin did as well

should hear news about a few more today as well

Datone Jones also said he weighs 285 lbs and will remain in the 285-290 lbs area.

I like the rookie salary slotting, never have to worry about a guy needing to be signed by the time TC starts.

This article over at Packers.com indicates that he graduated already. If so it shouldn't be an issue. Someone is either mistaken or mixing up Franklin and Jones.

Realizing that in Perry-Jones-Raji-Matthews we have 4 first round picks on the defensive line...

I really hope this unit steps up. If we can get a decent amount of production out of Perry and Jones can be the inside force Cullen Jekins used to be, our defense could really turn a corner this year.

The interview on packers.com.

Just how enthusiastic he is about football and playing for the Packers. It's great to see. Jones is kind of the same. Both the UCLA kids are great.

Even though I wasn't thrilled with the pick at first. I saw a story ESPN ran on Eddie Lacy. Kid lost basically everything when Katrina hit and he realized his only way out was football. I want him to succeed not only for the Packers' sake but for his family.

LOVE Franklin.
LOVE Lacy.

But don't sleep on the LITTLE MAN either>

Despite running behind a pretty shihty blocking OL, he did well down the stretch and in San Fran. If they block better now with this revamped OL, he can be a weapon on his own right.
That's whether he is the best back we got, or the third best back we got. Injuries are always a factor, it's just nice knowing we have 3 legit guys there now. And I still like Alex Green a bit too.

There's positive reports about BJ Coleman in year two so far. I sure hope he can perform enough to take over Harrell.

Yeah Coleman looks good compared to the rooks.
But he better.
Remember, coaches raved at Graham Harrell's progress a year ago also.

Shouldn't be hard for him to be better than Alex Green and James Starks. Not sure if we'd keep him over DuJuan Harris though. Maybe he makes the practice squad or we keep 5 running backs or just tell Kuhn to **** off.

I don't want Kuhn on the team anyways given that he really provides the team with nothing so if he's released, that would be great.

His family provides me with a little something though, so there's that.... give Johnny one more year, as the Packers come down here to Dallas again this season.

He has a cult following among fans, but I agree. Only thing he provides is reliable pass protection but the problem with that is he is not a real threat out of the backfield. Yes he has good hands but any defensive coordinator is going to let Rodgers dump it off to Kuhn for 4-5 yards and consider that a win. He isn't a threat to take that dump off and do any real damage between the 20s.

I'm really excited about watching our team this year. I feel like it'll be the most fun overall style of play we've had in a while.

Our Super Bowl team was fantastic to watch defensively and when the offense showed up on a roll, but there were so many offensive struggles overall that year that it was quite irritating at times.

The 15-1 team was obviously dynamite to watch offensively but channel surfing level when the defense was on the field.

I think this team won't be as explosive offensively as that 15-1 team but I think they'll be more efficient and I really believe the defense will be closer to that 2010 level. If Datone Jones brings 80% of what we hope and Perry is even a slightly above average 3-4 OLB, I think we'll be right there. We have pieces. The Dline of Raji, Pickett, Jones, Neal as our top 4 is pretty darn good. Our linebacking core with Matthews, Bishop, Jones, Hawk, Perry sounds nice to me as well. The only question amongst the defensive backs is the strong safety, but I think Jennings and McMillian were serviceable last year and one of them will make strides.

I'm excited for our running game and to see some of the pressure taken off Rodgers.

I think the Packers upside is as good as any team in the NFL. Does that mean they'll be the best team this year? No. But they have as good of a shot as anyone, I think. The exciting part is our best players are all young. Rodgers, Matthews, Raji, Nelson, Cobb, our entire Oline, Heyward, Shields, Jones, Bishop, Perry, James Jones, Burnett. Those guys are all under 30 and practically all of our best players.

Such a young team but still experienced. GO PACK!
