I think the problem with Sarsgaard is he actively avoids starring roles. I read an interview with him where he stated he rarely auditions for leads because he prefers smaller parts for their quirks. And while I love him as much as anyone, I really wish I could see him in a really strong lead role. He is a great actor, and I really wish he would sorta step into the spotlight and just grab one of the great acting opportunities that come along. I do think its important to not lose those character roles, but I would really love for him to get a chance to really blow some people away.

The man has his moments. I think if he stopped ALWAYS picking things that are controversial and just made good films, he would be received much better. That said, I love Natural Born Killers and JFK and I liked parts of Any Given Sunday. I think he did a pretty good job on NBK but he did get a great script from Quentin Tarantino to work with. I've never actually made it through JFK so I can't comment on that one and Any given Sunday was just solid.

Everything after Natural Born Killers is not nearly as good as what's before. He just hasn't done anything good in a while, kind of like Brian De Palma or Francis Ford Coppola.

And that point proves exactly what I was saying earlier. Peter Sarsgaard is a great actor, but I really wish he would star in a movie like Garden State. It just seems like he would be great in a starring role, but to see him in one would be odd because he is always second fiddle to someone else. I do love him in Garden State though. Hes like Michael Weston, another guy I constantly tell people about who is also in Garden State. Wait till he gets a starring role, its going to be big. That kid is a good actor.
