On a somewhat related note i'm sort of amazed at what little love there is for Tyler Gaffney. Good size, ran exceptionally well at the combine, productive.

this thread is so bad I'm surprised it's not in the NFL forum.

Jason Sehorn and Charles Tillman are probably the best white corners i can name off the top of my head.

in seriousness though, it's not as extinct as it appears, primarily due to the ever-growing flexibility of the safety position. guys like Steve Gregory, Eric Weddle are down there in the slot putting in time as CBs in certain situations.

Anyway yeah Bridgewater...well I guess it was only a matter of time before Sterling made this whole thing racial. I think the Steelers should take him.

Bridgewater had a bad pro day. But so did Drew Brees.

The point is that Brees turned out to be an All-Pro. Although the bad pro day at Purdue wasn't the only thing that kept Brees from the first round -- he came from a 4-WR spread and he's short.

With all this talk about Teddy B sliding, I wonder which Louisville Cardinal will be drafted first -- Bridgewater or Calvin Pryor.

Oh, I am not persecuted at all. I'm just fine in my life.

But if you don't believe white guys face more discrimination on the gridiron into college and the NFL, then you are flat-out blind.

And I would bet tons of cash that put both you and I on a polygraph, that you'd be proven to be A) more racist and B) less-educated.

I'd love to hook Sharpton and Barry and Jesse up to polygraphs and ask them some racially sensitive questions, same with DeMaurice Smith, Cam Newton, LeBron, Moon, McNabb, Larry Johnson, etc.

But enough about that.

Let's talk about what Affirmative Action can do for the white guy in the NFL.
Give them some jobs as NFL Cornerbacks.
The fact that ZERO out of 200+ are white, is purely racist. No other explanation.
Yet people look the other way?

But Warren Moon can throw out his BS race card about not enough bruthas are drafted high as QBs.
Really?

If you don't see it, you're blind.
If you accept it, then you're part of the problem.
I don't care which you are. But you're one of them.

Back to draft talk..... where's Jeff Janis ranked?

Can someone name a starting White cornerback from a BCS school??

You can't shoehorn White corners into the NFL if they aren't playing at a high level in college.

There's no quota for athletes in the NFL.

I think so too, if he can avoid injuries.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Tobey rush for @1400 yds next season for the Jags.

I'm taking him 1st round in fantasy. I've been waiting so long with him stuck behind AD for so long. The Jags are perfect because they have no QB and have made every indication. They will load Gerhart with carries.

Is there an institutional problem with young white players not being put at CB?

Oh good, I've been wanting the conversation to return to the extinction of the white cornerback.

A Teddy Bridgewater threads seems like as good a place as any.

I don't see how a lack of white CB's somehow makes the disparity of Black QB's relative to the % of players a less topical issue. The reason why it's not a talked about issue is because it lacks the cultural significance or negative connotations that a disparity of black QB's represents.

Like it or not Quarterbacks are both the highest paid and highest profile position in the NFL. They're paid multiple times what an average starter is paid, have the highest volume of jersey's sold, are put front and center for press conferences, and usually are designated the leader of a team (19 of the 26 teams with regularly designated captains have named their starting QB a captain).

Of this position we have 6 black starting QB's or 19% despite almost 70% of the league consisting of black players. All of those players would be considered above average athletes for the QB position. There is not a single starting black QB who ran a 40 time slower than 4.59 seconds. In a league where we have a distribution of QB's with mixed skill sets, some being appallingly unathletic the fact that none of the true pocket passers are black is somewhat telling.

Culturally African Americans are behind in terms of income and leadership positions. When the highest profile and highest paid position in football, a major cultural institution in America, is disproportionately held by white guys, it has more cultural relevance. The connotations by not having black QB's is a lot worse than the connotations of NFL talent evaluators saying that white players are too slow or not agile enough to play CB.

It's a false equivalence to compare the 2 even if discrimination is being applied indirectly in both cases. I think we're making headway here, but guys like Bridgewater being successful will open a lot more doors than a guy like Cam Newton or RGIII being picked highly and being successful because it'll show a black QB doesn't need to be a special athlete to be a good QB.

Didn't Doug Williams already do that? He was good in TB and won a SB with Washington without being a great athlete. He was basically a white quarterback with black skin color. Russell Wilson is the QB of the current champions but he is more of an athlete than a pure drop back quarterback. Bridgewater is more like Williams.

As for cornerbacks, I just accept the fact that they have to be black -- sort of like all jockeys have to be almost midgets. (That reminds me -- the Kentucky Derby is on Saturday, making a good opening act for the NFL Draft.) The only reminder left of the fact that there were white cornerbacks is when Jason Sehorn's wife Angie Harmon is acting on television.

I'm not sure if high school and college coaches are turning would-be white cornerbacks into safeties. Probably not, because there's not a lot of white safeties either. The only real good one is Eric Weddle.

You do realize Doug Williams was Washington's backup right you only played because Jay Schroeder got hurt late in the season? So more or less he is Jeff Hostetler in his Super Bowl win (also sparked by the most ridiculous one game performance in the history of the NFL by Timmy Smith). And to say he was "good" in Tampa is to remove all meaning from the word, he was 35-40-1 as a starter and topped out at a 76.8 QB Rating, which at the time was exactly in the middle of starting QBs in the NFL.

Good? No.
Serviceable? Yes.

And lost in history, he was the first black QB drafted the same year NFL/CFL HOFer Warren Moon went undrafted. Talk about one of the most botched evaluations in NFL history as Moon was a stud at Washington.

The Bucs won their only division title with Doug Williams and never sniffed the playoffs again until Dungy was hired.

Considering the franchise he was playing for at the time, I think it's fair to say Doug Williams was a good QB for TB.

The reason he was cut is because the Bucs didn't want to re-sign him for a deal commensurate with his ability and performance.

And always very confusing because race is often discussed as a reason Warren Moon was undrafted. Yet Doug Williams was a 1st round pick the same season.

The fact that ZERO out of 200+ are white, is purely racist. No other explanation.
If they keep putting white guys at cornerback, it will be a toast fest.

There are soooo many biracial players nowadays in the NFL, how do you parse them since we're counting how many of who is in the NFL???

I mean hell arguably the greatest cornerback to ever play the game, Rod Woodson, was biracial.
