They could have kept him. There were ways. Take a pay cut, cut him and re-sign him, restructure him somehow. There was a way to keep him if they wanted to.
So they pretty much just added another hole to a roster that has too many of them to begin with, and no picks to rebuild with.
And now they're gonna spend 6 million a season on what will either be a painfully average starting qb, or a backup qb who will hold a clipboard and provide no production on the field.
So yeah, long story short, I think that's a pretty dumb way to spend your money when you don't have any.
