What's the story on Ramirez? I found this article from his Pro Day:

Quote:
He missed his first kick from 25 yards out, then made his next eight kicks before missing his second from 45 yards. He made one of two from 52 and apparently impressed the scouts enough that they decided to test him from 55 yards out. His first kick bounced off the pole, off the net and off the pole again (Brown said it would have been good) and his second cleared easily.

"It was a little more than what I expected, but I'm happy," he said.

Apparently he goes by Zach Brown? Am I reading up on the right guy?

His stats aren't anything to write home about: http://www.draftcountdown.com/Scouti...Zach-Brown.php

Zach was one of the better FCS kickers in the nation and then sustained an injury, which killed the momentum he had going with his stock coming out school. From what I know, he has a strong leg and is seemingly a better fit to compete for the job than Giorgio has been.

He's not Mason Crosby, so I approve

Kicking competition at todays practice

Crosby - 10/11
Tavecchio - 9/11
New Guy Ramirez - 10/11

Crosby and Ramirez both made kicks from 60 and 63 yards(wind was at their backs during the whole competition)

Jordy and Cobb returned to practice today, though both didn't really do much and it was in shells. MM did say both have a chance to play this week(Wish they won't, they already had Hayward re-aggravate his hammy after playing him so soon after he returned)

And here's my final 53 man roster prediction

QB: Aaron Rodgers, Vince Young
RB: Eddie Lacy, DuJuan Harris, Alex Green, Johnathan Franklin, John Kuhn
WR: Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, James Jones, Jarrett Boykin, Jeremy Ross
TE: Jermichael Finley, Andrew Quarless, Brandon Bostick, Ryan Taylor
OT: David Bakhtiari, Don Barclay, Marshall Newhouse
OG/C: Josh Sitton, EDS, TJ Lang, Greg Van Roten, Lane Taylor

Offense: 24

DL: BJ Raji, Ryan Pickett, Datone Jones, CJ Wilson, Mike Daniels, Johnny Jolly
LB: Clay Matthews, Nick Perry, AJ Hawk, Brad Jones, Robert Francois, Andy Mulumba, Sam Barrington, Mike Neal, Dezman Moses, Nate Palmer
CB: Tramon Williams, Sam Shields, Casey Hayward, Davon House, Micah Hyde, Jarrett Bush
S: Morgan Burnett, MD Jennings, Jerron McMillian, Chris Banjo

Defense: 26

K: NOT Mason Crosby. Zach Ramirez for now but who the hell knows
P: Tim Masthay
LS: Brett Goode

Specialists: 3

Sherrod, Worthy go to PUP. Not sure what happens at RB now with DuJuan re-injuring his knee. He said he's fine and Ian Rapoport reported that it's not believed to be serious, but who knows how long he's out with that

TE was probably the hardest position to guess. I believe Taylor and DJ Williams both are good on ST, Taylor moreso.

IR: JC Tretter, Bryan Bulaga

Practice Squad

Just taking a stab at some guys I think they'll try to keep

QB BJ Coleman
C Patrick Lewis
WR Charles Johnson
WR Kevin Dorsey
DT Josh Boyd
CB James Nixon

Possibly one of the stupidest things I've heard on this forum. One game against a top 3 defense in PRESEASON and your ready to call it a failure. Obviously Bulaga going down was not part of the plan so that doesn't help things. Make a judgement when meaningful games have been played. Everybody was sooooo high with the running game against the Rams but now sooooo low after the hawks game. Wait and see.

I don't care if it is practice, preseason or the Super Bowl, when a unit goes out there and performs like that it leaves plenty of room for concern. Seattle is a top echelon team in the conference so we need to have success against them; St. Louis is comparatively irrelevant.

Sure you can be concerned but you were asking if its time to call the switch a FAILURE after one very poor game. That's overreaction.

I didn't like the move to begin with so last night's performance validated my feelings to this point.

LOOK, let's be honest here.
Our OL has been crappy for quite sometime.

I don't think Campen ever fully learned the nuances of the zone blocking scheme.
I believe had we had Alex Gibbs, this would have been a whole different story.

True, thanks to what else, injuries, we've lost our 2 highest-picked offensive linemen, again and again. So the talent level is less than planned.

That performance vs Seattle the other night was as bad as it gets.

It was like a high school OL trying to block the Bama defense. That's what you would see.

I watched Houston's OL work today... those guys know what they're doing run blocking.
They made an undrafted RB Foster into a superstar, and they make Ben Tate look like a top notch NFL starter too.

Everyone is complaining about the o line but they had harrell at qb. He doesn't scare ne one if a rod had played a bit more the holes would open up bec there scared of him as a passer. Its preseason everyone just chill out

We will revisit this conversation then when San Francisco kicks our offensive line's ass and they play far more physical than we are capable of.

I don't think we can write off the OL yet, I counted two times when D-Harris was in and he stumbled on a cutback only to gain a yard, when he could've had much much more. Also, when Lacy went in, it was our 2nd team vs their first team. Also, if Bakhtiari doesn't get hosed on the holding call, Lacy has a nice gain.

I was kind of disappointed that we didn't get to see much of Arod, as he makes a huge difference in our run game, especially when it comes to draw plays.

Lastly, I am impressed with the physicality of our defense and our aggressiveness. I really hope this isn't just a mirage as a new season is upon us.

TOTALLY agree with that.
It's not all Jolly, but I like what he brings to the table. That's some swag, like the Niners and Ravens defense has had.
We need that.

Him, Matthews, who else brings it?
Mike Daniels does.

MIKE DANIELS!!!!!

He cracks me up. He is always at the pile and getting into scuffles.

Surprisingly, well maybe not a surprise, but AJ looks pretty decent, he really slimmed down and he plays with a nasty attitude.

Also, Banjo, Hyde, McMillian all play with a little nastiness to them.

Bring on SF - I am done with preseason, and I hope Clay, Arod, and any other key player do not play in the last game.

Mason Crosby is so going to be our kicker again this year. ****. McCarthy was quoted as saying Mason had his "Best day" when asked if the little kicking drill clarified things.

Great, Crosby can hit in practice (well, sometimes. Not even 80% of the time but sometimes.) We all know he can't handle the pressure of actual game kicks. It's such crap.

This Ramirez kid seems legit. He has a booming leg and would have been a draft pick had he not shredded his kicking leg his senior year. But he looks healthy now. Hopefully he gets some kicks against KC and nails them; if he hits 2 or 3 beauties in a game situation, I can't see us cutting him with Crosby being so iffy.

Packers cut Tavecchio. That was obvious. Dude was never really much of a threat with his weak leg, despite kickign pretty well

I'm still holding out hope that Crosby will not be the kicker

Teams apparently are inquiring about a TE from GB. Bostick drawing interest. Personally, I hope they keep Bostick and trade DJ Williams, if possible

Becoming a team that can run effectively is more then just saying "okay lets start running". It takes time. Lets revisit this in December, when we will need to be running effectively and see where we stand.

I thought we were starting to take those steps at the end of last year. Then we decided to swap the guards because the coaching staff felt it was in the best interest to have Sitton on the left side to protect Aaron more. We addressed the running back position to try and improve the running attack but the reshuffling of the line does not set us up to be a better running team than what we were becoming at the conclusion of last season.

I can see what your saying but the coaching staff obviously didn't know Bulaga would go down and playing a 4th round rookie just isn't the same. Our run game WOULD be better with Bulaga and Sitton on the left then with Sitton and Bahk. ISitton being on the left means Aaron stays off his back more then last year I consider it a success.

Add another to IR

DuJuan Harris is done for the year with his knee injury he sustained in the preseason game. They have not discussed whether to place him on IR/designated to return

Edit:

Quote:
Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet 2m

Checked with league. If team puts a guy on IR now, can't make it short-term later RT @MarcusBlumberg: @RapSheet Is he designated to return?
So, Harris is not coming back at all this season

Lacy/Starks/Green/Franklin/Kuhn is where this team is rolling
