Day One Grade
I give the Bengals a C for day one. Marvin has really got to make some day two magic happen (PEKO). I like the Hall pick but Irons not so much.

i give it an A, i dont see what the problem is with Kenny Irons. it doesn't fill a need really but he's going to be exciting to watch.

You have to include Ahmad Brooks in the grade and as long as he stays out of trouble, the grade would be an A+ - two high level first rounders and a productive change of pace RB. To boot, the two guys picked yesterday are high character team players.

I loved our day one picks Hall and Irons plus just like I C Deadpeole said Ahmad Brooks is a pretty good third round pick.

Kenny Irons is a guy that couldve been a mid round one type player but he got nicked up a little bit which allowed him to be around for our pick.

I just dont see Irons as addressing our needs. Thats what we should have done in day one.

Agreed. Hall was the safest pick and he's a damn good player, also a great compliment to JJ.
Irons I was PO'd at first but there wasn't a ton of talent left on defense worth taking at that spot. This will take some of the load off Rudi and last year our run offense was less than spectacular.
Hall pick is an A.
Irons is a D for need but A for BPA and if Rudi goes down he'll be huge. I still feel we could have waited till round 4 however I'm PUMPED with the Marvin white pick.
In a few days I'll do a little writeup on the entire draft, finals this week but after that it's clear sailing.

I've been reading the forums for a while, had to sign-up to view so I did and those of you who are saying this wasn't a good draft are crazy. We addressed some major needs.
1. CB-Definetly a need
2. RB-Line of defense went before so BPA and first round talent. We will all be happy if Perry can't get back in time.
3. LB - A major need with first round talent.
4. S - I'm not sure about you guys but this pick excites me.
5. QB - I think we could have waited til later to get this guy. but thats my only knock on this draft
6. and 7's. are obviously people with potentail.
I would give this draft a mid range B. We were screwed by the big run of defense in the 2nd round.

I think Hall may just be the perfect compliment to JJ (and I'm an OSU fan so I hate having another Michigan player), I believe he needs to be coached up a bit to play a little faster but I think Coyle can and will do that.
The Irons pick made my weekend. I love Rudi to death, but with no worthy defensive players on the board (and really, you show me the ammo to trade up) I think getting a home run hitter to team up with him and likely the best back from the SEC is just excellant. The kid is a gamer, played most of the games last year with nagging injuries (turf toe, hammy, and groin pulls) that likely just compounded each other but he knew he was needed.
You toss in the Brooks pick from the supplemental draft and I think we got 3 guys that could have been top half of round one picks!
I wasn't sold on Marvin White, I believe he's not the brightest of people, but again, I think he's got the right guy coaching him up and he'll bring an identity to this defense. We've needed a head hunter for a long time, and having one in the fourth round with good character to boot isn't something I'll complain about.
Rowe... I can't see the need for a 5th round QB but I'm sure the pats fans didn't see the need for Brady in the 6th when they had Bledsoe either. I'm not comparing this kid to Brady in any way, but I will trust Zampese to make this worth while.
Toeaina could prove to be a great pick a year down the road and it's not like there was a ton of value on the board at that point. All of his "problem" areas are fixable via coaching and I believe he's got plenty of upside. Lets not act like there are a ton of 6th round picks that are going to come in and start for (quality) teams in their first year, I like him considering Thornton, Robinson, Adams, and Meyers are all getting up there in age to say the least.
Santucci was a great pick at that spot in the 7th, he needs to pack on some weight/strength and gain a bit of an attitude but getting an athlete on the offensive line for depth in the 7th is how you stay under the cap when you have the big contracts on the line that we do.
Ndukwe... I don't like this pick at all. He's never shown me anything special, and if we were picking up special teams talent, I'll take a backup LB at this point (Earl Everret, Rory Johnson, Nate Harris...) over a safety when we have Jones, Busing, and Kilmer already in the mix. I'd rather have gotten a guy that has a chance of actually seeing a game day roster in the NFL in the next 2-3 years.
Overall, I give our draft an A-/B+ if you take Brooks into consideration, if not then it slips to a B-.
-Greg

im excited by most of those picks especially the first, second, and fourth. marvin white just needs to be able to cover the deep half and kill people every once in awhile, not much intelligence in that. plus he's got madieu out there helping him who is highly intelligent.

rowe also saves us alot of cap space over the next few years because hell cost alot less than a 1 year deal for whichever washed up qb wed have to sign to back palmer up. Worst case scenario we save a good amount of money each year. Best case, rowe develops into a matt schaub and we get a day one pick out of him in a couple years.

but that was a terrible pick! haha lol. he seems to have the tools to be a solid backup in the likes of matt schaub as you just said.
