Thumbs up Oct/19/2007 Mos Mock

MOS Mock Oct/19/2007

Heres my Oct/19/2007 Mock Draft, haven’t done one since preseason so here it is.

Round 1

OT, Gosder Cherilus, BC
6’7 318

Its no secret that the offensive line is the biggest concern. With Marvel steps away from retirement and no true tackle opposite of him a franchise tackle is needed. Cherilus can step into the RT spot immediately. After a season Marvel would slide to RT and Cherilus would become our franchise LT.

Round 2

WR, Adarius Bowman, Ok St.
6’4 220

Not a great WR class and having the best 5 ranked very closely, especially with Doucet and Sweed having injuries its likely the second WR taken will be late first. Bowman should be here and the value of a big receiver to replace Ward would be tough to pass on.

Round 3

OT, Jeff Otah, Pitt
6’6 340

You better believe this is the year the Steelers reshape their o-line or you will be watching draft day in awe. With our future LT in place the Steelers take the RT of their future Otah. Otah will get the experience he needs while waiting 2 seasons for Smith to retire. This is an ideal pick as Otah has played phenomenal this season and while his draft stock will range from late 2nd-early 4th he is the pick if here.

Round 4

OG/C, Jordan Grimes, Pur
6’3 225

In love with this pick. Grimes to me belongs in a Steelers uniform. He can be a solid guard and can even be a great center. Mentality, attitude, technique he has it all.

Round 5

RB, Ryan Torian, Az St.
6’1 213

Big injury has sidelined him for the rest of his senior season. May or may not work out at the combine, if he does he wont be at full strength. Torain was a mid-late 2nd rounder prior to the injury and slips to at least rd 5 due to it. Remember Michael Bush was a sure-fire first rounder before his injury and was drafted in the 4th. Season ending injuries hurt draft stock badly, especially for RB.

Round 6

Amarri Jackson
6’5 195

Did you honestly think I would make a mock without my diamond in the rough. I have been touting Jackson for awhile and still he gets no recognition, he has immense potential.

I was just thinking the other day how well Ryan Torrain would compliment Parker. Due to his injury, I could see him falling that far because he probably won't play in the Senior Bowl now and he his combine won't be great because he is a between the tackles runner.

Good mock. I'm not sure about Jackson. I like South Florida and that seems like a good value pick, but in every USF game I've watched, he barely does anything good. Other than the Auburn game (I think) I haven't been all that impressed. Last night he couldnt do a thing. But again, getting him in the 6th round isn't really risking a whole lot.

Also, what about Willie Colon. He hasn't been perfect, but he's showing promise. Do you think the steelers will change his position or just relegate him to backup duty?

Um.. Bowman will be a round 1 pick and if not he'll go before pick 26+ in round 2.

DO we need 3 OL?

Gosder, Otah and Grimes?

I don't like Grimes Personally. I don't know if Gosder is LT potential in the NFL. We're drafting 2 RT's that could potentially play LT.

I'd take Chris Williams over Cherilous. Unless you're switching Otah.

Bowman will not be a first rounder. Jackson will likley go top 10. It will come down to Sweed or Doucet as the next WR chosen. Both have had injuries this year and aside from that neither are all that good. One of the two will likley be picked end of round one. From there you have either Sweed/Doucet, Burton, Bowman and Douglas. I very much doubt those 4 will be picked high second and Bowman will likley be mid-end of round 2.

Do we need three o-line? Yea, little talent and no depth. We need two tackles, Smith is better suited at RT now until he retires in a couiple years. Colon is a natrual guard. Insert Cherilus and Otah, there you have our future tackles. As for Grimes why dont you like him? In a season or two he will challange Simmons/Colon at guard or they may make him center. As for saying you dont think Cherilus is a LT all I can say is watch him play, everyone on this board can attest to him. Saying you would take Williams over Cherilus a bigtime prospect in this draft to me is absurd.

Im glad you brought that up. Colon is a guard plain and simple, the sooner we get him at his natrual position the more chance he has to improve. Grimes would backup both Simmons/Colon providing us with depth of which we have none. I wouldnt count him out as a starter in a few years either. While Simmons and Colon have both shown competence and at times great flashes Grimes is as steady as they come. Should Simmons and Colon both play steller I wouldnt be at all surprised to see Grimes moved to center.

Bowman will go before Sweed and Doucet in my opinion. Bowman is my #1 Sr. WR. He is the best of the seniors period. Saying that Sweed with Injury is better, is ludicrous, he's not even better pre-injury.

Ah, I didn't say big time prospect, I said as a LT. Cherilous will make a great Pro OT.. But it will be on the right side, he has the same exact issues as Jake Long. He's too stiff to play Pro LT.

Gosder had issues against Wake Forest, UMass, and Notre Dame. If he can't even play top notch against those teams, what makes you think he's going to stand up to Terrell Suggs, Kamerion Wimbley, and other pass rushers in the league.

Williams has a long resume of shut downs.

Quentin Moses, Quentin Groves, Casper Brinkley, Wallace Gilberry, Jarvis Moss, Jamaal Anderson...

Gosder couldn't even hold off David Burris(UMass), Jeremy Thompson(Wake Forest ~ 7th round prospect).

Gosder could be a damn good RT in the mold of Jon Runyan.. but he's no LT. I don't care if you disagree. Tell me to watch the games. I do.. Thats why I know he's too stiff and he doesn't possess pro level lateral agility.

Mos are you forgetting Kemoeatu? He's slated to replace Faneca. I agree on 2 Tackles, but 2 Tackles and a guard?

With 2 OT's we have Simmons, Kemo, Colon, Stapleton and Mahan for the interior. We need a RT/RG swingman. Which would be Otah and a LT.

I still don't think Cherilous is a better LT than Williams. Williams has dominated, Gosder has had 2 different weeks where he looked pathetic.

In fact I think Gosder will fall to round 2 and Williams will be a late 1st to early 2nd.

Williams ~ Simmons ~ Mahan ~ Kemo ~ Otah
Smith ~ Colon ~ Stapleton ~ Colon ~ Smith

I think we could use a backup RT/RG swingman.. or a backup LT/LG.. a guy like Adam Kraus of Michigan, Duane Brown of VT or Kirk Barton of OSU more than a OG/C candidate.

How you can call Sweed before Bowman ludacris is beyond me. On top of that you say pre-injury as well. I dont see how you can call something ludacris when your the only person that feels that way.

As for you thinking Cherilus isnt a LT, nothing more I can say will change your mind because you are stubborn. Also I didnt forget about Kemo, the only reason he is slated to take over for Faneca is because their is no one else. Also we have one of the worst olines depth wise in the league.

marvel steps away from retirement? isnt he only 29? He is still performing at a very high level...

im not sure how i feel about just writing off marvel like that, hes been very good for us this season

i like the bowman pick, and otah in the 3rd...

i think id rather get the best guard prospect rd1...

then rd 4/5/6 address our aging d-line, and maybe a return man

i dont see the need for another RB right now, its crowded back there as it is already

Marvel has had a great year so far. I want to see Colon get a shot to be the starting LG next season with Faneca gone. That would leave RT open. Starks could be brought back to compete with a first round pick for the spot.

Then we would have Starks, Kemo, Stapleton, as depth which I think is good enough for backups.

Hopefully we can get Smith's contract extended next offseason.

How concerned at you guys with Bowman's character? I know he got kicked out of UNC. Cowher made it a point not to draft guys with character concerns, and we had a stable franchise because of it, I'd hope that Tomlin would adopt a similar policy.

Also, while I appreciate the need to replenish the o-line, we do have some depth issues along the DL and at ILB. I'm not sure how McBean is progressing, but Hampton, Smith and even Keisel are all going to be 30+ next year, so it would make sense to draft som DL depth to develop.

I feel that Tomlin might take a chance on a guy who had problems but has overcome them. Sortof like Eric Wright of last year. There's some risk, but hopefully the player has overcome any previous issues.

And I agree, some D-line depth would be good, preferrably at NT. Hokie does a great job, but he's no Hamp and both are getting older.

Were pretty good at ILB right now. Both Farrior and Foote are on a high level and we have Timmons waiting in the wings.

i like the mock mos, but i also think bowman will be a round one pick...but in round two if you wanna go reciever, we can go with kennan burton. hes a player that i like a lot..hes not as big as bowman(6'2 200) but he has great hands and can replace ward..

I love picks 1,3,5, i'm not so sure about the others but i wouldnt be that dissapointed with them. I think we need some depth at LB and CB, but i know you aint gonna agree about the LB so i'll just leave it as that. Grade B+
