Well when Oden's Knees and ankles heal and Roy's knee magically creates some cartilage... I am hearby announcing my Blazers fandom when they win the championship and Oden averages...
10 points, 15 rebounds, 4 blocks... in 23 minutes per games since he will most definitely foul out

Some ref had the balls to T-up Steve ************* Nash and Grant ************* Hill on the same play, leading to 4 Durant FTs

Oh yeah cuz we'd all choose the **** hole in Cleveland to play with just absolute stars like JJ Hickson and Antionne Jamison over South Beach and playing with D-Wade. What was LeBron thinking?

Now it might be. But the Yankees have 27 championships. The Heat have 1. Plus, I am just hating on Cleveland. Which I guess to use ur analogy is like Yankee fans talking **** about the Royals. But the Royals owner prolly wouldn't put out a horrific, awful, stupid, dumb letter. And the NBA does have a salary cap. Cuz I am still thinking we can't beat Boston.

Except the Heat actually assembled their star studded team with a salary cap where as the Yankees just do so by having superior resources and the freedom to sign as many people as they want.

Tons of sources point to all them planning this a few summers backs and they all took paycuts....which while im sure isn't against the rules(just like the Yankees)....it is against the "spirit"(for a lack of a better of a word) of the rule and is pushing its boundries to where they weren't meant to go(like the Yankees)

If the Knicks truly do get Melo and CP3 within the next 2 years the league is going to be absolute garbage especially with the Celtics, Spurs, Mavs, and Lakers aging away. I'm all for a contraction. Too many teams like the Twolves, Kings, Pacers, Wizards, Raptors, etc, who are constantly garbage, even teams like the Hawks and Jazz are perennial above average seeds but not true contenders.

I'm for contracting a few teams, 2-4 teams would probably do it. Of course the Raps shouldn't be one of those teams :D

How did they take paycuts if they were signed with maximum contracts?

Yea but I wouldn't consider that a pay cut if they didn't want to go that route. Sometimes a player wants to hit UFA to got to the team he wants to go to, and if LBJ ended up in NY, and Wade in Chicago, nobody would have considered them to take a pay cut to go to those teams.

Plus if I'm not mistaken with a S&T they would have an extra year tacked onto the contract right? And a FA contract is 1 year shorter. So it's not like their making less money the first 5 years or so, it would just be total figures, yearly their not taking any sort of pay cut.

Anyone see the end of the Clips/Hawks game?

Watching the video replay it looks as if thier was obvious contact, but enough contact to warrant the foul call with 0.6 seconds left? Im not so sure, what makes me even more puzzled is that they called a flagrant-1 on Griffin. I thought he got ball and man.

I mean...they got offered more money by other teams and decided to take less money to go to Miami. That is a pretty straight forward paycut.

...okay.

When you say a collection of players taking an actual pay cut to play together is against the "spirit" of the current salary rules, you're standing on very flimsy ground.

What, does the proper spirit demand to get the maximum value of money possible, even if it means you get shelved into a bare cupboard team with maybe a handful of people worth building around you?

Does the proper spirit dictate you should never try to join up with a friend or group of friends even though the method utilized is currently legal?

Does it matter that if such a loophole is closed- for the parity of the league- that reduces additional flexibility and innovation and ensures contracts will continue to skyrocket and that players essentially become auction items to be bid for? (May as well create an 'NBA Free Agent Auction Day' if that's the case.)

Don't get me wrong- LeBron and Bosh did take the easy way, and they did string out their respective franchises... but they were within their legal rights to do this, and this includes taking a paycut. 'Spirit' or not, you'd think such an action would've been a breath of fresh air in the world where worthless scum get 15-20 mil a year 'pretending' to be a team's Alpha Dog and every role player can make 10 mil a year just to be used sparingly.

Plus if I'm not mistaken with a S&T they would have an extra year tacked onto the contract right? And a FA contract is 1 year shorter. So it's not like their making less money the first 5 years or so, it would just be total figures, yearly their not taking any sort of pay cut.
Through a S&T they could've gotten an extra, 6th, year if they wanted, they also could've gotten higher annual increases, from 8% of the first year's salary up to 10.5% via S&T.

They took less than maximum money so the Heat could give Haslem more money (which was still a **** ton less than what other teams offered him). UD getting hurt freaking sucks. :(

I know it's a soft cap but to organize it so you can sign three big time players is still absurdly difficult. Not only that but the Heat were even fairly relevant in their year before signing them too.
