It's a shame for the Bucs because if they had even competent QB play they'd be a serious playoff contender.

That defense is one of the top-5 units in the league right now.

At this point of the season, who's on the hot seat?

Am I right assuming Mike Tomlin and Ron Rivera need to get something going quick to save their job, but that Mike Smith and Tom Coughlin are going to be okay no matter what due to recent success?

Will it finally be the end of the Gary Kubiak era in Houston if the Texans don't make it to the playoffs?

So, anyone have a good list of Assistants that will most likely be hot commodities for NFL head coaching gigs this offseason?

My top candidates:
- DC Mike Zimmer: I think it's about time he's ready. Has the attitiude that will whip you into shape, but from everything I read, the players love playing for him. Type of motivator and mind that will lead a team.
- Special Teams Coord. Rich Basiacia: Go the Harbaugh route/? This guy is a motivator and excellent all around football coach and knowledgable guy in every aspect of the game. Guys respect him. He's earned it.

Zimmer should be a HC by now with how he get his defenses to play. He must really not come across well in an interview. He is a gruff dude.

Ray Horton DC for the Browns. He is going to get some real hard looks this offseason and I would imagine he'll be a head man in a year or two.

Tomlin is safe.
The Steelers don't reshuffle their HC position all the time anytime there's a problem like many organizations do.

Plus he's gotten them to 2 Super Bowls the past 5 or so seasons including winning a ring.

Miami interviewed him and took Philbin instead.

I've said it before, he is like Schiano but the credentials to back up the attitude and demands. If you have a team of diva, soft dudes he isn't the guy for you.

Not according to most Texans fan. Kubiak did seem very predictable at times with his play-calling. Will be interesting to see where he ends up. I wouldnt rule out the college ranks either.

So it looks like Wade Phillips will be interim coach?

Don't see him giving houston winning ways and knocking them out of #1 this season. Wonder who'd they pick up.

I think he would be a good OC. The only reason he is so predictable is because Foster, Daniels, and Tate are out. I'm including Tate because he should be On IR with his 4 broken ribs. He hasn't been the runner her normally is. That leaves us with Dennis Johnson and he isn't the guy that is going to carry the ball 30 times a game. We have the ZBS so we have always been a running team and now have had to try and be shootout team. That has never been our style.

David Shaw will probably be the hottest name out there this off-season. And with Jon Gruden finally admitting he wants to coach again, he will also be in the mix. Its amazing to think Chucky is only 50.

To me the bigger question is if Houston will retain Wade Phillips at the end of the year, either as the head coach or continuing as the defensive coordinator. If not, that's going to be a much bigger pickup for some team as their new defensive coordinator than Kubiak.

I think he'd be a fine head coach.

Jay Gruden as HC
Bring in a decent innovative OC
Promote Gregg Williams to DC

That's fine, I doubt anywhere is going to give him a HC job and let him assume OC duties as well.

This is a really good spot for a new Head Coach. Hopefully they keep wade as a DC, he's just gonna crash and burn as a HC again. This team is easily back in the playoffs with a strong off-season.

My gut feeling is that the Texas job is Greg Roman's if he wants it. McNair has some level of familiarity with him as Roman was on the coaching staff from 2002-2005 in Houston. Roman seems like he would be the perfect fit, the Houston offense has been vanilla the past two years and Roman would have the ability to draft a QB of his choice and groom him to start in Houston.
