The Falcons should just commit to thier current coaching staff.
Keep Emmitt Thomas as Head Coach and go through next season with the current staff mostly intact. Focus on finding a new GM and improving the personel department. What's the worst that could happen? They can hire a new coach in a year if it doesn't work.

I know you from AFMB. I dont think I liked you too much...but hey. Welcome to NFLDC.
Emmit Thomas isnt the solution. Next year we will be out of contention because of this rookie coach. The year after that, if we hire a new coach, will be out of contention.
Focusing on getting a GM is a huge priority, but we need a HC to help this team become a damn team again.

Thomas won't be a rookie HC. He'll have 3 games and a full offseason of experience under his belt. :P
Besides, the Falcons are at least 2 years away from competing for anything regardless of who thier HC is.

I'd rather have Mike Singletary keeping most ofthe coachign staff (I justthink ET doesn't want it) and have somethign liek this:
HC - Mike Singletary (master motivator, knows defensive schemes like hte back of his hand and will help the entire team get up for games. I just hope he makes good halftime adjustments. Also, for tose that don't think he's a coordinator need to check again, he is the Assistant Head Coach in charge of Defense. fancy title for a Defensive Coordinator.)
OC - Hue Jackson (helps the WR's easy, a good scheme and I hope we can run his offense he showed against AZ a lot more)
QB - Bill Musgrave (knows his stuff about QB's and will help the mechanics o any QB easily, also a former OC who can help QB's learn how to read the playbooks and will be very helpful for a new QB we draft)
RB - Ollie Wilson (our RB's did fine if they had the blocking, that's more an OL issue than a RB issue)
WR - Billy "White Shoes" Johnson (He knows route running, catching and could help with returning during ST times, I like him in this lateral move)
TE - Keith Rowen (former Cards OC only left because of the Whis moving into AZ, I think he would be fine if Crump layed off the cookies)
OL - Art Shell (former HC, but he has the knowledge to give us a good run blocking scheme using his in-line blocking and his pass blocking is what helped us win the NFC in 1998)
DC - Mike Zimmer (I love his sceme though he is too conservative at times. He does do a lot of zero coverage blitzes and under Singletary I could see the team being more agressive, and the defense being amazing.)
DL - Jason Tarver (the token tag along coach. I think going from OLB's in a 3-4 to 4-3 DE's will be very helpful for us. we'll get much better pass rush and going from a defensive asistant spot that he's in to a full DL coach will be an ugrade for him.)
LB - Jesse Tuggle (wanna know a player Tuggle coached? Keith Brooking. I think he would be a great influence on our young LB corps and will allow us to have a Falcon great give back.)
DB - Emmitt Thomas (the DB's weren't bad and when a guy is looked at for HC spots from his DB coaches spot he must be a good coach)
STC - Jerry Rosburg
S&C - Marcus & Puloka

That might work too, but i'd worry that hiring Singletary would mean goodbye to Zimmer. Thier philosophies might not mix. If Zimmer would stay i'd be all for it.

I would not mind keeping Emmitt Thomas as the head coach but I'm not sure if Atlanta Falcons Owner Arthur Blank feels the same way.

actually, Singletary has been in all types of defenses. he could adapt to personnel. I hate seeing us bring in coaches that are abotu the scheme. we need to bring in guys to fit scheme to players. not vice versa. and Zimmer did that this year. Brooking AND Boley had 100+ tackles and Willims had bout 80. that;s not bad at all. Zimmer and Singletary woudl be fine together honestly. jmo though. I think Zimmer doesn't want to leave and will be fine with Singletary as long as Mike is good with him. plus the knock on Mike is X's and O's. Nolan is HS and DC there in SF. so Mike is a top D assistant. I don't see him having a preference for scheme. I also see us keeping Hue if we get Mike cause he had the same thing happen to him that Zimmer had.

lol. I swear, half of scar's posts consist of him naming the coaching staff he wants.

I don't think none of them will be around when we get a new head coach and GM.

I couldn't disagree more than I do.I like Emmitt Thomas, I really do, but this team needs a complete overhaul. The roster, as it currently stands, is not capable of winning. If you have to reload the roster then continuity is not important. That is why you need a new GM and a new coach to come in and remake the team as they see fit.

I didn't want to start an new thread and I thought this was the closest one to my question...
What do you all think of Zimmer? Would you call his defenses more conservative or aggressive?
I always think in your situation it's best to do a complete overhaul. It's not so much about coaching, more about perception. I just think it's hard to have the same coaches as you had in a terrible season and have a ton of faith in them. You can't go wrong with new blood on a losing team.

I would say he is on the more aggressive side.

With assistants like Zimmer and Jackson leaving, the suggestion I made with this thread is obviously out the window. Now it looks like Atlanta is setting itself up to get rejected by another big name...
