Announcement regarding the final day of free agency:
We've been working at a brisk pace so far, with plenty of time left to conclude the offseason before Super Bowl Sunday. However, one flaw which manifested itself was the lack of "priced" free agents which were signed relative to the free options which most teams gravitated toward; in an effort to get some of those players onto teams before the end of the offseason, we'll be taking three steps which should help.
First, because I believe that one of the primary culprits for some of the more expensive free agents remaining in the pool is a lack of funds, we're going to use today as another day to make roster cuts. I will only accept cuts sent via email, which must also include the savings for each player as listed by OvertheCap and the number of players which will be on your roster the execution of those cuts. If you have previously sent cuts after the deadline, you are required to send them again. I will not accept cuts via text or private message, or cuts that do not include savings or the number of players currently on roster.
Following the roster cuts today (the deadline of which will be at midnight EST), we're going to run one more day using basically the same system, although people will be able to make bids on the priced free agents. These won't prevent people from being able to buy the free agent for the listed amount, but if the player receives solely bids, they will be awarded to the highest bidder at the end of the wave. This is intended to be a corrective measure against the possibility of players being too high. However, some players will be locked in at the advertised price; these players will be denoted in red
. This is primarily intended to reflect an older player's willingness to retire if they don't receive a fair offer. All players who will be thirty-three years old at the beginning of the season have been automatically included, along with some others.
These two changes will be complemented by a slight reduction in the prices of expensive free agents to encourage buying. In summary:
- We will take a one-day break to allow for final cuts (emailed, rules above.)
- Following that, the final wave of free agency will take place on Saturday.
- Bids will also be accepted for "priced" free agents, with some exceptions.
- The prices of free agents will be slightly lowered to encourage signings.
