Default Ahmad Brooks possibly facing assault charges?

I don't know if Brooks has had any other problems since coming into the NFL. Who knows, maybe this gets dropped altogether. How much would the 49ers miss him? Discuss...

Brooks really hasn't been a huge problem since he's been in the NFL. Not with the 49ers at least. As for this story, the dude isn't even pressing charges.

If this happened last year it would've been devastating. I don't mean to diminish Brooks' abilities at OLB because he's often overlooked, but the team has much more depth at the position entering this season. Parys Haralson, Cam Johnson, Corey Lemonier, and Dan Skuta are all available this year. None, last year.

True, we were really hurting at OLB. That being said, Brooks is one of our best players on defense and a difference maker.

We'll see what comes of this, but I get the feeling it's just going to blow over.

The District Attorney can file charges if they choose to. It already looks like they're back-pedaling from the warrant that was issued earlier today...

A warrant for the arrest of San Francisco 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks was filed in error, Santa Clara County Assistant District Attorney Karyn Sinunu-Towery told NFL.com on Wednesday.

"It was a complete fumble on our part," she said.

He was a bad egg at UVA, which is why he went in the supplemental.

I know, but because of the back-peddling I think nothing most likely comes of this.

This is true. It had been remarked that the he had really changed his life around following the death of his father a few years ago.

Perhaps this was just a terrible mistake and he fell off the wagon a bit. Or perhaps he hasn't made any of the changes he was believed to.

No justification for what he did, but I'm glad this occured in on his own property and he and/or those around him were smart enough to provide a DD in the first place.

Yeah, and I just saw that this had already been discussed with little fanfare on a different thread

If the 49ers are using Dan Skuta as a 3-4 OLB they are really stupid.

Or the opposite. I have very little reason to question the personnel moves they've made the last few years.

He's played every LB position now in both even and odd fronts.

Seeing as he has never lined up in a 34 defense and the fact he has no pass rush moves and can't shed blocks and gets swallowed up by OL. If they play any where outside of Special Teams they have real problems with their LBs. The Bengals LB starters are not great and they LB depth is **** and they did not even try and keep him.

Hey sometimes one man's trash is another man's treasure. Doesn't matter too much. He'll probably be regulated to special team's anyways.

Lemonier was a steal for the Niners dammit.
They were the last team I wanted to get him.
Watch and see......

By the way, I have read accounts of this story, and Brooks is an asshole.
The other guy was doing all the right things, which isn't easy with tough guys normal, but here's a tough guy NFL big man.

And this is how the good character guy gets rewarded?

I wish he would file a civil lawsuit against Brooks and get the help of MADD behind him.

Where's Josh Brent at now?

I agree about the drinking and driving comment. Brooks allowed Divens to drive. The fight occurred after they'd returned home from the bar. No excuse for his behavior, but at least cooler-heads prevailed in regards to a DD.

Quote:
For British Olympian Lawrence Okoye, his introduction to American football has included something Okoye likely didn’t expect.

Per multiple reports, Okoye (pictured) and fellow undrafted rookie Michael Purcell witnessed linebacker Ahmad Brooks repeatedly (allegedly) bash teammate Lamar Divens in the head with a beer bottle on June 8.

As to the three guys in the quartet who didn’t sign a multi-million-dollar contract in 2012, the dilemma is clear. At a time when they’re trying to make the cut from 90 to 53, causing problems for the team could cause problems for them.

That’s likely why Divens, a practice-squad player in 2012, decided that pressing charges “would be bad for both of their careers.” Bad for Brooks, because he’d be facing discipline from the team and the league. Bad for Divens, because there are plenty of other guys who can do what he does — guys who haven’t helped make a mess for the organization.

None of it matters if Santa Clara prosecutors choose to take a cue from the college-town playbook and look the other way when a member of the popular local football team gets in trouble. The difference between the Bay Area and Gainesville, however, is that the local media won’t look the other way, too.

And now that the issue has landed on the radar screen of the national media, a decision not to charge Brooks for beating up someone who was trying to keep Brooks from driving drunk likely will be met with widespread criticism.

That's the price of keeping it real... real dumb. I read or heard, can't remember, about life time bans. They should start doing that. If you or I did this in the public or private sector our employers would fire us. Even simply stuff as Twitter updates that an employer deems inappropriate can lead to termination. The NFL wants to be this ever growing brand that spans the globe. Fine, so then be very strict while you're at it.

You get arrested you are fired. This goes for GM, HC, and player. No more BS. At this point all these arrests are comical. So I would be a huge proponent of a life time ban. If coaches stress playing in NFL is not a right, then show me. Toss people out that can't abide by the rules of the NFL and/or society.

The 49ers like their backups to be very versatile. He's probably just getting reps as an emergency thing. I think Parys Haralson and Corey Lemonier will be ahead of him on the OLB depth chart as backups, not even counting Smith/Brooks.

Make no mistake though, Skuta's primary goal is Special Teams.

Fired? You mean like this, for this?

If this story is true, and why would it not be since it was told to police by fellow 49ers, then Brooks is going to miss some time this year as Goodell dishes out justice. Who knows if Brooks will get away with it legal-wise. A normal person would serve some time for what's reported.

Crabtree taken away.
Brooks should be gone for some time..... edge to Seattle now?

Investigators were told that Brooks was intoxicated and had threatened to get a gun, according to the statements.

A person who answered the telephone at a number listed for Brooks referred comment to the 49ers. The team said in an email that it was aware of the situation but would not comment for now.

Brooks started every regular-season game last season, finishing with 46 tackles, 6.5 sacks, an interception and two forced fumbles.

He signed a six-year, $44.5 million contract extension with the 49ers last year.

I'm sorry why is Brooks departure practically set in stone now? I thinking you're jumping the gun way too early in regards to this situation.

Even if Brooks and Crabtree never played a down for the 49ers this season, that doesn't mean the Seahawks have a significant upper hand. Maybe in the summer paper champs rankings though. I'm not sure...

Yup. The sad thing is she is on a show that has live feeds and goes live I think once a week. I don't watch the show. But there is no fine or suspension. Just a quick firing and move on. They did that with Paula dean i think or whatever her name is on the food network. You see teachers fired for posting stuff on twitter or FB.

I like it this way though. NFL is the employer and if the person gets arrested or does stuff that reflects poorly on their team, themselves, and NFL, then fire them.

Go play in Canada, or any other league. It's ok you can still be a football player, but just not in the NFL, the highest league.

LOL. This is a MASSIVE understatement.
Ahmad Brooks has always been one of those guys who's a bully who also happens to be a badass football player. The dude intimidated coaches at UVA.
