Alot of people told me jar head sucked and it had no action, and I ended up loving it for what it was. I liked hurt locker too, Ive only seen both once so idk which I prefer.

Jarhead was a pleasant surprise for me too. Almost like a black comedy with the way they presented the absurdity of Desert Storm & war in general as daily reality to the Marines there.
It was elevated in the War Movie genre to a superior film of any kind b/c of performances by actors with Scandanavian double-As in their names, Gyllenhaal & Sarsgaard, (Jamie Foxx was excellent too), & a super screenplay by Vietnam veteran & former Texas Monthly Editor William Broyles Jr. that gave authenticity to the diary narration of Jar Head from someone who has been int The Suck & in shooting wars.
Gyllenhaal went bigtime after Brokeback Mtn. but has impressed me ever since Donnie Darko, & Sarsgaard does star turns in everything I've seen him in from Boys Don't Cry, the underrated mystery film Salton Sea, overrated horror voodoo film Skeleton Key & Flightplan. Either/both could be making Oscar acceptance speeches very soon.
Hurt Locker took a different perspective altogether, the nitty gritty very scary reality of war from the individual soldiers' perspectives with all the stresses they undergo magnified for the audience.

I finally saw Zombieland. It was good and I enjoyed it but didn't love as much as some did. Shaun of the Dead still holds the throne for zombie comedies.

I concur. It's, along with Munich and Inglourious Basterds, the best war film from the 00s. I really can't decide which I like most. I also think it's Mendes's best film.
I absolutely love it. People are taken back by a war movie with no war, no fighting. It's not what you expect it to be. If you are willing to watch a character study, and a damn good one with a great lead performance from Jake Gyllenhaal, then this is it. If you want a corny, blood bath then watch a piece of **** like We Were Soldiers.
Role Models is great too. That movie surprised me. I have probably watched it 4 or 5 times now.
EDIT: LizardState, just read your response. Anthony Swofford wrote the book and was the main character that went to war. You named the guy that read his book and then wrote a screenplay about it.

I've had the Dr. Horrible quote in my location for a long time, mainly because the set rules.
