People underestimate small school players too much and our GM Gene Smith takes full advantage of that

Yeah, I was really surprised by how good his tape was against Tennessee. I'm really liking all 5 of these draft picks. Interested to see if we make any moves in free agency.

So it's been a while since anyone has posted. What does everyone think of free agency for us? It sounds like Weddle is Gene's #1 target. Morrison sounds likely to come back. Leaving a hole at WLB. Maybe someone like McIntosh from the Redskins. Any thoughts?

Its tough to say where we'll go at LB..I could truthfully see Durant and Morrison gone and have 2 completely different LBs in there

Okay, now that we're less than a week away, I'm thinking we'll sign/resign:

Adam Podlesh P
Kirk Morrison MLB
Paul Posluszny WLB
Eric Weddle FS

I wouldn't be surprised at a WR like Santana Moss, a DE, or a SS like Quentin Mikell either.

Sounds like we'll be really active according to Peter King.

Well sounds like we fixed part of the linebackers with Posluszny, now the question is does Morrison stay and we move him to the outside, can he even play outside? Wouldn't be suprised to see us add another lber before FA is over but hope safety is the next thing we target.

Podlesh agrees to sign with the Bears. He got a lot of criticism his 1st 3 years for being a 4th round pick as a punter but he really improved tremendously last year. There was really nothing to gain by letting him go. Gene has done a great job adding guys like Mike Thomas, Kassim Osgood, Deji Karim, and Scotty McGee. now we just opened up a floodwall on special teams.

Still hoping we finish off the defense though.

Linebackers are fixed. Interested to see what we do in the secondary. Now that they're done with Session, I wonder if the Dawan Landry talks will pick up.

Report: Jaguars Agree to Terms With Blaine Gabbert

So almost all of our rookies are signed except Rackley I think

Can't wait until preseason games start. I don't live near Jacksonville, so I'll get to see Gabbert play on tv against Atlanta. Also want to see how the DEs and WRs play. I think we'll learn a ton about those two positions after this year. We could either be totally set or we could have to get a lot of replacements. Up in the air at this point.

I am with holding judgement until the next preseason game. If we don't see some improvement this is going to be a long season.

Well I have to say it was nice seeing a Kampmanless D-line put that kind of pressure on a good Oline like Atlanta. Ryan looked hurried out there alot during the first quater. To the bad our Oline is just bad, we need Britton back because a tackle dummy is better then Whimp. We might have a legit series of wideouts with Hill, Thomas and Shorts and of course David is still David.

Alualu and Mincey played great. Blaine and David struggled. David just keeps reminding me why I'm so sick of him. The miscommunication between Poz and Coleman on that long TD sucks but I guess things like that will happen with new players and it's better to get it out in preseason.

Here's a quick preseason mock. I mainly wanted to do this to figure out which players I should keep an eye out for this year in CFB. I'll just say 8-8 again, not necessarily a prediction, just to keep it basic.

1.16 Jake Bequette, DE, Arkansas 6'5" 271
- Probably Roth's replacement and then a long term replacement for Kampman

2.16 Ben Jones, C, Georgia 6'3" 315
- Meester's replacement. Spitz can remain a backup

3.16 Trumaine Johnson, CB, Montana 6'3" 210
- Replacement for Mathis. He'll be 32 next year, don't think he gets resigned.

4.16 Brian Quick, WR, Appalachian State 6'5" 220
- Adds a new dimension to the WR corps. Nice big target for Gabbert

5.16 David Pickard, OT, Southern Illinois 6'5" 306
- It's critical that we get a swing tackle for next year

6.16 Nicolas Jean-Baptiste, DT, Baylor 6'2" 335
- Backup for Knighton. The more fresh bodies we can rotate in our d-line, the more effective everyone can be.

7.16 Brian McNally, DE, New Hampshire 6'3" 266
- Just another guy up front

That game was ugly. If the defense wasn't field goals, it would have been even uglier.

I'd expect Gabbert to get the start on Sunday at Carolina, but we'll see.

Should be interesting to see how our defense plays against a top flight offense like New Orleans. We better let Gabbert air it out too.

So I'll finally be able to see a game on tv this week. (I live in Ohio). I really hope Kampman plays. If he does, Whitworth will be a big test for him.
