I'm kind of more on that track. I don't really see anything besides a big arm. That's certainly worth a lottery ticket pick in one of the later rounds, but I just can't see him being taken early. Reminds me a bit of Ryan Lindley a few years ago...just at a bigger school with more talent around him. Some coach may like him as a developmental guy and take him a bit earlier than they should, but even then it likely won't be in the first three rounds.

I think a lot of the excitement about him comes from the trend that team's are following with athletic QB's that can run an up tempo offense. With guys like RGIII, Russell Wilson, Colin Kaepernick, EJ Manuel, and Cam Newton, and coaches like Chip Kelly in the league now scouts are getting excited about athletic QBs that can run an uptempo system that doesn't let the defense substitute, can throw the ball, and can also make plays with his feet.

He showed last year that he can run an NFL style offense since his coordinator is now in the league, and the offensive pace that Miami went at last year is similar to what some team's are moving towards. When you have arguably the best arm in the country, are athletic and can create plays on your feet, and can run an up tempo offense I can see why teams might be excited about him. He's very raw in some aspects of his game, but so was Kaepernick when he came in the league. I'm not comparing him to Kaepernick though.

Go to the 11:07 mark (or before if you want to see the whole drive, but this is Morris' freshman year filling in for an injured Jacory, down 2 with a minute left where he scrambles on 3rd and long for a first, then on the next play, drops in a perfect game winning TD pass with a defender coming down on him.

In his first two games of the season he's played against a garbage defense (where he would have had huge stats if his freshman WR could catch), and against an elite defense where he made some really nice plays, then the offense basically shut it down. In terms of just passing the ball, he's been inconsistent his entire career with ball placement and deciding where to throw it, though I think the latter has been over blown. He has an elite arm, with plus athleticism, and he has special qualities in the pocket and making plays after things break down. The game winner against NC State last year showed a lot of the same qualities as in the video above. There are a lot of qualities beyond just pure arm strength that go beyond just the part of plays where he is throwing the ball. To say he's just a big arm is simplifying an evaluation an insane amount.

DG Posted this in the Canes thread, but for those who wonder why people think he's a legit NFL prospect, it's throws like this that make NFL scouts and coaches interested.

Personally I'm not a fan of him. There's no arguing his arm strength and he has a good amount of athleticism but those are really the only positive things I can say about him. If he ever gets it together then he could be great but he has such a long way to go that I don't see that happening.

I get why people like him and if he does progress he can be a steal but personally I wouldn't take him with anything other than a 6th/7th round pick. I have him pretty far down in my QB rankings for this draft.

He doesn't have the best arm in the country and he's not in the same league athletically as guys like Griffin and Wilson

If he doesn't have the strongest arm of this class he's not far off. The guy has an absolute cannon. Also while he doesn't have RG3's speed he's shown he can get outside the pocket and pick up first downs on the ground.

These aren't his problems though. Even if he ran a 4.4 40 and could throw the length of the field I still wouldn't like him much as a prospect.

He doesn't even have close to the best arm in the ACC behind Logan Thomas (can't deny he has a howitzer even if he sucks at aiming it) and Jameis Winston's hand cannon.

Morris re-aggravated an ankle injury this week.

Wonder if he will be dealing with the rest of the season or even beyond (Senior Bowl)?

He didn't re-aggravate anything. He bruised it the previous week and since the game was in hand they took him out because it hurt, he never went to the locker room and fully participated today.

The reports I saw (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap200...s-georgia-tech) clearly stated "re-aggravated" but potato / potato. I guess the bottom line is that it's just something to monitor as it's been an issue for a couple of weeks now. Certainly hope he is healthy to maximize his stock and play in an all-star game. There is going to be quite a battle for those six quarterback slots on the Senior Bowl roster this year. Should be fun to watch!

Morris is fine, he's doing better than he was last week. Here's what Golden said in regards to him.

Quote:
On the injury situation, Golden said that there is "no comparison" from where QB Stephen Morris (bruised right ankle) was last week to where he is today. "We didn't throw him last week and he's out here throwing and running. So, he'll be fine. We've got to keep treating him and stay on top of it.''
via Miami Herald.
