Everybody who meets Garrett thinks he's the bee's knees. Every supporter of teams he's coached can see clearly evident flaws in his coaching.

WHAT AM I MISSING THAT EVERYONE HIRED WITHIN THE NFL SEES?

^^The perspective of coaches and players. All we see is win totals and when he doesn't call what we think he should call. The life of a fan. At least he's in a do or die situation, cowboys will be much improved or he'll be gone.

Well Linehan has all the weapons in the world. Let's hope it manifests itself into a dominant offense. Welcome to Big D.

Somewhere Dez Bryant is smiling. Maybe he won't have to cry now, watching them go to Miles Austin with the game on the line. Well Callahan and Garrett not calling plays is a step in the right direction. They could keep him as OL coach or not but I'm glad to see him out as play caller.

Anyone else think that the vertical passing game might not be best for Romo going foward? Coming off of a second major back surgery and another year older, he might not have the ability to drive the ball down field like he used too. Not to mention a drop in mobility and time he has to stand in the pocket.

Never thought about that, but you bring up a good point. Coaching staff will have to adjust if Romo shows up in camp and struggles.

He might be the type of guy that is a really great personality. We only see him at a distance for a little bit of time, but we don't have any personal relationships with him. He could also be the type of person that can talk his way into anything. Kinda like the opposite of Mike Zimmer who is known for being poor in interviews.

Garrett could be someone that is so likable that everyone wants to root for him, but unfortunately his track record speaks for itself at this point. He's just not that good. I have no issue with Linehan, nor am I super thrilled about the hire. I just hope that he can help Garrett out the best he can because this is Garrett's team.

Well we know this... Linehan is 100% the result of Jason Garrett. Kiffin is 100% the result of Jason Garrett.

When Jerry let's his HC have that much pull that usually means all leniency is out the window. It's do or die time for Mr. Garrett and his staff.

Quote:
The Dallas Cowboys demoted Monte Kiffin, who was the team's defensive coordinator this past season, and they promoted Rod Marinelli to defensive coordinator on Tuesday.
Kiffin was given a new title -- assistant head coach/defense.
The Cowboys switched from the 3-4 to the 4-3 scheme when Kiffin was hired last year, but they finished last in the NFL in defense. The Cowboys allowed the most yards in franchise history and the second-most points in franchise history.
Injuries to key players played a role in Dallas' poor defensive showing, but Kiffin is the one who took the hit.
Marinelli was the Cowboys' defensive line coach this past season, and he was the Chicago Bears defensive coordinator for three years, from 2010 to 2012.

At the end of the year, yeah. But after Jerrah said everybody would be back, not so much. Also most thought Rod wouldnt agree to be the DC due to his loyalty to Kiffen.

I feel bad a little for Kiffin, but he got off easier than most would. When your team performs that bad it usually means that you're outright fired, but here they're letting him stick with the team in some role. I wonder if they kept him on like that to appease Marinelli. I'm glad that Rod is going to be in full control of the defense now.

This really is the perfect situation for Dallas' current position.

Linehan - OC
Callahan - OL coach/RGC
Marinelli - DC
Kiffin - The dude just wants to stay in the game and coach and he can do that without any pressure on his shoulders now. He's also being a mentor and sounding board for the coaching staff. Everyone's egos should be in check now with Kiffin's personality and energy.

Maybe we can get over the 8-8 hump after all! haha

I have to say.

If we keep Callahan(I'm still not sure if he will stay with the Browns knocking). I like our coaching staff just from a teaching standpoint. Both Callahan and Marinelli are VERY VERY good line coaches. Giving Marinelli the responsibility of the entire D is also a massive positive given what he did do with Chicago.

Finally I like Linehan calling the plays. I do wonder if we will be using his playbook or if we are sticking with Garrett's?

Very similar playbooks to be honest. Both have their roots in "Air Coryell" the major differences will be the utilization of the power run. Garrett likes to essentially put our goal line set in when we power run while Linehan likes to power run out of 3WR sets.

Either way we should see a more concerted emphasis on the running game which in turn lets us better utilize the play action passing game. We have way too many weapons to not be successful IMHO.

I saw Josh Brent get 6 months in jail, anybody think the Cowboys will bring him back after his sentence is over? He still seems to have alot of support from the team. If he started serving it now he could be back by training camp.

The person in me says no way in hell. The fan in me says probably. Jerry has a soft heart and has taken on plenty of 2nd chance guys in the past. With the team never saying Josh Brent is not coming back I'd wager he's going to be in training camp with us. He's still a very talented young man just one that repeatedly makes atrocious judgment calls regarding alcohol and driving.

That being said I fully expect AT LEAST a half year suspension from the commish even considering time served.

Your probably right. If it does go wrong then everybody is gone and JJ will probably go about hiring and retaining assistants, then looking for a Head Coach as usual. As some Dallas media says, "only with the Cowboys"

Only with the Cowboys.

Total dysfunction.

Marinelli to DC and Kiffin taking a backseat is an awesome move. Not sure where the dysfunction is.

The only potential for dysfunction that I could potentially see is with Callahan and whether or not he accepts his role. If he does, then I don't see dysfunction.

You guys act like NFL teams don't have a million coaches. What? Just because they are high profile ones, now there is a problem? Coaches are smart, team first guys. Coaches don't want to be known as team cancers. The fraternity is small and if they want a future in this league they know better than to be a guy that can't get along with other coaches.

It is dysfunctional. It seems like every year you guys are making coaching moves. Just fire Kiffin if he did a poor job. So you have an epically poor defense and you make him assistant HC? hahaha that's assinine in its own right.

Now another guy calling plays? So you guys go from Garrett to Callahan to Linehan? God Long live Jerry Jones!

Marinelli is extremely loyal to Kiffin. It was already reported if we fired Kiffin Marinelli would walk. Silly to think this is Madden and every move is unconnected. Kiffin is now a fiery coach who consults. Oh no the humanity the world is crumbling DAMN YOU JERRUH. Sarcasm if you didn't pick that up.

Garrett is an Air Coryell guy who was forced off play-calling by Jerry Jones. Callahan was hand-picked by Jones and was freaking terrible at play-calling. He's still one of the best in the business at coaching offensive lineman. Linehan is the middle ground. He's an experienced playcaller with Air Coryell roots and keeps Garrett away from play-calling.

Damn you Jerry for finding the middle-ground. Everything is all your fault. Unless we win that is.
