Like that says he has been added to the staff, but it's not as DB coach.

Hell yes! I wanted him as our defensive coordinator, but I'll gladly take him on the coaching staff in any form.

That is a real nice signing for the DL coach. Peppers will follow! ;)

Edit: was Trgovac the one who had a " fallout with Peppers?

MM now has a ex-HC (capers) as DC, and ex-DC (Trgovac) as Dline coach and a HC candidate ( Moss) as LB coach. There is the experience and pedigree you wanted GB12. Now all TT needs to do is get the pieces for them to work with.

Wish Washington was kept, he has done an amazing job developing that secondary, any thoughts on who may be our secondary coach?

wait, I read on some broads that he was here when Rhodes was our DC? good or bad?

Didn't Washington coach the CBs? Who has he " developed"? Harris and Woodson...? No they were already good. The only thing he can truly take credit for is Tramon Williams, and he's nothing rock solid yet either.

if you consider where Tramon came from and how far he got to where he is, that is great coaching. He was coming around late last year and has continued to be a spark in that secondary. As well he has help Blackmon. Lee has been injured and can not be judge and Bush is just garbage.

Tramon is one exception in how many years coaching? He's done a fine job coaching, but he ( and the packers) hasn't done squat with development recently. Blackmon's only real contributions have been on ST. The Packers solid CB play has come from free agency and a veteran. As I said before Tramon is the exception and he's only had one season of solid play.

Yes I argued with you about him for our DC. He's a fine DL coach, so we're both happy. I was thrilled with our DC hire, you got your guy as DL coach.

From another forum about your question:

actually the coach that peppers had problems with wasn't our new DL coach, but the panthers DL coach Sal Sunseri. i'm close with someone on the panthers and he said that the trgovac and peppers got along well, peppers just didn't like sunseri because he wasn't a give and take kind of coach and felt that he didn't provide peppers anything that could make him elite, essentially feeling like he was wasting his talent.

Let's hope this gives us an edge to get Peppers. We really don't have many "elite" players. He'd surely be one.

I don't know that I'm real big on acquiring Peppers now that we've confirmed a change to a 3-4. He'd be making an adjustment to a 3-4 OLB and, if rumors are believed, would not be open to becoming a 3-4 DE.

We'll likely be going through a similar adjustment with Kampman, who would fill a very similar role. That's a great deal of money for, while talented and accreditted, still unproven players in the 3-4.

I don't mean to be a prick, and I realize you were just trying to help clarify, but a quotation from " another forum" has very little validity. I'd like to see something from a reliable source. Those are just fans like us with an opinion.

agreed, would rather draft someone much younger who has major upside and ablitiy in a 34 as an OLB. Peppers would be given the same role we are giving Kampman in a 34.

I can see your guys' reasoning with the "Peppers would be another Kampman kind of guy". But, Peppers is head and shoulders ahead of Kampman athletically. Anyone remember watching him play basketball at UNC? ( or actually just playing football)

No doubt.
Kampman was a fine high school basketball player in the state of Iowa. He was good.
Peppers PLAYED college basketball in the ACC.
Huge difference.

Just because Peppers is taller than, say the 6-0 James Harrison, doesn't mean he can't cover the flat and short passing lanes better. I think he can. Him opposite Kampman would be devastating to the opposing QBs. It would allow the DL guys to have golden opps with one-on-one blocks. Jenkins would kill somebody if they leave the LT and TE/RB to block Peppers. A quicker NT like a Jay Ratliff would smoke the center or guard. Getcha popcorn ready Packer fans.

Well what was Peppers weight at the time when he was in College? I think his body has taken too much punishment for him to be the same athlete he was when he was younger, though he is still a good one. If he lost 13 pounds and was 270 plus we traded Kampman and get something high for him then I would love the move.

Would you rather get Peppers and then trade Kampman for a pick that becomes a guy in the range of a Clint Sintim or Ziggy Hood or a Larry English?

And then use the #9 pick to add the franchise OT?

I'd be concerned about converting two all pro DEs into OLBs in one offseason, but I wouldn't pass on Peppers because of that. There are other potential free agents that I'd want more than him, but if the chance to get someone that talented is there we should take it.

I usually agree with sitting back in free agency and only going after the top guys if the value is there, but I feel this time we have to get a top level free agent, regardless of cost. If you're going to make a switch as big as we did, you have to bring in the players to make the transition. That's not going to get done just using the draft.

If Terrell Suggs is available to sign there is no excuse for not getting him. He would be a huge boost to this process. He'd give us an experienced 3-4 player and a great OLB. If we get him I'm liking the move a hell of a lot more.

It doesn't necssarily have to be a defensive player either. Jordan Gross would do because then we'd fill our tackle need and we'd have another high pick to use on defense.

I was fine with staying out of free agency in 2007 and with getting just Brandon Chillar last year, but we can't come out empty this time.

Not only would Peppers serve as a great rush backer for us, he could also give us an incredibley versatile set of DEs. Imagine a D-line of Peppers, Kampman, and Jenkins on passing downs, assuming we still play 4-3 occasionally. Yeah, just think about that.

Suggs, he's already a star player from a 3-4 defense

Let the speculation begin... Of course, assuming he even reaches free agency without a tag.

Agree Suggs. And if we could somehow pull Gross as well we'd be able to go 3-4 OLB or NT w/ the #9 pick.

Let the speculation begin... Of course, assuming he even reaches free agency without a tag.
If we are going to break the band on an OLB it better be on Suggs. I want Canty, we can get a young OLB in the draft why break the bank on an FA.

That is better, his down year will lower his value. Plus many Jacksonville fans believe his down year was because he wanted out of Jacksonville and no longer wanted to play there. Also he played LT so I would like to see him at RT.
