Yeah I wouldn't use The Grey as evidence that survival movies are good.

I though 'The Grey' was pretty lame. I was shocked to see how well it did reviews wise.

I made it about 85% of the way in and got pulled away for something and never went back to it. I really agree with you on this one.

How do you not list Cast Away, 127 hours, The Road, Into the Wild, Buried, etc but list Shoot to Kill and The Grey?

Buried is a very underrated movie. It came out around the same time as 127 hours and I thought it was better but it never got the traction 127 hours got.

Cast Away was really boring, 127 hours did nothing for me and I started rooting for the guy to die in Into the Wild about 20 minutes in. *shrug* just not my genre, if I want to go look at some pretty nature I'll go for a hike.

Considering only an utter idiot with no understanding of cinema would post that as confirmation, take a guess.

Why? Gravity was visually great and a good overall movie, but it was kind of dull at the same time.

Well I guess Im an idiot then. Gravity has amazing visuals and that is it. The characters, dialogue, and plot are all cookie cutter or shoehorned in for cheap emotional manipulation. If I did not see it in 3D, I would have said the movie is garbage. He used the 3D medium so well and created some breathtaking shots, but as a story, I found it to be pretty meh.

My quick movie reviews:

Anchorman 2 was funny and worth seeing. But I walked in with low expectations and was mildly surprised. Lots of laughs. B-

The Wolf of Wall Street I thought was boring as ****. Honestly this movie drug so bad for me. Did not like. D+ (Would have been an F if it wasnt for McConaughey and DiCaprio great acting)

I loved American Hustle. I loved the cast, the acting was awesome. Plus Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams to look at. A-

Going to see the Hobbit this weekend.

Other than breezing through Mirkwood Forrest too fast I still enjoyed the 2nd movie. Keep in mind most of the added stuff is from Tolkien's massive collection of Middle Earth notes. His son allowed Jackson to use that material to flesh out a lot of merely-implied stuff from The Hobbit.

The Tauriel character was also unnecessary but eh.

The Hobbit movies prove how much better that book was than the rest of his Middle Earth work. The latter books were so full of fluff and just...words... The Hobbit is a 3-part book in 320 pages. The Lord of the Rings is 3 1-part books that's 3x the size. I flat-out stopped reading halfway through Two Towers. It was such garbage. I got fed up with the fluff...just couldn't take it anymore. Good story, but it was ruined by the exhaustive and trite writing.
