Well at least we didn't sign him long-term.

Someone needs to sweet talk Richard Seymour into signing for whatever cap space we have left.

Here is one you can rule out: Nothing happening with #Bears and free agent DT Richard Seymour.

A quarter of the way through the season and you know who's dead last in PFF's pass rushing productivity score?

Our misused 3-4 OLB, that's who.

107 pass rush snaps, 5 total pressures. Gah.

Let's talk Cutler...

Don't like him. He is our best option right now. Injury to me is a good thing in his contract year.

How about this. Cutler signs a 3yr 36ish/yr contract. We draft a QB, develop him until we give Cutler the boot.

By draft a QB, I don't mean 1st round.

I say yes.

I'd be ok with that and I'd also have no problem spending a 1st on a QB.

I'd trade up for a good QB prospect. Let Trestman have "his guy".

mariotta, manziel, bridgewater, etc.

At the very least, it was a wise decision to not extend a lot of these guys. Should be a tremendous amount of turnover in the next year or two.

Dear God Josh McCown has been good. Marc Trestman is a genius. I realize there's no way we don't start Cutler when he's healthy, but I wouldn't shed any tears if he's not ready next week.

No Bears talky around here anymore.

Well let's have a look at 2014 from a cap perspective. I'm going to assume that we either cut Peppers or ask him to renegotiate. Sunday's dominate performance aside, he's on the books for 39 million dollars in cap money over the next two seasons and that just doesn't fly.

Cutting Peppers would create a lot of dead money (8 mil), but we could cut him after June 1st and spread that over two seasons. I'm not sure we'd need to, but we could. That said it would free up either 10 or 14 million this year and 16 to 20 million next year. Sorry Julius but that's a no-brainer.

Let's assume we split the difference after June 1st. That's 4 million on the books for Peppers' contract.

Then we're looking at:

Marshall- 9.3 million
Forte- 7.6 million
Bushrod- 7.4 million
Briggs- 6.5 million
Bennett- 6 million
Shea- 2.3 million
Long- 1.9 million
Podlesh- 1.8 million
Alshon- 1.2 million
Paea- 1.2 million
Bostic- 900k
Conte- 800k
Greene- 600k
Mills- 500k
Washington- 500k
Frey- 500k
Bass- 500k
Wilson- 500k
Ford- 500k

That's our core. The good news is that core only costs the team 53.5 million. The bad news is that it's only 19 players.

I think it's a given that Bush gets cut. We'd only save 1.8 million, but he sucks, so who cares. That would add another 2 million of dead money, putting the team at 59.5 million.

I'm not sure if we keep Earl Bennett or Eric Weems. Neither play costs a lot, but neither player really adds anything that a cheaper and younger player wouldn't do. If we keep them it's about 4 million. If we don't we save almost all of it. Whatever.

Add in six draft picks at about 4 million and we're up to 25 players at 63.5 million dollars.

Assuming the salary cap doesn't budge, we're looking at 59.5 million dollars to spend for 28 players.

Money shouldn't really be an issue, but damn that is a TON of turnover in one season.

#rebuilding

It was bound to come at some point. I'm excited. Will take several years, but I am really looking forward to seeing the team that Emery can build.

Really don't know what the Bears are thinking at QB. I do know that Emery doesn't like to go into a draft being set in a position based on lack of talent or numbers at a position. Cutler has no incentive to ever sign a 3-year, 36 Mil contract. He gets franchised, or goes to someone that will pay him more than that.

CB is another position that is up in the air. I hope Tillman doesn't get Urlachered. But he's going to miss 8 games and only finish 3 this year.

The rest of the roster can be filled out pretty cheaply for the most part. Wootton, Slauson, Collins, Castanzo, maybe Anderson, maybe Ratliff, maybe Garza are easy/cheap signings. Can afford to address a couple positions with good FAs (maybe no big Peppers splashes) even if u franchise Cutler.

Here's hoping the Packers win next week to set up an epic showdown between the real two NFC North teams. You guys are my favorite villains. <3

Soooooo..looking toward next year here...

1) The McClellin as a 4-3 end experiment obviously needs to end. We knew he was never going to play the run all that well, but he hasn't been able to put pressure on QBs, either.

2) Peppers is a goner. He hasn't looked terribly good and his cap number is going to be ridiculous.

3) Tillman is either gone or coming back cheap, like Urlacher before this season. He was really bad before getting injured.

4) The safeties both need to go. Just terrible.

5) Jon Bostic is not looking like the answer in the middle for this scheme.

In fact, most of our defense is replaceable right now. We really have a clean slate, when you think about it. Kind of seems like a good time to make a run at Rex Ryan for DC and to let him do whatever he wants with the defense; give him autonomy, within reason. Stay 4-3? Ok. Switch to 3-4? Whatever. We've got nothing that's necessarily tying us to the 4-3 anymore. I know everyone's saying that their team should go get Rex Ryan, but yeah...

Id say Conte is servicable, an okay starter if the upfront is doing their job. I agree on Peppers and McClellin.

Give Bostic some time id say.

Tillman was decent before the injury, its just that he is constantly injured and we had no pressure whatsoever in the first few games.

The biggest thing is the DLine. If we get pressure, the whole defense does better.

So tell me honestly you guys;do you want Rodgers to start so you take our best shot? Or rather take the easier route with Flynntacular?

I'd rather the Packers get trapped in an avalanche and forfeit the game.

I'd prefer to go against Flynn but I think Flynn can do a good job still.
