World Cup 2006
Who do you think will win this summer's World Cup?
My bet is on Brazil.

England is stacked. I have them beating Brazil or Argentina when all is said and done (I can't remember which one, and don't feel like looking it up). Wayne Rooney will steal the show.

How France even makes the list is beyond my comprehension... but my original pick was Germany and I'm sticking with it.

We germans are but only if England beats Brazil in the semis.
I have it split into the elite teams, the teams with realistic shots, darkhorses and then hopeless teams
My Elite Teams are England, Brazil and Argentina
My teams with a realistic shot are Germany, the dutch, the czechs, Italy, Spain, france and Portugal.
My Darkhorses are Ghana, Ivory Coast, Croatie and Sweden.
the rest are hopeless.

I hope the Dutch finally take it.

now I can finally explain, just got home.
England, Brazil and Argentina are my favorites to win as they have the most cohessive group of elite talent. Brazil isn't the most cohessive but their individual class is amazing. They will have Ze Roberto and Emerson in holding positions, that is how offensively talented they are.
England is elite at ever stage, from Roonaldo to Gerrard to Lampard to Terry they are stacked. The lack of a true holder is not an issue in the 4-4-2 and RObinson is a vastly under-rated keeper.
Argentina is young and already amazingly adapted to their offense. With Requelme they have one of the best international 10s on earth who will be extatic to have Tevez, Saviola and Crespo in the front. On defense keeper is unspectacular but between Samuel, Milito, Heinze and Zanetti they will have no troubles in the back.
Germany is my personal pick to win, but this is largely due to homefield advantage and bias. The team will be near exessively young but this should be offset by tremendous veterans like Kahn, Ballack, Frings and Schneider. If the young backs Mertesacker and Metzelder can play to their potential this will be a very tough team as they play aggressively and are all very apt at scoring, Podolski and Schweinsteiger will make themselves buggillions in this tourny, as the 20 year old dou are incomprehensible talented and are consistent performers on the international level.
the dutch enter the tourny with the classic questions, will the defense be good enough to match the offense. Boulahrouz has had a good season at Hamburg but if he doesn't get enough help he will be exposed and Van der star left helpless. However the will score a ton with old horseface up front flanked by Robben and Van der Vaart.
the czechs are in a similar situation as Holland exept the defense is more questionable despite the keeping and offense being slightly more stabilized. Cech will be good in net and the Baros and Sverkos dou will flourish with Nedved, Rosicky and Jankulovski feeding them.
Italy is again one of the most talented teams but again will face questions of how they will work together. hopefully the youth is given the oppurtunity to shine even though this will be a largerly veteran driven team. the hopes are that Pirlo and De Rossi are able to flourish in the holder spot and let guys like Gilardino play up front with no worries. Also the health of Totti will determine whether the win are fail, without him I see a trophy as unlikely but with him it is quite possible.
Spain another young team that will live and die by the youth. From Torres to Reyes to Joaquin, Xabi Alonzo and Vincente the young players must prove themselves on the international stage.
france are a very intriguing team as their best player, and arguably the worlds best player, Thierry Henry, is traditionally a poor international performer. But this year they hope that other talent can step forward. This will be mainly evident on defense were Mexes and Abidal should wrestle away starting spots from the older players.
Portugal are classic underachievers like Spain and Italy but they too boast a young and vibrant roster as the golden generation has passed and players like Deco, Christiano Ronaldo and Simao, must take their place.
And now for the dark horses.
Ghana is my favorite dark horse as they are younger team with mentality reflective of their leader, the ferocious Mickael Essien, they play hard and are very physical and strong at getting the ball. Scoring on them will be impossible and they will beat teams up in the midfield and have the athleticism to burn teams on counters. Appiah and Muntari are two players in the midfield that will fit perfectly with Essien and this trio should lead this team to become an excruciating opponent. They are in the group from hell but atleast they will have the USA to beat on and if they can beat the Czechs or Italians that will be a tremendous confidence builder.
The Ivory Coast is perhaps the most talented african team but they are also very abled in the world spectrum. Drogba, Kalou and Kone give them the offensive firepower to hang with the big boys and a midfield with Toure and Zokora in charge will be difficult to penetrate.
Croatie is one of the tighter playing european nations. Although they also have tremendous offensive talent. Klasnic isn't a house hold name but the Bremen star will explode with Prso providing tremendous relief. The Kovac brothers will be in charge of organizing the defense while young wings like Babic and Srna will the oppurtunity to do damage along the flanks.
Sweden will live and die by how Ibrahimovich works with Kallstrom, if this two function well together this team can do anything, if they faulter Larsen, Ljungberg and Rosenberg are not enough to take this team deep.

I saw a commercial of Ronaldinho as a kid, and god that is one ugly fellow.
But anyway I got Brazil with Adriano, Ronaldinho, Robinho, Caca, and don't forget the Great Dida at goalie

first it's kaka, Dida isn't really great but he's good. The defense is questionable and I don't like the 4-2-2-2 scheme. Guys will be playing out of position and last time they played together Adriano and Kaka were really weak.

Us will be lucky to get a point. Brazil are favorites but I doubt there teamwork, especially after the Confed cup showing.
