A LOT of what happened to his reaction is tied to Christian in 2005. Christian was getting a lot of random face pops for bashing him on the mic, and Christian just got relentlessly buried/never got a chance for a proper feud with him. After the semi-feud in July, he just moved right past him to Jericho and Angle, which just upset everyone.

Yea, there was a stretch of feuds he had in 05, all against 'fan favorite' heels, all used to establish him as THE MAN, all of which pissed the fans off cause their favorite guys were getting destroyed by Cena. And Cena wasnt that good in 05. He's improved a LOT, and starting with his feud against Edge in 06, he's been money, and totally worthy of his spot. So many great matches. WWE just hasnt been that creative with him, so he's stale/bland to a loooooot of people.

Okay, here's what I would've done with Cena during that time (hindsight, I know, but whatever);

Post Wrestlemania 21, John Cena is the new WWE Champion, purging the previous reign of JBL- who was basically reigning like the Honky Tonk Man but with much less charisma and even less satisfactory payoff (I'm considering having Cena squash JBL in WM21 juuuust to see if that gets a bigger pop).

Anyway, what happened next was there was a brief tournament leading up to Judgment Day to determine Cena's next opponent. JBL is one of the contenders, apparently from BEFORE the automatic rematch clause came into effect. And he wins the tournament to get the rematch, which becomes an "I Quit" match. Nice, effective, plays much more into Cena's strengths and makes him a more believable winner in that retrospect.

Also in the tournament is Kurt Angle. And here's where I'd deviate from the norm. See, JBL ultimately won in an arranged Four-Way Match between him, Angle, Booker T, and Big Show. Only this time, Angle would win. The same stipulation for Judgement Day would be utilized.

And the emotional basis for the Cena/Angle match is basically Austin/Hart from Wrestlemania 13. The Submission match that had Austin bleeding like a stuck pig and locked in the sharpshooter until he freaking passed out. Yeah it's a re-telling, and we know how GOOD the Creative Team has been at re-telling stories, but really, this one works the best for what we want.

In the match we have Kurt Angle essentially schooling John Cena on actual wrestling skills for the first portion of the match, perhaps even kayfabe-breaking his ankles in the Angle lock once or twice. But Cena won't quit. Naturally. Then Cena starts to brawl every chance he gets. Not wrestling. Just brawling. Making Kurt bleed and punishing him at every opportunity.

So they basically trade offensive blows and the like in a back and forth battle inside the ring and out. Heck, they can even use the semi utilized in the real match in much the same way. But the final third of the fight, you can have Cena with the smokestack in his hands, cursing and screaming and being genuinely insane as he has the tables turned on Angle, who looks ready to give up...

The have Angle kick the insanity up a notch by over-brawling Cena all the way back to the ring, and here's where we get Cena into a submission hold, a different one. Heck, go the full mile and make it a homage by using the actual sharpshooter move, trapping Cena to the canvas. But he won't tap. He'll scream and pull and claw until finally all the fight runs out of him and he's out cold.

Here's what that match will have done. It will give Cena a considerable ceiling to try and reach, it pushes Angle to his very limits and gives him the start of a nice run as WWE Champion, and unlike someone such as Batista, who was built from day one to be an unstoppable machine, it actually give Cena a foundation to build his 'underdog' image.

Ultimately, that silly Draft Gimmick still lands Cena and Angle on Raw, where Cena runs afoul of Eric Bischoff. Now, I don't like the recreation of Austin/McMahon here, because quite frankly Bischoff was only fit to be Vince's stooge. So the idea is to pull Eric back a bit, keep him more on the sidelines as he conspires to keep Cena out of contention for the WWE title by running him through the likes of Chris Jericho and even Christian. They key though is not to let Cena crush them immediately. No, even if the only believable way to beat Cena is through underhanded and dirty dealings, then DO IT. You're selling Jericho and perhaps Christian as the Mid-Bosses who can keep Cena down... until SummerSlam and Jericho's inevitable departure, whereupon Cena can finally triumph against the odds.

After Jericho left WWE, almost immediately Cena was attacked by Angle, who was also Bishoff's hired guy. Let's do this a lot different. Let's have Cena, who is now the challenger, directly call Angle out. And Angle accepts, despite Bischoff's protests. So here we have a period of the rest of the year to play out the Cena/Angle feud which got no room to breathe whatsoever in real life because the wrong man had the title the whole entire time.

There were three PPVs they feuded in. Unforgiven, Taboo Tuesday(with Shawn Michaels as a throw-in thanks to the 'fans') and Survivor Series. Unforgiven has to be a loss. It has to involve Cena still being schooled on the mat, and maybe even disqualifying himself by losing his cool. Taboo Tuesday needs to have Cena ending up blindsided by Angle because Shawn Michaels simply cannot be ignored (Michaels being Angle's dance partner while Cena fights with Jericho makes this match work for itself).

Now, where I am not completely clear on is whether the feud as a whole needs to be resolved at Survivor Series, or in the Elimination Chamber in New Year's Revolution. You could go either way, I suppose. But I think either way Survivor Series comes with a new gimmick for Cena, the ****. (It was a new addition somewhere around this time, and personally, I'd hold it for this match as a twist meant to surprise Angle) It wouldn't make Cena Angle's equal on the mat, but it would even the odds somewhat. Even that silly angle of Daivari as the special referee would be utilized, only in a different way, since he'll be Bischoff's guy, not Angle's. And in the end, Angle would be one to put Daivari down in order to put Cena down clean. Whether or not Cena wins, I'm not sure. Still, it's a great place to end the feud, with Angle keeping face by playing it clean and perhaps having the two of them come to a newfound respect for one another.

But if I waited until New Year's Revolution to settle the score, it would involve the Elimination Chamber like it did in real life, only Kurt Angle was actually the first person eliminated. Here, it would be him and Cena last left. And Cena's time is NOW. A blockbuster FU, the pin, the victory....

And here comes Vince telling us that Edge is cashing in, and you know the rest.

It's obvious now that a Cena/Orton champion vs. champion fued is on the way. Triple H will say that not only is Orton the face of WWE and what a corporation should want in a champion, but so is Cena and we should also be proud that he's the World Champion and is also what's BEST FOR BUSINESS!! Cena will say that he won the WC for himself and the C-nation/WWEUniverse, and not for front office types. And off we go.

And Daniel Bryan, even though he's the most popular performer in WWE, is sidetracked by the Wyatt family and still hasn't been WWE Champion for more than 24 hours. Stupid!

I don't think so. My guess is that if there is going to be a unification bout at Wrestlemania it won't involve Orton.

Look, I know it's the thing to do by the IWC to bemoan how poorly DB is being treated (never mind that this is the biggest push in his career), but if DB is being treated poorly, holy **** are they burying Orton. He's basically just there to hold the belt and do some poses while HHH gives a 20 minute promo.

LOL! So true! Triple H has basically taken over the role of Mr. McMahon.

Another funny thing is that we won't see Shawn Michaels for another year or two, and everybody will have forgotten about him heeling out at Hell In a Cell.

Strange that you mentioned that. After Right to Censor broke up, their leader Steven Richards went to TNA and had a brief stint as the evil psychiatrist of Abyss (TNA's version of Kane).

Well they're pushing Big E which I love. Also Reigns is going baby face like really soon. They should just break up the shield because Ambrose/Rollins are amazing wrestlers in their own right.

Glad to see the WWE is building around their young talent like Kane, HHH, and the Big Show.
Are Ric Flair and Bruno Sammartino still available for action?

Well, this didn't happen.

I think I remember Dolph Ziggler....... I think..... vaguely...

This. I love The Shield. I think all three of them could go on to have success on there own but no need to rush it.

I like Dean Ambrose the most but would not be surprised if Roman Reigns ends up being the bigger star or at least getting the bigger push do to his size.
