That kind of expenditure is a pretty good microcosm to explain why the players may very well start taking it in the rear at the negotiating table if this lockout continues. That or carpet-bomb the European Leagues and sink them with all their collective weight.

Wrong.

Now, will many players capitulate because they are totally incapable of saving money? Sure.

What the NBA needs is ******* revenue sharing instead of trying to pass off their costs onto their employees. I understand there are a lot of bad contracts in the NBA, but no player put a gun to an owner's head and forced them to offer a ridiculous contract.
That's why I've never understood salary caps/labor cost control in sports. The owners implement them to save themselves from their own stupid decision making and then immediately begin trying to subvert and manipulate the rules they implement. Makes no sense to me.

So you can have the Pittsburgh Pirates in the NBA? Leagues that have revenue sharing have irrelevant teams that just leach off of everyone else to make money.

So the NFL should get rid of revenue sharing then? Should they stop sharing the TV contract equally and start having teams sign regional deals? Should the NFL stop splitting gate receipts 60/40 between the home and away teams? Should they stop splitting the revenue for merchandising?
Here's the problem with a lack of revenue sharing that nobody seems to understand: when a large market teams pull in massive amounts of revenue (like the Lakers and Knicks) they raise the OPERATING COSTS of everyone else - mostly by raising the salary cap floor. They're essentially passing off cost while keeping all revenue.
The NBA has no revenue sharing, and they still have teams that slash payroll in order to turn a profit instead of paying to stay competitive. Just look at the Warriors, Bobcats, and Clippers. The Pirates modus operandi would likely stay the same whether there were revenue sharing in baseball or not. You're trying to find causation where there's just correlation. There are bad owners who slash payroll in every major sports league.

I could very easily see Deron playing ball overseas, that really wouldn't surprise me at all. I can't believe the NBA is gonna find a way to screw this up after the popularity they gained after this last season.

Having big name All-Stars like Deron Williams finding jobs overseas should light a fire under the NBA's ass that they need to end the lockout in timely fashion. I, for one, don't give a **** if everyone and their mother went to play in Europe, but the owners should. And that alone should give them a ton of leverage in negotiations, especially since it has come out that they aren't losing as much money as they claim to be losing.

Yes, DWill is in fact, a turkey.
Srsly though, he has a $5M agreement with a Turkish team that would allow him to immediately opt out once the NBA labor agreements were finalized. Good for him. Get that paper.

No good reason not to go play overseas right now. You get good money, fans who will love you and you get to see more of the world. Its better than just sitting at home until they work this stuff out.
