He's locked into Utah for 2 more years if he is indeed saying he wants to play in New York I hope the Jazz fans cuss him out every game for the next 2 years, not a great PR move when some people are accusing you of running out a HOF coach out of town.

Sacramento Kings moving to Anaheim?
I think a lot of people would flinch at the idea of three teams in the L.A. market, but there are more people in Orange County alone (many of whom are super rich) than in the entire Sacramento metropolitan area (or St. Louis, Vancouver, Kansas City, etc).

and jesus, is every big name player who has 3 years or less now just going to be rumored to go to the knicks?
I heard Derrick Williams, Perry and Terrance Jones, Kyrie, and Harrison Barnes ONLY want to play for the knicks and won't report anywhere else...

Maybe.
But reports and rumors suggest that Melo, Paul, and D-Will specifically wish to play in NY.
Probably because it's NY.

I wonder if they want to play in NY as much as LeBron did?
As long as the Knicks hold on to Bill Walker I think they have a chance at getting anyone(and everyone)

Probably more considering LeBron obviously never wanted to play in NY and at that time the Knicks were a complete joke.
Now they're decent. In a week they'll be good. And in two years, NY will be the Mecca once again.

LeBron was afraid to play in New York, he could have signed in New York with Bosh or Stat and been the man instead he decided to partner with Wade's team. Not saying it wasn't a smart move but he didn't have the nuts to play in New York and potentially take criticism when they lose.

With fans calling the Knicks close to the "Mecca" of the NBA makes them see more and more like the Leafs of the NBA haha. Haven't won a championship for 30 years and still think they are the center of their sports universe.

you're really, REALLY banking on a Deron/CP3-Melo-STAT big 3 with this, aren't you?
assuming STAT's knees hold out that long.
it really depends what the knicks give up for 'melo though. some of the rumors out there, they're giving up more to the team than the Nets are

Nothing is more irritating. Max Kellerman hosts the afternoon radio show on ESPN LA and bashes people constantly for calling NY the basketball mecca and compares it Schramm coining "America's Team" for the Cowboys. And he's a Knicks fan as well.

I would just like to say that if Melo is still a Nugget after tomorrow, the Nuggets are majorly ****** and I will have no sympathy for them.
Honestly, how the **** have they not made a deal yet? They will not get anything better than the 2 deals they have on the table right now, and if NJ realizes that he's not signing an extension there and pulls out of the deal (which will inevitably happen) the Knicks are bringing their price waaaaaaaaay down again and there is nothing the Nugs can do about it.

I think the origin of the "basketball mecca" for NY has more to do with street basketball. A lot of great HS and college players have started playing on blacktops in NY, and you can't deny the amount of talent on those courts.

It's pretty evident Melo wants that 65 million. The Nuggets could have enough confidence that at the end of the day money be the deciding factor

Right, but it's not the Mecca of the NBA, which some Knicks fans claim it to be.

this thing is clearly going down late tonight or tomorrow. they don't want this being the headline of the NBA tonight, they want it to be the all-star game.
also, the Nets wouldn't ever publicly pull out, they know it would lower the price for the knicks. denver prefers the nets offer, but if 'melo won't extend here, the nets are still going to have their name thrown around to keep the knicks' offer up.
plus, i wouldn't rule out 100% 'melo signing an extension in denver.

Of course I am. This isn't the NFL. You can't methodically change the culture of your team with a bunch of good draft picks (they don't have to be top 10) and great coaching. You can only build a team with stars. Which means you either need to get EXTREMELY lucky with a top draft pick (Knicks won't have) or trade for/sign great players.
And I'm fine with giving up everyone for Melo (and Billups) because:
a) Once Amare and STAT are here, a lot of players are going to want to play here also.
and
b) It's very easy to find players who can be successful in D'Antoni's system.
The deal for me makes Shawne Williams, Toney Douglas, and Bill Walker more important players and I honestly don't think they are THAT much worse than, for example, Gallo.
I'm sure we can find guys like Miami did to be complimentary players. And the best part is that if the plan works one of our Big 3 will be a point guard.

NY is the Mecca of Basketball not the NBA. I have never even heard the phrase Mecca of the NBA before.

Do people really think that the Knicks are the Mecca of the NBA? You always hear that MSG in the Mecca of basketball but I have never heard the Knicks being the mecca of the NBA.
And I agree with Metsox about the streetbasketball thing.

if there were to be any arena to be dubbed the mecca of the NBA, it would be the garden...in Boston

I said "in two years..."
People don't like to read.
New York is the basketball capital of the world though. It's indisputable. Not necessarily NBA basketball (especially now), but basketball in general.

The Thunder won the lotto...
The Blazers are a decent example but they'll still never win anything and Aldridge and Roy were both very high picks...
The best example is the Pistons title teams but I'd much rather focus on acquiring stars (which is the blueprint for EVERY SINGLE OTHER Champ aside from the Pistons) than hope to recreate the magic that Detroit team had...
