Justin Houston and Tamba Hali are obviously critical to what the Chiefs do on defense.
Will either guy be back to close to full strength by the Playoffs?

NFL BIGGEST INJURIES 2013
  1. Aaron Rodgers, HorseSchit team hasn't won since October since his injury
  2. Julio Jones, Falcons invested heavily in him, for good reason
  3. Vince Wilfork, the Big Man on the Patriots D, his absence is obvious right now as we have just seen Ben Tate run for 3 TDs today thru NE.
  4. Reggie Wayne, Luck and Colts haven't been the same since Luck tore Wayne's ACL
  5. Ryan Clady, Manning's blindside
  6. Geno Atkins, Bengals DL superstud
  7. Bryan Bulaga, season-ending ACL before season started, Rodgers blind side
  8. Brian Cushing, bacvk-to-back season ending ACLs
  9. Maurkice Pouncey, Steelers have suffered missing their anchor
  10. Dan Koppen, Manning's center
  11. Randall Cobb, was Rodgers best weapon
  12. Arian Foster, team was already going south when he ended
  13. Melvin Ingram, was going to provide Chargers pass rush
  14. Jake Locker, was coming on finally
  15. Sam Bradford, yes behind Locker, but close
  16. Dennis Pitta, they were counting on him
  17. Jermichael Finley, career-ending neck
  18. Henry Melton, Bears key cog
  19. Roddy White, was not himself all year, bad timing as he was needed
  20. Russell Okung, another 1st Rd LT, like Clady and Bulaga above.
  21. Sebastian Vollmer, see above

Who else am I missing that should be on this list?
edit: DOUG MARTIN

Mark Sanchize?
Brian Hoyer?
Kevin Kolb?
Ahmad Bradshaw & Vic Ballard, Colts
Luke Joekel
Dustin Keller
Harrison Smith
Patrick Robinson
Jerod Mayo
Chris Snee
Cortland Finnegan (one of the NFL's top-10 paid players this season)
Malcom Floyd

Where do Michael Crabtree and Percy Harvin fit on here?
Crabtree is back, for the important parts.
Harvin appears to be damaged goods and a good dealoff by Spielman in Minnesota.

Here's a team by team list.
Amazing the differences between teams when you look at season ending IR. http://www.pro-football-reference.co...3/injuries.htm

Hey JMike...

Joe Staley out with a right knee injury.

They're playing their #2 LT, #2 LG and #3 RG.

Can I now have excuses?

Steelers playing with **** at the Oline. I think only 2 starters from when the season started.

We deserve a pass.

Raiders had to play their #11 and #12 offensive linemen for a while this year.

Jared Veldheer
Menelik Watson
Tony Pashos
Stefen Wisniewski
Andre Gurode
Mike Brisiel
Tony Bergstrom

All out. And that was after they signed Pashos off the street.

Thanks for adding to the thread.
Whatever happened with Sculpted God OT prospect Bruce Campbell?

Dec 3 by Ed Werder | ESPN.com

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is scheduled to have scans performed on his shoulder Tuesday that should determine how much healing has occurred since he fractured his collarbone.

Team doctors will evaluate the results, discuss them with Rodgers and head coach Mike McCarthy. A determination is expected to be made later Tuesday as to whether Rodgers will play Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

McCarthy has said he believes the Packers need to win out in their final four games for a chance at the playoffs and they're winless in five games without Rodgers.

"There's a lot riding on this decision,'' a source said.

Sources in the organization have noted that the Packers' medical staff tends to be extremely conservative and there's concern that Rodgers could easily be reinjured if he returns to the field prematurely. (OH REALLY? NO SCHIT SHERfuckingLOCK)

Hey Ness & Phlysac, your horrible luck with injuries seems to be turning around.

49ers left tackle Joe Staley was able to participate in practice, according to CSNBayArea.com.

Staley suffered a sprained MCL against the Rams this past Sunday and there was some initial fear that he would be unable to go against the Seahawks this week.

Another CHEAP shot today, another star lost.

#1- Yes, the NFL is to blame. Their ridiculous rules against hits up high on defenseless receivers has caused some -SOME- DB's to go low into the knee area, tucking their heads down and launching into the knees.
The only reason the NFL has put these teeth into the rules is because of $$$$ with the concussion lawsuits. They haven't done this out of the -all of a sudden- goodness of their hearts. It's to protect their money. This non-profit corporation.

#2- Most guys still don't take these opportunities to rip ACLs and tibias, but more and more young punks do, like your Matt Elams and DJ Swearingers, among many others.
I saw on Thanksgiving, safety Charles Woodson of the Raiders had an identical free shot on a blind, defenseless Cowboy receiver up the seem, and Woodson kept his head UP, and simple tackled the guy as soon as the ball arrived.
He easily could have dived at the knee and ended that guy's play, game, season, and perhaps career.

I hate the Patriots. But I hate seeing anyone, especially a special star, lose their skills from a cheap shot. Yes I say cheap.
No, not within the rules.
But that hit is cheap because it does cause serious injuries.

Look, it's football, guys are gonna get hurt.
But there are techniques, horse-collars, spearing, these, that DO cause more serious injuries and they need to be legislated out as much as possible.
NOT to avoid lawsuits, but to actually prevent these skilled guys from losing their skills, careers, seasons.

The number one rule for "tacklers" has to be KEEPYOURFUCKINGHEADUP.
Stop tucking the head and coming in with the helmet.
Stay on your feet, stop launching low.

I grew up watching guys like Ronnie Lott, Dennis Smith, Lawrence Taylor... nobody used to "tackle" by closing their eyes, lowering their head, and launching their helmets/shoulderpads into players knee areas.

My condolences to Patriot fans because guys like Gronk CANNOT be replaced.
You can't just move on, next man up, from guys like that.

Keep your heads up you puszsy DBs! Usually safeties. Delmas that's you too.

TJ Ward's contribution to today's game was blatant PI through the whole 1st half, launching himself at the head of Edelman in the 2nd half, and going low on Gronk's knee in a situation where it was entirely unnecessary.

I learned a lot about Ward today, and none of it was good.

Why cant we just....tackle? Not dive at players' heads and knees in the first place?

Amen brother.
These are the guys I honestly want to see suffer neck injuries.

Why can't it be the cheap-shot artist instead of guys like Nick Collins, who's neck, career, ended on this play.

The sad thing is there are no fines, no penalties for these catastrophic cheap shot hits..... they are within the current rules. We need class action lawsuits like the head ones.

Here's how you KNOW they are dirty hits, despite what the current rules state:

Imagine you have 22 sons and you're raising them as football players. 11 on offense, 11 on defense.
Your kids are the tight ends, receivers, and backs running those seem routes.

You're not going to teach them to tuck heads and lead with the helmet, especially into the vulnerable knees.
You will teach them to keep their damn head up and see what they hit.

We say that, and when players square up to make a good tackle that's fairly high, and they get ran over by an offensive player lowering his helmet into them, they end up on highlight reels, and without a job.

Tackle however you can, just like the offensive player is going to do whatever he can to get past you.

Do it properly you won't get run over, and on the street.

^Here's part of the problem. Because of the lawsuits, football now is likely to flag this hit, and even a fine.

Gronk officially has a torn ACL and MCL.

That is an absolute death sentence to the Pats season. Who now with Gronk, Wilfork, Mayo, and Vollmer on IR are missing 4 of arguably their 7 best players.

The hit on Gronk wasn't dirty. It wasn't the result of a guy going low because of the new rules. It was a much smaller guy trying to tackle a much bigger guy. He just got a little too low. Ideally it goes to the hip or thigh, same result.

Obviously I would prefer a form tackle but in the case of this one I don't think it was anything bad. Just really unlucky.

And the offensive player isn't supposed to lower the head anymore but it is never called.

Bad news for #Cardinals DB Tyrann Mathieu. Tests confirmed not only a torn ACL but also a torn LCL. More significant than originally thought

Honey-Badger done.
That was not a cheap hit on Tyrann.

I still say 100% the hit on Gronk WAS cheap shot.
Tackle like a man. Receiver was totally defenseless, blind, when catching and turning.
Could have simply tackled him.
Or tried to light him up near where the ball was, mid-body.
But Ward took the p*ssy way out just like Swearinger and Matt Elam did.

On Jonathon Stewart next....

My only issue with it is that he could have taken him down conventionally pretty easily considering the momentum he had, and the fact that Gronk wasn't facing him head on. If Gronk has momentum coming towards you I can completely see going low on him, or if you need to dive at him to make contact. However, if you can't wrap and drag tackle someone with that kind of momentum on a completely exposed player, you don't belong in the NFL. Tackling that way is far from the instinctive way of hitting someone, he made a conscious decision to go low, and it was completely unnecessary and extremely dangerous which is my main issue with it.

Gronkowski's season ending ACL tear is the 40th of the season. That's as many as an entire #NFL team.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap200...us-knee-injury
Report: Jonathan Stewart suffered serious knee injury

The Carolina Panthers are bracing for the loss of Jonathan Stewart.

The running back suffered what The Charlotte Observer called a "serious right knee injury" in Sunday night's 31-13 loss to the New Orleans Saints.

Stewart left the game after Saints cornerback Keenan Lewis hit him low to snuff out a 16-yard reception.

]
Yeah but those guys were allowed to clothesline tackle you, give you that forearm to the head. Launch at you while the ball was in the air.

Different time, different methods. Players are just adjusting to the rules...err more so loophole, rather than adjust. They are playing within the confines of the game, just using what hasn't been ruled out. And probably coaching has a bit to do with it, plenty to do with it.

If the NFL can teach little league and parents how to tackle, why can't they do the same for their own players. because it hasn't hurt their pockets yet. Maybe this next competition committee can decide something...maybe not.

They already limited where your franchise qb cant get hit, why not move on to where a WR can get hit? Then we'll really be watching something else.

No it wasn't. It was unfortunate. But clearly not "cheap"
And I don't even like TJ Ward. At all.
But it wasn't cheap or dirty.

That hit happens regardless of era of football.
Ward - 5'10 200lbs
Gronk - 6'6 265lbs

He goes high he probably isn't getting Gronk down right away.
It was a freak play.

Have you seen 5' 8" MJD properly block 250-pound LBers?
He blocks em well, head up.
Darren Sproles at 5'6" has blocked guys almost a foot taller, and not dived into their ACLs.

Then there's a guy I love, Jamal Charles. He dives into the knee. It works for him. But it tore Cushing's ACL. But he made the block.
And JC didn't get a flag for it because it is within the rules. The current rules.

But isn't it interesting here: On interception returns, you often see flags thrown for when someone like the QB or RB is about to be blocked and they dive down low to avoid the big hit. THAT is called a penalty, in order to protect the knees of THAT running player. Strange differences.

Like I said, learn the proper techniques, how the game was originally taught, and you can do the job like Charles Woodson did on Thanksgiving in the example I mentioned, or like MJD and John Kuhn and Brandon Jackson do blocking.

Keep the heads up, it's simple.
We have to protect the knees of all players if possible.
Not just the QBs, but also the OL, WR, TE, RB, etc.
Stay on your feet.
