Default Notre Dame vs Texas State

This is a college draft. Which team has the better college talent. Nothing to do with NFL talent but how well they play at the college level. Any player that was injured in the first two games are not in this. It's not what college team will win but which one has better talent.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Coach: Charlie Weis
Offense: Single Back - 2 TE Formation
Defense: 3-4

QB Brady Quinn Notre Dame
RB Marshawn Lynch California
WR Ted Ginn Ohio State
WR Dwayne Bowe LSU
TE Zach Miller Arizona St.
TE Greg Olsen Miami
OT Doug Free N. Illinois
OG Jeff Byers USC
C Doug Datish Ohio State
OG Mike Jones Iowa
OT Andre Smith Alabama

DE Adam Carriker 6-6, 300
NT Alan Branch 6-6, 330
DE Andre Fluellen 6-4, 290
OLB Brandon Siler 6-2, 235
ILB James Laurinaitis 6-3, 245
ILB Desmond Bishop 6-2, 243
OLB Quentin Groves 6-4, 250
CB Daymeion Hughes 6-2, 190
CB Johnathan Wade 6-0, 195
S Leonard Peters 6-1, 200
S Aaron Rouse 6-4, 225

On offense: Brady Quinn is the premier college QB in the land. Ted Ginn is most likely the fastest WR in the land and he has the speed to burn past defenders deep. His ability to stretch the field deep opens up WR Dwayne Bowe who is a great route runner and is one of the best in the nation at making the tough catch in the middle of traffic. As if that's not enough, Quinn has 2 elite TE's in Zach Miller and Greg Olsen who are both able to exploit the middle of the field very easily in one on one LB coverage. This 2 TE formation is also a great scheme to disguise the run versus the pass. With Marshawn Lynch coming out of the backfield this offense is potent.

On Defense: We have playmakers at every position. Alan Branch will single handedly command double triple teams and open things up for DEs Adam Carriker and Andre Fluellen to man handle their opposition. Our LB corp is the biggest and most talented corps assembled. With James Laurinaitis and Desmond Bishop in the middle and Brandon Siler and Quentin Groves attacking from the outside, offenses will have fits trying to get anything done. This group is great at the run as well as dropping back in coverage. In the secondary Daymeion Hughes is a shutdown corner, and Johnathan Wade is a star in his own right. Aaron Rouse and Leonard Peters are devesating punishers in the backfield. This assembly of talent is unpenetratable.

QB Drew Stanton, Michigan State
WB Adrian Peterson, Oklahoma
FB Brian Leonard, Rutgers
WB Ian Johnson, Boise State
TE Matt Spaeth, Minnesota
SE Chansi Stuckey, Clemson
LT Alex Boone, Ohio State
LG Kasey Studdard, Texas
C Dan Mozes, West Virginia
RG Corey Hilliard, Oklahoma State
RT Chris Messner, Oklahoma

RE Dan Bazuin, Central Michigan
NT Amobi Okoye, Louisville
UT Marcus Thomas, ex-Florida
LE Brian Robison, Texas
WLB Xavier Adibi, Virginia Tech
ILB Justin Warren, Texas A&M
SLB Keith Rivers, Southern Cal
CB Aaron Ross, Texas
CB Fred Bennett, South Carolina
S Kenny Phillips, Miami
S Tom Zbikowski, Notre Dame

Head Coach: Gene Chizik

In case it's not obvious, Texas State will be running the triple-option out of the wishbone formation. Drew Stanton is a tough runner who can take a pounding, so I am confident with him as my quarterback. His first option will be to give it to the fullback, Brian Leonard. He can fake that instead and keep it himself. Depending on which side he goes to, he will have the option of pitching it to Adrian Peterson or Ian Johnson. Both are tough, touchdown machines. Matt Spaeth is a great blocker, as well as being very productive catching the ball and won the best tight end award this season. Chansi Stuckey is a burner who will be used to stretch the field occasionally to keep defenses honest, as well as on reverses. My offensive line has 3 of the Big XII's finest as well as a damn good LT in Alex Boone, and the best center in college football Dan Mozes. My defense is led by Justin Warren, a physical specimen and force against the run. He's flanked by Keith Rivers and Xavier Adibi, two physical FREAKS who are always around the ball. My line is perfectly balanced with a great 4-3 nose in Okoye and THE best 4-3 under tackle in Thomas. Bazuin is an elite pass rusher, while Robison is an underrated and well-rounded end in his own right. Aaron Ross is the most polished player out of a talented Texas secondary, and Fred Bennett is often overlooked because of the lack of talent on his defense. Kenny Phillips and Zbi are absolutely killers. Zbi will stay more in the box, but both are flexible enough that I don't need either to be a true free or strong safety.

I'm gonna go ahead and guess people voting for ND aren't aware of how the 3-4 works, and just have hard-ons for ND and Quinn.

Pretty much, I do HATE Alan Branch at NT though

You're winning 9-3 and you make a comment like that?

BTW, Scott Wright says the best NT prospect in the draft by far is Alan Branch. But what does he know, right?

I just don't think he can get great leverage being 6'6

Why don't you tell me why my defensive assembly of talent is so bad. Tell me where in the front 7, things are messed up. Keep in mind, this is a college team running the 3-4. Not the NFL.

And Ted Washington?

Dude, this is Alan Branch here facing college level talent. His strength, size and power is more than sufficient to play NT. Will he command a double? Can he stuff the run? Then that's all I need.

BTW, are there any teams in college today that are successful running the Wishbone?

What a joke! This isn't 1977 anymore. Offensive systems are soooo much more advanced now days. The college game has narrowed the gap between the pro game. Things are much more complex now days and the wishbone has been extinct for a long time now.

Brandon Siler ar 3-4 OLB? Yea ok. Fluellen in a 3-4? That's not happening. Branch is alright, but Laurinaitis can't get off of a block. Carriker and Groves are the only guys that really fit their roles.

I gotta go with D-Units Notre Dame team. Football games are won on the lines of scrimmage and D-Units OL and DL are superior.

Brandon Siler is an ILB. He has no place on the outside. Fluellen is a tampa 2 penetrator type DT, it's gonna be just like when Travis Johnson was terrible in Houston.

Back up your opinion.
Brandon Siler is an ILB. He has no place on the outside. Fluellen is a tampa 2 penetrator type DT, it's gonna be just like when Travis Johnson was terrible in Houston.
God he was/is terrible, thanks for bringing that up.
Ha... Don't mistake them for the same player now. Johnson was a one hit wonder at FSU who happened to have a good season. Fluellen is only a Junior and he's already playing on a high level. Next season he will be among the best DL prospects talked about for the draft.

"Junior who returns as the starter at defensive tackle...teamed with first round pick Brodrick Bunkley last season to give FSU one of the nation's top interior defensive line duos...dominating interior presence known for his quick first step...a preseason first team All-ACC selection by The Sporting News...the No. 6 defensive tackle in the country according to TSN...also a preseason first team All-ACC pick by Athlon Sports...a preseason Street & Smith's honorable mention All-American ...named the Most Dependable defensive tackle by the coaching staff at the conclusion of the spring."

Siler is a LB man. He's played inside and outside. Probably more outside since that's what he was in High School. To say, "He has no place on the outside." is just wrong. He knows how to get to the QB and can cover. The guy is a playmaker. It doesn't matter where you put him on the field.

I think he meant he is only a good ILB in the 3-4, not in general.
