Brandon LaFell and Curtis Taylor are both big time players, there's not a big drop off from their predeccessors.

LaFell was a blue chip recruit a few years back. Hes a really good player.

Terrance Toliver and Demetrius Byrd showed up today too. Toliver reminds me of Roy Williams.

Also, I was totally shocked LSU put up 48 tonight. I figured we'd win, but i thought it'd be more like 10-3 or 17-7. It looked like they were trying to make a statement tonight and I'd imagine they did.

VT is still the best team in the ACC though..so theres always that.

LSU would beat West Virginia even worse then they did Tech.

Virginia's run game would be slowed down (if not stopped) by LSU's stifling D... and that's all they have. No defense means LSU would put up 50.

i dont know, 600 yards of offense for LSU, i dont honestly think VT will win the ACC now, the last 2 games the defense with the exception of Brandon Flowers has not shown up. Some things I saw for this game, though, it looked to me like the WR's have given up on Sean Glennon, espicially, Josh Morgan, because i know deep down they know Sean cannot get them the ball effectively......Looking back at the game, VT's inabilty to get in the backfield and contain a play is basically why this game wasnt closer, multiple times on a crucial plays there were poor angles/tackling, Chris Eliis is overated and to this point, deserves no NFL hype. LSU's offense is too fast for any team in the nation, and their defense still has yet to be really tested by a team with a legitimately good offense, but i think they are good enough to hold any offense under 30 points, including USC, Florida, etc. They as of right now have the best defense in the nation in my eyes, and probably by the end of the season, will have a top 3 offense.

The only remote comfort I get is looking at Miami. But they weren't expected to do what we were.

everyone knew our offense was suspect, Branden Ore needs to get his head on straight, last season he played so hard, now he goes down at a finger poke. The offensive line didnt do that bad tonight, Sean Glennon should know when the opponent shows blitz on third down to call to a fade or slant route, but instead, he waits for the deep-in or post and gets sacked.

I don't agree with this. Unfortunately Boston College looks like the class of the ACC so far.

can any va tech fans help me out with the question of is our offense that good or is the defense for va tech just not showing up?? i didn't think that we would score near as many points as we did.

side note: how fu**in' fast is Holliday?? wowzers.

Yeah, just like Auburn dominated South Florida. H..mmm Georgia and Tennessee haven't done a whole lot in losing. Yeah, the SEC dominates everybody. Too bad nobody but you sees it.

Wow. What a defensive letdown. I didn't expect much out of the offense but the defense looked horrible.

Tyrod Taylor will be a good one though. Didn't look too rattled out there, poised and generally good decision making.

its probably something like 50% they didnt show up, 50% it is that good, there were several plays, like that long option run that shouldnt have happened, they were arm tackling, Kam Chancellor was rattled from the get go, but your offense is good because it is balanced and has the skill to do really whatever they want.

I honestly believe that Tech's defense is overrated this year. It has to be. I definitely did not expect LSU to score 6 offensive touchdowns on a defense that was supposed to be top 2 or 3 in the nation... LSU's offense is good, but not THAT good, so how am I to come to any other conclusion? LSU's defense, on the other hand, is in a whole other stratosphere. I'm not sure that Tech even has anybody (maybe Macho Harris, but that's all I could see) who would even start for the Tigers. All around superb game for LSU. I don't see how we don't leapfrog USC for the #1 ranking.

Actually, that is something my friend and I were discussing once we were leaving the LSU/Va Tech game last night. We were listening to the scoreboard and heard that unranked South Floridan= beat ranked Auburn and that unranked South Carolina beat Georgia. Tennessee was also having problems with Southern Miss until they eventually pulled away. Those losses don't do anything to help the conference (SEC) out and we also have traditional doormats Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky playing in the conference too. I think this year the SEC is going to be in a down year. I also think the Big 10 will be in a down year, same thing with the ACC.
So my friend and I came to conclusion, one we winced at but knew to be more than likely true, that this year the PAC 10 seems to be the strongest conference. Oregon, Cal, USC all have looked good and strong. UCLA is always very competitive and Washington is up and coming. It just seems that they are the strongest conference this year.

I'm not ready to put them over the SEC just yet, but the Pac 10 is definitely strong this year. Homerism aside (or maybe not, idk), I think LSU is a better team than USC. Cal, UCLA, and Oregon are all very good teams, and I absolutely love what Washington is doing right now. I don't know, though... Florida, Tennessee, South Carolina, Arkansas, Georgia and Auburn (even after their losses), Alabama (as much as it pains me), and even Kentucky... I can't see this being a "down" year for SEC football at all. If anything, I think it will be stronger and more competitive than ever.

The top teams are SC,LSU, and OU (no order) imo. It will be a good run this season for all these teams and I anticipate them all undefeated. LSU will probably pass SC on the poll, but I think the nation knows now after 2 dismal games from VT that they are not a top 10 team(probably belong near 20) though LSU's perfromance was still impressive obviously. It will be a big week for SC against Nebraska and will probably show the true colors of SC's team this year.

THe SEC is full of teams that are still kind of growing up. Vandy and Kentucky are not doormats anymore though. Kentucky's going to win 7 or 8 games this year and its very possible that Vandy does to. MSU and Ole Miss are..bad.

South Carolina beating Georgia didn't surprise me either, though. Georgia is breaking in a lot of new defensive starters and last year they had little offensive cohesion to begin with. They smashed a pretty mediocre Oklahoma State last week but they were no where near the top 10.

South Carolina's a bit underrated, I think. This could be the year they start to make the turn toward the SEC east with the ball coach.

And as for Auburn..I was just glad to see them lose. Brandon Cox is horrible. They have a damn good defense but thats really all. Auburn is rebuilding right now. Those running backs they have are really talented though. Mario Fanin and Tate are going to be very good players. I do think they'll miss Brad Lester a lot though.

The thing about the SEC is at this stage of the season you don't know who all will end up being the good teams. Tennessee and Auburn are typically good teams, but it's not unexpected if they end up no better than #6 in the conference. If LSU, UF, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina all win 9-10+ games, Auburn and Tennessee become afterthoughts. They become the SEC's equivalent of Oklahoma State, Arizona, or Purdue.
