I think in retrospect you really had to expect that to happen. They got ****** over with Berbatov and Keane and they brought in almost a whole team worth of players. I'm sure the team chemistry is suffering at the moment and I'd expect that to improve as the season progresses.
I'm predicting another mid table finish if Ramos can get each player playing in positions they are suited for. (ie Bentley playing in the mids not as 2nd striker or right back.)

man city is going to be the only team to buy in the january transfer market, well MAYBE chelski buy a striker but i heard on world soccer daily that the top 4 have a combined debt of something like 2 billion pounds, which in my rough calculations is an ass ton of money. liverpool is tapped out which is why they couldnt scrape the money up for barry, arsenal dont buy even thou im pretty sure they have the money, man u still have to finalize the tevez deal and thats going to be another 20ish mil, chelsea who knows but probably nothing.
newcastle is probably going to be broke, spurs have spent a ton already and still need another striker, and everyone else have shot their tv wads.
i think the wild cards will be villa and hull, they both seem to run a fairly cheap squad and depending on table position may try to bring some one in to make a push for europe.
hull in any uefa comp would be amazing.

If Manchester City ends up being the only buyer, there will be no buyers. Simple economics.

probably the only buyer that makes alot of big moves. west hams completely boned, roma is a pube away from defaulting on their loans, and thats just off the top of my head. the german leagues are the only ones to probably not get screwed in the credit crunch. everyone will be selling and very few buying.

Even if Man City is buying, what players want to go there when they probably wont even be in Europe (they are in the UEFA cup because of "fair play" and they definitly will not qualify for the CL or cup next year, sure they will pay high wages but so will Chelsea and Man U.

I'm willing to bet that City will end up in Europe. They have too much talent there already and they will add to that in January. I would say City, Portsmouth and Villa are looking best for a UEFA Cup spot.

Soccer thread, awesome!
I'd agree with Yatta! ^ I fancy Villa, City and Pompey to get Uefa Cup. With the usual top 4. Although if anyone can break the top 4 I reckon it could be Villa.
Tough game for us (West Brom) saturday, expect to get hammered at Man Utd.
Rooney's in the middle of the usual 10 game amazing run he has too, yay.

Portsmouth won't get UEFA cup football. They just haven't been playing well enough. Ten goals conceded in a 2 game span

Good wins this champions league week for Man U, they looked good, Chelsea grinded out a boring 1-0 win,
I cant wait for this weekend when we got Chelsea Liverpool, this game will be huge for both teams and it should be a typical boring game like they always are for chelsea v liverpool, ill predict 1-0 on a lampard penalty in the 21'

I think Liverpool's injury list is gonna decide that game - Gerrard, Keane and Torres are all questionable. I know Chelsea have injuries as well but their squad is much deeper.

So what are everyone's thoughts on the Chelsea-Liverpool game? Are Liverpool now favourites for the title?

Liverpool have been my tip for the title since the start of the season and I stick by that. Tactically they play a sound game and their potential to score is definitely there. If their defense can hold up I think they can win.
In other news Spurs WIN!

Watched the game at Wembley and nearly caused a riot cheering on the Reds, probably not a good thing to do in London, oh well, YNWA!!!

no Liverpool are not the title favorites, they are hot no but they will have a run of bad results and then have to focus on the champions league like they do every year, right now Chelsea has a five point lead on the only other serious challenger Man U.

It seems like a very risky move for a team that has a realistic shot at taking a WC.

I'm stunned. However this may be the spark this team needs to wake up from their poor performance thus far in '10 WC qualifying. Bianchi would have been the much safer choice.

I think that Maradona will do OK, he's probably better suited at managing internationally as strange as that sounds. He has passion for his country, as long as he has someone to help him organise the training etc he will be ok. He doesn't need to immerse himself as fully as he would at club management, just be a motivator. In a strange way I kinda see it like Singletary at the 9ers.

USA - Guatemala right now. I haven't been following the national team for a while but I would expect the U.S. to win or at the very least tie. Anyone else watching?

Yeah, I just read he hasn't gotten **** for time in Spain. I always thought it wasn't the greatest idea unless he got that loan to Recreativo. Anyway, nice run by Adu just now. He needs to do something about his situation because bouncing around from mid-major league to mid-major league with semi-continentally relevant teams and limited playing time just isn't cutting it. He needs to play.
