I just saw Prometheus, and I honestly thought it was a joke. It makes me appreciate sci fi films like Moon and Sunshine so much more.

Probably won't see Prometheus for a while, but I am already way too stoked for Scott's next project. Something written by Cormac McCarthy that stars Fassbender, Pitt, and Bardem? If you **** that up, then you are just a bad person.

well if it's based on McCarthy then it's pretty safe to say that it will be a better script than that junk written by some loser who wrote for LOST (which btw I think was a ridiculously bad and cheesy show, but that's a discussion for another day). I do like JJ Abrams though, he's fairly legit, though some of that LOST cheese finds its way into his films as well occasionally.

I just saw Prometheus. Great movie. Too bad it doesn't answer a lot of questions it creates and there are some things that don't make sense, but still a nice film regardless.

Would be a similar situation as with Kingdom of Heaven if true. I never saw the theater version, but it was heavily edited and received average reviews. The director's cut which is decently longer, is apparently much better, and having seen it, I do think its a pretty good movie.

I hated Kingdom, perhaps I should check out director's cut. I'd also be interested in an extended cut of Prometheus.

Yeah red letter also did the amazing star wars reviews. ******* hilarious, and I watched that video before seeing prometheus, I feel like nothing was really spoiled for me that would ruin the movie.

I have not read the book, but can already tell you that the movie is insulting to the book.

It looked extremely boring by the trailers, so I didn't bother.

Boring is the perfect word for it. Also just checked out Adventureland for the first time as well, and it was a bit long but other than that was a fun watch.

I wonder if movie studios are in such a bind these days for a general audience to accept a movie and also make a profit at the same time that it limits Hollywood's creativity in terms of what it can do. I heard that over the last two years over 96% of films that have been released on a wide scale have either been remakes or sequels. Folks are scared to take chances.
When you have movies like Transformers 2 making a boatload of money, technically it's a good business decision by the studios that produce the film, regardless of what people say...it makes them money. At the same time, it won't have the lasting power that people like to remember with their movies. But why would they care? The studios that is. Of course it depends on the genre of film that is being made.
It just seems like it might be difficult for these really big movies to either focus on characterization and action at the same time while being original and being backed by a studio in the hopes it makes money. Not saying it can't be done (Batman Begins), but these days in the microwave era where people just want their explosions or whatever, it seems like it might be really difficult. Has the general audience for movie-goers become dumber? At least in America? Where are we headed?

i thought it had its moments, and it's hard to mess up Hunter Thompson, but it could've been a lot better. Not the best book to make a movie out of IMO is all.
