I just watched The Lovely Bones and thought it was a good movie other then the fact that I've read the book.. The ending made the movie go from an A to a C for me.
Read the spoiler if you don't want to read the book and watched the movie

I was not aware that Carey Mulligan is in Wall Street 2. Looking quite cute in her short spots in the trailer. +Brolin, Langella, Douglas... still not into it.
Hooray for Oscar noms taking up 15 minutes of my time at work tomorrow.

Just watched The Prestige again. What an incredible film; a terribly underrated movie at that. It is easily one of my favorites of all time.

The Prestige is one of those movies that will forever be under appreciated due to its proximity to both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, and also due to its somewhat "cop out" ending. That said, its a wonderfully done film that features GREAT acting, a good story, and a magnificent twist. I really enjoy it, and its one of those movies I find I cant turn off no matter where I start it.

How is it that Christopher Nolan has yet to be even nominated for best director? It boggles the mind. Another reason why no one should pay attention to the Oscars, at all.

This is one of those arguments that will forever be debated. I was one of those people who felt that when Ledger wasn't on screen, TDK suffered as both a crime thriller and a film in general. I said that immediately after I saw the film, and I maintain that argument after 2nd and 3rd viewings. I think its very important to clarify that I think TDK was a huge success and it was a comic book film that set certain standards, but I liked Iron Man better last year and I like it better now. Thats a bold statement, to be sure, but its how I feel. When Ledger wasn't on screen, TDK was a lesser version of Heat, which is a fantastic film in and of its own right, but it certainly isnt viewed as one of the best films of the last 20 years.

On top of all that, Memento is a far superior film to TDK in just about every way. I felt that was important to mention.

So much blasphemy I don't know where to start. Too tired, save debating strength for tomorrow. "Sucked pretty badly"? My mind can't comprehend such a statement, sir.

I don't think I disagree with any part of this.
That said, it's really unfair to knock TDK for Ledger's Joker pretty much dwarfing everything else (besides Eckhart, who was really good). It is totally fair to knock it for the inconsistent writing and a few trite moments, but it should still be recognized that it is the best Batman movie ever. Easily.

I dont disagree. TDK was a massive achievement, not just for Batman, but for comic book movies everywhere. It was everything Spiderman wasnt, and thats coming from a HUGE fan of the first 2 Spiderman movies. It was a properly done comic adaptation. That said, I still like Iron Man better. That may very well be because I was a fan of the Iron Man comics and as a former comic *****, I never liked Batman, but still...when Ledger wasnt on screen, TDK suffered as a film. Which isnt necessarily an awful thing, it just means the film was what it was...it certainly isnt worth of the acclaim it registered.

See, I love Batman, so it was the one I really wanted to be great. Iron Man was a pleasant surprise.
That said, Iron Man was also one of the easier adaptations and it yielded a pretty simple movie. I agree that it was massively entertaining and was paced to perfection, but Nolan gets points for biting off so much more than Favreau.

You are absolutely correct. As an ex-comic *****, I agree that Iron Man is a much simpler adaptation, and that as awesome as Christian Bale is as Bruce Wayne, Robert Downey Jr. is absolutely pitch perfect as Tony Stark. Its the best casting move Ive ever seen in a comic book movie outside of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, and well...we all know how that turned out.
I agree, TDK was a great film. But Ive always maintained the reason it was a great film was because it was a good film buoyed by Ledger's performance, which was, admittedly, incredible.

And if Ledger didnt die 80% of people wouldnt consider his performance as good as they do.
