Suggs got a 4 year 30 million dollar extension 16 million guranteed. Not bs for a 31 year old with 1 sack the last half of the season.

Louis Delmas visited with the Steelers today. I know he's had some knee problems but we have a gaping hole at FS. He'd come in and start if he's not gonna cost a lot.

Talent has never been the issue with Delmas. It's health. You can't rely on his health.

While the idea that good FA's like Bennett or Tate will take a "hometown discount" is complete BS, the fact is that older veterans who have made their money and want a ring might take slightly less to chase a ring in Seattle. Burleson makes total sense as a guy to replace Tate and allow them to focus on other positions in the draft. Peppers makes sense too if he's cut.
Burleson would love to come to Seattle i'm sure. Not sure why they'd want him.

I'd like to see the Hawks go after Riley Cooper. Big bodied WR who can go up for a deep ball. Sydney Rice is going to be gone.

I'd hope they would also look at TJ Ward and Byrd if they are able to shop their services.

Is it not clear? He was clearly trying to say that Carlos Rogers resigned from his position with the 49ers in an interesting and nice way. He's now offered his services to the 49ers front office to help them not look for a cb right away. Duh.

Bad news for the rest of the league.

http://www.fieldgulls.com/seahawks-a...ft-free-agency

Seahawks just cut Sidney Rice to save $7.3M.

They're going to lose the following players:
WR Sidney Rice*
DE Red Bryant
DE Chris Clemons*
TE Zach Miller*
Probably RT Breno Giacomini
Probably CB Walter Thurmond III

*could come back on a smaller deal.

They'll actually have enough money this offseason to:

Tender Doug Baldwin at the 2nd-round level and either keep him for about 2M or get a 2nd-round pick for him.

Sign Golden Tate long-term.

Sign Michael Bennett long-term.

Extend Earl Thomas long-term.

Extend Richard Sherman long-term.

Sign another player such as Arthur Jones. OR use the remaining cap space to re-sign Walter Thurmond and Breno Giacomini.

And obviously if, say, they decline to sign Tate (which wouldn't be the worst move in the world) or don't extend Sherm (it might make sense to franchise him next year), they'd have even MORE to play with.

Now, if ETIII and Sherman are indeed extended, Wilson's also getting his money at the end of next year. So I highly doubt they'll be in as great a position next offseason.

But long story short, on paper, they'll probably be just as strong this year as they were last year. The narrative that "they can't keep all these players" might hold true when they have to pay Wilson, but this isn't the year the rest of the league is waiting for.

I don't see much rationale behind signing Tate to any sort of big money or at all really when guys like Thomas/Sherman/Wilson are coming up.

Well there's value in familiarity and he's one of the best PR in the league. He's got a rapport with Wilson too. You don't want to be starting a rookie at X receiver when you can win the Super Bowl. That's what they'd be forced to do if they can't re-sign Tate.

If you draft a WR and he becomes a good player, the vast majority of the time you are going to have to give him a huge deal or he's going to walk for a huge deal. That's the nature of the position. With Tate, the Hawks are in a good spot because he won't command "big" money (relative to the WR market).

And he's a good fit for the offense.

If a team offers him a huge deal, the Seahawks will let him walk. But that big offer may never come given his lack of stats and mediocre skill set.

EDIT: Also, they have the cap space to address that position this year. Why settle for, say, Jerome Simpson or Mario Manningham when you can spend more but solidify it with a guy you know can do the job, plus return punts at a high level.

I'm kinda hoping Sidney Rice manages to find his way to Chicago in order to complete the tallest receiver corps ever. Also because Sidney Rice had his greatest success with a quarterback who was one of the greatest gunslingers in NFL history and I see Cutler as that kind of quarterback, although not to the Favre level.

The Seahawks should be able to keep Tate and Baldwin, but Bennett is gone and no way they sign an Arthur Jones caliber FA. They'll sign their guys(losing Bennett,Miller and Thurmond) and look for a few bargains. Probably a DL or 2 and maybe a TE.

Seattle would be wise to not overcommit and just keep faith in the draft process.

Bring back guys who are worth it, everyone else can get replaced. They have draft picks and the draft is deep.

I read it quite well in fact. It has Bennett and Sherman taking FAR below market value deals first of all and second of all it has every player they sign taking backloaded deals with low 2014 cap hits. That makes no sense given all the big money deals they are giving out or will be in the near future(Wilson,Wagner,etc.). I just don't think Seattle is stupid enough to put themselves in cap hell in the future. They have good roster depth right now, guys from last year's draft who are ready to be plugged in and 6 picks in the current draft. Here's betting they stay the course and stick with their plan. They'd be very smart to take big hits on Sherman and Thomas(or at least Tate) in year one

Bennett will minimally get what Paul Kruger got. He's a better player, he's more versatile, the cap is taking a big jump and pass rushers are highly valued. There are also a bunch of pass rush needy teams with cap room, like Oakland and Jacksonville to start. I think the signs with Chicago, where his brother plays and where they are likely to cut Peppers and move Mclellin to LB. Either way, 5/45 is the floor IMO.

Sherman is incredibly smart and obviously thinks very highly of himself. There is no way he takes less than Revis, who he constantly talks about being better than(he isn't, but not the point). That man will bet on himself if it comes down to it.

If they do indeed lose Bennett, they'll have money to sign Arthur Jones and more. That's the math he laid out.

He has Bennett coming back on a smaller deal than his rep suggests. But Bennett isn't a full-time player, which affects his value.

Revis' deal is very unique because he got no guaranteed money. That's why he's making so much. He can be cut any time.

And the majority of deals are backloaded these days. That's just the business.

I don't really get your point. If they lose Bennett, according to Hsu's projection, they'll have an extra 5ish Mil to work with on top of what they would have with Bennett (which is enough to sign Jones). That won't get Arthur Jones? You think Sherman's cap number is going to be 10mil? Not in year 1 it won't. And that's if they extend him this year.

The guy knows the cap. I questioned him about Bennett and he seems to think his market won't be as hot because he's not an every-down player. Even if they do everything there minus signing Art Jones, then they could absolutely afford Bennett at whatever price he wants. And all of this included extending ETIII, but that he'll have the same cap number or slightly higher. The dude is a cap expert so I didn't question that idea.

Does this deserve its own thread?

This would have been the most shocking NFL story since Hernandez.

Probably complete BS leaked by the Browns to make them look a little less stupid.
