I know I'm late but I just saw The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Good lord, I was not expecting to see some of the things I saw. Pretty good movie, but the end was a little strange to me.
That's how I felt about some of it. It was just too much in some parts, most definitely. I was disappointed in it overall.

Well it's the first in a trilogy of novels. So the story is supposed to continue. Not sure if they will continue with the movies though.

Man up and stop being a woman APS, it wasn't too much.
It has nothing to do with being a woman, it was just stuff that didn't need to be shown. Like...I honestly understand the concept of making the audience feel unpleasant. But due to the way an audience operates, placing that scene in the movie, the way Fincher did...it makes the audience a near-participant in the scene. I feel like cutting away to the door and just leaving the noises while it fades to black would have been the way to handle that situation, even if it seems cliched. Just too graphic for my liking.

that is ******* disgusting, and whoever thought it ought to be nominated should be dragged out and shot repeatedly in the kneecaps. that was literally the worst movie i have ever, ever seen. and i haven't even looked at any of the other nominations yet.

I cannot figure out how Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close got nominated. From what I'm reading, there's already huge backlash surrounding that nomination.
EDIT: And of the ones I've seen up there, Midnight in Paris was by far the best, even though it has literally a 0% chance of winning.

ugh. the music was horrendous... the big bang 'scene' was the worst thing anyone has ever put on film. the 35 seconds of brad pitt's character were the only mildly redeeming part of anything, and even then, they were cardboard cutout characters. it's appalling to me that terrence malick is being actively encouraged to make more movies, rather than being slowly burned to death for subjecting anyone to that abomination.
as to whether the rest of the movies this year stunk, i wouldn't entirely disagree. but i'd rather watch 'meet the spartans' a thousand times before watching 10 minutes of tree of life.

it seemed like the movie that was made just for the best picture award... 9/11... hipster-famous book... sandra bullock... tom hanks... some kid... perfect award recipe.

It got terrible reviews for it's heavy handedness on said issues, and apparently it's pissing some people off that it got nominated.
Anyways, I'm really surprised we saw Drive get shutout of the major categories, Warrior and 50/50 too. The last 2 are the best movies I saw this year. Hopefully Rango wins best animated though.

Yeah have to say 50/50 was the best movie I have seen this year, and that entire nomination list is ridiculous. I don't think I have ever cared less about an awards year after seeing that.
Look at it this way, if Rodgers had Allstate instead of State Farm, he'd be protected from mayhem like this

The Descendants
Hugo

Moneyball
War Horse
Tree of Life
The Help (a painfully average movie with pretty good acting and a cookie cutter story)
I'll see Midnight in Paris in a week or so and Extremely Loud Friday I guess, if I have to.
