Just a ploy to keep him around for one more year at least. Our DE position is loaded and we wouldn't want to lose one of our players at that slot to another team. All it is is just a ploy so we won't have to lose another one of our DEs this year, but what happens next year.

If we were going to get rid of one of our DE's it would have been McDougle. I doubt it's a ploy because McDougle has never done anything well enough for us to want to keep him around.
