OLB Vincent Redd, Liberty
Does anyone know anything about this guy? He used to play defensive end for Virginia, but transferred to Liberty and played in the Texas vs. the Nation bowl game. He's got awesome size (6'6", 260), which is why I was wondering. This year, he had 63 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles. Can he play 3-4 rush linebacker, and where's his stock at? Sixth round? Seventh? Undrafted?

Honestly have no idea who he is...but sounds like an ideal candidate to be a 3-4 Rush LB.

Vince Redd was a pretty highly recruited player out of Virginia and he actually played some 3-4 DE as well as 3-4 OLB at Virginia. If I recall I remember him playing a lot more DE than OLB. He was expected to start in 2006 at DE when he got kicked out of school. At the time I remember the reason being a little cloudy. Some said it was academic reasons and other said it was for marijuana possession. Redd dismissal didn't get much analysis since UVa announced that Ahmad Brooks and team captain Tony Franklin had also been kicked out. Franklin had a marijuana possesion charge and most articles focused on Brooks and then said Franklin and Redd were dismissed too (hence why some believed Redd was dismissed due to drugs). Redd was actually on the basketball team too but I don't think he ever played.
Vince Redd actually started some trouble between Al Groh and Danny Rocco. Rocco was the head recruiter and assistant coach under Al Groh but left to be the head coach at Liberty (the same year as Prince left for K-State and Golden and D-Oferio{however you spell it} left for Temple). Rocco then enrolled a bunch of players who were not satisfied with playing time or were kicked out for academics from Virginia, one being Vince Redd. Al Groh felt like Rocco was giving these student atheletes an easy way out of getting bad grades.
Point is that Vince Redd was a highly recruited DE out of HS and played a lot of 3-4 DE at Virginia. He must have slimmed down a bit to move permanently to OLB in the 3-4 at Liberty. I really don't know much about his Liberty days though.

Coming out of high school he was listed at 6'7", 240 lbs and ran a 4.8 40. I know he bulked up a lot at Virginia and got much stronger to play DE. I'm not too sure about his speed though. He does know the 3-4 though since both Virginia and Liberty play the 3-4.

With so many 3-4 teams in the NFL, I think someone will give him a shot in the seventh

ammandss basically covered his history at uva. if i remember correctly, he somewhat ate himself into de. they were thinking of him as an olb, then he ballooned. seems like he's gotten that under control.
I think redd's pro position is as a 3-4 pass rushing olb. he'll need a lot of work as a 4-3 de, and it hink that may give teams pause to do that. as a 3-4 olb, he's quite tempting, with a lot of raw ability and an understanding of the scheme. his background will be checked out. i'd say he's a 5th-7th rounder right now that has the ability, with good workouts, to perhaps move up to the 3rd/4th range.

According to SI,
"He measured 6-6, weighed in at 263 and then turned in forty times that ranged in the mid-4.5 area, with some stopwatches reading 4.48. He also posted a 39-inch vertical jump and 9-foot-10 broad jump"

With that size and explosiveness as well as the fact that he started out at a major DI program, he will be drafted, probably 6th or 7th round. Just freaky athletic, I wonder if he could put weight back on and play a 4-3 DE or if he could stay at that size and play a 4-3 OLB?

Vince Redd is from Elizabethton TN.... The same as Jason Witten (4time Pro Bowl Dallas Cowboys). Vince was a great Football and Basketball player out of high school that had almost every offer to play football or basketball. He chose UVA because they were the only school that would let him play both. He made some bad choices with his grades and went to Liberty after being let go by UVA.
This kid is a great talent that is a good guy just needed some growing up. He is a steal!!!!!

Vince Redd signed with the Patriots which could be a great fit. He is used to the 3-4 and the Patriots have an obvious need at linebacker. If he makes the team, he can play special teams and still have time to develop in the Pats system. Looks like a very good fit.

I know most Browns fans were really wanting Redd in round 6 and 7 or as an UDFA. Not really disappointed we didn't get him though in the end since we got Beau Bell who will be starting at ILB for us in a year or so.
