Maurice Drew or Laurence Maroney?
Among RBs touted for their upside, Drew is obviously performing better then Maroney right now. However, who would you pick for the long haul?
Here are their statistics to date. Both of their first two games are excluded to level the playing field, as Drew was used very sporadically until his first breakout game vs. Indianapolis.
Maurice Drew - RB, Jaguars
Rushing
106 ATT/654 YDS (6.17 AVG) - 9 TDs
Receiving
31 REC/326 YDS (10.5 AVG) - 2 TDs
Laurence Maroney - RB, Patriots
122 ATT/473 YDS (3.87 AVG) - 3 TDs
Receiving
18 REC/188 YDS (10.4 AVG) - 1 TD
Come to your own conclusion.

Drew has had the benefit of playing the Colts twice. I think he is gonna be good but notice his two huge games were both against them.
What did Maroney do against the Colts?

I'll take Maroney. I love Drew but I like Maroney more as a feature back.

I was watching Mo Drew run today and I thought "wow he looks like a midget!" seriously watch the clips of him today. It's just because of how much mass is on his small frame, but it was hilarious watching him.

13 attempts, 63 yards, 4.8 yards per attempt average.
One catch for -1 yards.

MJD
23 KR 580 YDS Long 50
Maroney
27 KR 774 Long 77
Both pretty good, but I don't get a lot of Jacksonville games so I haven't really seen MJD :(

I'd take Mo Drew, he has been excellent this season, he has something like 1,600 all purpose yards, and is a major candidate for offensive rookie of the year while Laurence Maroney is also good, but isn't quite the receiver but is the better return man.

That's 25 KRs, 689 Yards with a long of 93. And one touchdown.

I remember I had them rated right next to each other on my big board last year ( I think like 32 and 33 or something like that), and as of now not much has changed. They're both going to be excellent backs for a long time.

Drew lit it up yesterday partly because he was going against the worst run D in the NFL and it wasn't the Raiders for once. I like them both, their both going to be big down the road.

The knock on all small RB's is that they will struggle in pass protection...Drew has been great in pass protection all year...the 1st game of the year he proved that to me when he knocked a rushing Roy Williams on to his side on a weak side blitz...
So I'll take Mo Drew

Anything said against Drew is trivial, because he has it all.

Maroney isnt getting enough credit. our playcalling, as you've probably heard, BLOWS. the plays are all Maroney inside and we have 8 men in box usually. however..hes 3rd in terms RBs in yards after contact..so considering contact usually happens at line of scrimmage because our OL isnt very good..that tells you a lot
Kirwan

2. How many yards can a running back pick up after contact? The top-five backs in average yards after contact are all significantly better than the 2-yard after-contact average in the NFL. The top-10 NFL backs with a minimum of 150 carries that make something happen after the first tackler strikes are Gore, Travis Henry, Laurence Maroney, Taylor, Cadillac Williams, LaDainian Tomlinson, Westbrook, Chester Taylor, Kevin Jones and Tiki Barber in that order.
|
i like MJD though and i admit hes looking better than Maroney right now..better than many RBs infact but Maroney deserves credit with what hes doing..no great threat at WR..inconsistent OL and horrible playcalling..we pass on Colts who were top 10 in pass defense against their deadlast run D. why not run it? Maroney was averaging over 4.5 easily and yet we kept passing. i hate Josh McDaniels btw..QB coach turned into OC = passing a lot and inside runs

Hooray another "look how good this guy on my team is" thread.
Drew was my 4th back going into the draft and Maroney was my 2nd. I'd still take Maroney over Drew. What Drew is doing right now is great, but Maroney was tearing it up before too.
