If you've ever been hunting, which I know you haven't, you'd know that a majority of the times you go out, you don't get anything. It's not this 'go off to a 100 square yard island with one deer' fantasy like thing that you seem to make it out to be. So, during that waiting, which you will do a lot of, you notice random little things that escape the eye so frequently. It's kind of hard to explain, but really, don't talk about something you really have no understanding of.

And, as I see it, 1 deer could die relatively instantly by gun shot, or be hit by a car, slowly dieing on the side of the road, starvation, etc. People don't hunt deer because they're 'mean.' It's pretty much a necissity to control the population.

I don't buy any of this "you can't comment on it because you haven't done it".

Why? Obviously you can't form an informed opinion based on what you hear.

I know this is completely out of context and probably not even relevant but anyway - what about drug use within the community? are you saying everyone needs to take heroin to understand how bad it is?
Once again don't jump down my throat because this isn't even close to the same thing but im just saying its the same basic principle

I never said to understand what it feels like, but just to know what kind of a negative impact it can have on your life. terrible example i know but it was the first thing that came to mind when that guy said that. i just had a quick moment of what many people on these boards live through their entire lives, speaking without thinking

I guess you can't have an informed opinion on dog fighting, because you've never been involved in it. Or one on killing somebody, because you've never done it.

See if my brain still actually worked instead of me smoking and drinking it away i would of come up with that example, instead of my ever so successful heroin one

Hunting helps control the deer population. It's regulated by the DNR as to how many liscenses are issued and the limit on deer per person. With out hunting it would be over populated and many deer would die anyway because the environment can't support all of them. Most hunters eat what they get, and there's an organization that will take extra or unwanted meat and donate it to the homeless. Killing a deer is no worse than buying steak from the store.

I never said anything about that. I just said that just because you haven't done something, it doesn't mean you can't comment on it intelligently.

Yeah, you put it exactly how I was trying to put it. It just seems that things slow down for you and you get a greater appreciation of all of the little things involved in life. And Moses, he didn't say "you can't comment on it because you haven't done it", it was "It's kind of hard to explain, but really, don't talk about something you really have no understanding of." which is entirely different. Even if you don't hunt, you still can obtain an understanding of it, but you have to research it and essentially "discover" what makes it what it is. Much like with cocaine, of course not everyone with an understanding of it has done it, scientists have studied in order to obtain a further understanding. My problem and most likely Boston's problem is people who have never been hunting and have never tried to understand it through methods other than experience yet still think they have a full grasp of what it is. They don't. There's no way around it.

You could say the exact same about millions of things. You don't REALLY understand drug use, or dog fighting, or murdering somebody. You might know a little bit about them, like I know a little bit about hunting. Still doesn't mean we can't make intelligent comments on it. If you're going to say people that don't hunt don't understand hunting, then say that people who aren't murderers don't understand murder.

Again, I didn't say that people who don't hunt don't understand hunting. I stated that if you tried by other means you can come to an intelligent opinion on something like hunting. I agree with you on that, people can develop intelligent opinions without experiencing events.

I've never hunted game, just fowl. Ducks, dove, pheasant and goose. We always eat what we shoot or donate what we don't want. Ducks are the best. Pheasant is a little "gamey" but is really good when you wrap bacon around it.

I don't know about finding an animal that will "shoot back" at me. Although, they sometimes try and drop bombs on me and that is reason enough to hunt 'em.

How would trekking through the wilderness with no communication with the outside world not help one appreciate nature? You are killing an animal for consumption and participating in the circle of life....Spare me this " it's not necessary BS". How is killing your own food not more admirable than buying mass produced chemical filled crap at a store?

Come on man, the freaking circle of life.

Dang, I sound like a damned hippie. I just like to shoot guns and play with my huge **** while doing so.

Duck better than Pheasant? No way in hell. Pheasant es mejor que chicken, by far. I don't see how you call call pheasant gamey and not duck. Most ducks are gamey as hell. Go eat a spoon bill and tell me Pheasant is gamey.
