Fred Gibson Cut
http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sp...729gibson.html
I thought he had good chance to make the team after having a good mini camp a few months ago. I wonder what went wrong

Yeah thats why this caught me off guard so much. At the worst I figured he plays a few pre season games and probley ends up on the practice squad. It dosn't make sense to hear all the good things about him from the coaches and media and then have him cut during mini camp. I wonder if the meeting he misssed had something to do with it.

I think he was cut this early because honestly he didn't have a chance to make this team, we have guys with his attributes everywhere, and we need to add diversity (an old wooden ship) to our WR corps. That's why Vincent will make it and Gibson was cut, but they cut him this early so he can get a chance somewhere else. I like that he did that for him, but I really didn't think he had much of a chance, I just kept my mouth shut.
6'4+ WRs for the Falcons are the norm, guys with speed and return ability like Vincent are more versatile even at his minuscule stature I think he's exactly what this team needs. We have Jennings who is quick, but he's still not a real small Steve Smith type guy (not ability just size I'm talking) but Vincent is that, and I think him on 0 screens and stuff will be very effective.

Who do we have besides Jenkins who is tall? We cut Derrick Gibson and Derrick Hamilton and Finneran is out for the year. Whereas we have speed players in Roddy, Jennings, Marshall, and even Horn could be classified as a down the field player.

I thought we still had Youngblood around somewhere...my bad...but we have Roddy at 6'2 as well...I just really didn't see him making it...but I guess reasoning was bad...

Roddy is 6'0. Kind of BS that he was supposed to be 6'3 coming out of UAB. I would like him a lot more if so.

6'0
It's understandable though considering he had a DeAngelo Williams like drop in height from college to the pros.

I read somewhere that Petrino cut him because he missed a scheduled meeting. It was supposedly a move to send a message to the other players, not to miss a meeting. I cant remember where I read it but thats what I understood.

If you're a fringe player, why are you missing a meeting? Clearly he isn't that bright..

NFL Draft Scout, the most accurate resource I've come across, states that Roddy White measured in at 6-1-1/4 at the Combine.

I'm just going by ESPN/ NFL/ Atlanta Falcons.com.
I'd think AtlantaFalcons.com would have it right, but who knows.

He's an idiot. He wasn't good enough anyway. Now that there is the potential for a passing game with vick gone, the other trash needs taken out. Thus Roddy White needs removed from the team.
Say hello to Laurent Robinson. With the eventual dismissal of the turd vick, Robinson has potentially found himself in a nice spot. I felt bad for the guy when Atlanta first called his name in the draft but it is looking bright now for his future. Especially if the team can suck bad enough to grab Brohn next year. It will be the 1st time they have had an NFL caliber starting QB since Schaub.

I think it's too early to write off White, 2007 is his third year in the league and imo he's a better fit for Petrino's offense than Knapp's WCO of two years' prior. Having a veteran in Horn not only provides young receivers like him, Jenkins, and Robinson a mentor to help them learn and advance in their craft, but I think he could also allow White to stretch the field more if the offensive line can pass protect Joey Harrington long/well enough.

White has been impressing in camp apparently. lod, the rumor is that White's hands and route running have increased exponentially with the better coaching and Horn getting on his ass

I think all of our WRs will see a dramatic improvement with a coach who knows how to coach the position and wasn't an offensive linemen...
