This is pretty shocking to me. Is it possible that was their preseason rating and that they hadn't updated it yet? Does he have any question marks off the field? I just don't see how a guy with his size and production could fall until the 6th round. I personally don't see him falling past the 2nd round even if he's only a marginal athlete and if he tears up the combine then he could sneak into the 2nd half of the 1st round. I just don't see how they expect to find better prospects in the 3rd-5th rounds.

Is it safe to say it's a weak draft for DEs outside of Clowney?

I'd say it's a pretty average class of DEs if Tuitt comes out. Clowney is obviously the big name but Tuitt is pretty close to a sure-fire first rounder and some people have him as a top-10 prospect. Then there are guys who could go at the end of the 1st like Trent Murphy and Kareem Martin. Also if Kony Ealy comes out he could strengthen the class overall. I haven't scouted the lower level guys though so I'm not really in a position to speak on the depth of the class.

I'd consider Barr next followed by Tuitt. They are interchangeable though in terms of order, depending on your style of defense and need.

Lynch and Murphy both intrigue me, at opposite ends of the spectrum. You have one low ceiling, relatively safe guy and then the opposite in Lynch.

Agreed on whoever compared Beasley to Irvin. WOuldn't mind my LIons taking him for that role. They struggle to get a pass rush from outside their front 4.

If we're considering Barr a DE then I think he's clearly #2 but I think his natural fit is at 3-4 OLB.

In my opinion Tuitt will be the clear #2 DE if he comes out. When he's healthy he can be borderline unstoppable and, as Scott pointed out, he's very versatile in terms of the schemes he can play in.

Lynch is definitely too light at this point. You can see the length and athleticism but he gets knocked around way too much for my liking. He's definitely a rare physical specimen though.

Shawn Oakman is an absolute freak. I'd be surprised if he came out this year though as he's still raw and he didn't have much production this year. If he polishes his game for next year and has a big year production wise he could be an early pick.

At this point I think that the only position for Beasley is as a pass rush specialist. From what I've seen he doesn't play well in space which rules out 4-3 OLB and even makes 3-4 OLB questionable. I just don't see how he can hold up on all 3 downs playing DE at his size.

Just a couple of thoughts on a few other guys I looked at recently

Jackson Jeffcoat has great technique and is one of the more relentless pass rushers I've seen. Unfortunately he doesn't seem very explosive to me and he has less than ideal size. I think a lot of his production has come from effort and I'm thinking he's the kind of guy who's really productive in college but just not athletic enough to excel in the NFL.

James Gayle is a guy who I kind of like. He has a great first step and is explosive off the line. His technique isn't as good as Jeffcoat and he has similar size concerns but generally when he gets sacks and TFL they come very quickly off the snap.

Chris Smith has a nice first step and he has quite a few pass rush moves that he uses. Unfortunately the only word I can use to describe his run defense is embarrassing. He seems to only give effort on passing downs and is more or less a non-factor in the run game.
