Trade exceptions are important if you or the other team are over the cap. It means that you can use a trade exception, instead of having to match salaries in a trade.

I wouldn't say that. I think Dirk is the most skilled. Dirk happens to be a bigger pansy than Pau though.

and you are mistaken my friend. The level of physicality in his game has definitely elevated. Its not saying much but it has lol
To be honest, I think you couldve replaced Pau with a # of big men, and have gotten the same result. He was a complimentary piece to Kobe. All Kobe needed was a big man who could get him 20 and 10 underneath, and that's what Pau was.

There's a lot of big men who would've fit the bill.

Who do you think is the best big man in the game?

I dont think any other big man in the game can play in our offense as well as Pau does. So no, you cant replace him with just anyone. There's not a lot of 7 footers that mirror his skill set.

I think Pau Gasol is best big man in the game.

You don't need to "fit" the triangle offense. They won 3 rings with Shaq, and Shaq didn't fit the triangle at all.

Pau isn't the best big bro, come on.

He doesn't have the skill that Pau has, but his defense, rebounding, and strength inside offensively more than makes up for it.

I agree with both of you... kind of. Not a lot of people could have done what Pau did this season.

But here's what I do believe to be fact: Pau Gasol did stunt the development of Andrew Bynum (that and injuries).

This season for the stretch of games that Pau was out Bynum averaged
20.3 ppg and 11.7 rpg.

That's because Bynum completely checks out of the game if he is not involved early offensively. That's a mental thing on him, although I fear that it's something he will never grow out of (a la Lamar). You can't really blame that on Pau.

Huh?

I'm saying, fitting the triangle offense doesn't make Pau the only viable candidate as a big man to compliment Kobe. The Lakers have won 3 titles with Shaq, who didn't fit the triangle offense at all. Fitting in the triangle offense is meaningless for Kobe's #2. He just needs a guy, any big man, who can get him 20 and 10 a night. Pau just happened to be the guy they got to fit that bill.

You couldve replaced Pau with a # of bigs in the league and they still wouldve won 2 rings. I'd personally choose many big men over Pau, I was never a big fan of his.

He's just happens to be the guy who is winning rings as Kobe's #2. So he gets more credit than he deserves.

A big man fits the ideal triangle offense if he can pass well and create scoring for himself. Shaq didn't/didn't need to pass well, since he was just so physically dominant.

In a pure triangle offense, the big hangs out at the perimeter, thus taking the defense's big out to the perimeter with him, clearing lanes to the hoop. He needs to have a jump shot, and pass well.

Shaq never fit that style, he was always inside the post clogging the middle. He was the anti-triangle.

My whole point in referring to that is the notion that Phil Jackson and the Lakers needed a big who fit the triangle. That's not true at all, all they needed was a big who gets 20 and 10 a night. They wouldve adjusted to his skill set, whoever he was.

Pau just happened to be the guy they got, and he happens to fit the triangle. That doesn't mean no one could do a better job than him as the Laker's big man.

hmm yeah, but it's that much harder when there's so few touches to go around. Kobe also exploded in that time frame too.

A contending team with Dwight Howard is better than a contending team with Pau Gasol, with talent at other positions equal.

Dwight produces plenty....

And he's 10X the defender and rebounder Pau is. He gives you similar offensive production, which infinitely better defense.

Imagine what Dwight could do with Kobe on the perimeter? He's clearly a better big than Pau is.
